ARCHIVED So Am I Definitely Negative?
Bubba's Mom replied to kathleenp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My blood work came back in the normal range too. My Dx was done from an endoscope biopsy. I was told that is not unusual. Try the gluten-free diet..very strictly adhered to and see how you feel? -
ARCHIVED This Sounds Crazy I Know :(
Bubba's Mom replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My blood tests came back negative, but the GI specialist had ordered up the endoscope the same day she ordered the blood tests. If we had stopped looking after just a blood test I wouldn't be DXed. The scope showed severe damage and gave me my answers. If you feel better on a gluten-free diet you don't have to explain or answer to anyone about it! Do... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms
Bubba's Mom replied to JMacMuireadhaigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They can test for Celiac disease by drawing blood and running a panel. However, it isn't always 100% accurate. If the test results says "positive"..you have Celiac, but if it comes back negative you can still have Celiac or gluten intolerance. They can also do an endoscope test, where you would be sedated, but not "out". They spray a numbing spray... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac? Urgent!
Bubba's Mom replied to Robby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should ask your Dr to run a celiac panel. Your symptoms could be from gluten. Most Dr.s just don't think to test for it unless you have diarhea, unexplained weight loss, and anemaia. There are actually about 300 different symptoms. Good luck! I hope you get some answers. -
ARCHIVED Coeliac Disease Or Ibs?
Bubba's Mom replied to Ilovehorses's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sure sounds like Celiac or at least gluten intollerance? If your blood test comes back negative you could still have a gluten problem. It isn't always 100% accurate. It gets tricky with gluten reactions. Sometimes it can cause symptoms right away and sometimes can have a delayed effect. It's one of the things that makes it tricky to figure out... -

ARCHIVED Gluten And Casein Free Dumplings Stuffed With Italian Plums With Chocolate Syrup
Bubba's Mom replied to Simona19's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
These look really yummy! I wonder if I could put sliced apple, cinnemon, and a bit of brown sugar iside? They'd be great with caramel sauce and would be a great substitute for my hubby's favorite apple dumplings. -
ARCHIVED Frusterated With Doctors Could This Be Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to Smokeybear's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One of the reasons I think it's hard to get a diagnoses is that there are SO many symptoms we can get from gluten if we're sensitive to it? Sometimes the answer isn't gluten, but it sure can't hurt to find out? If you've been eating it all along ask your Dr. for a celiac blood test. A LOT of Drs. only think of celiac if you have diarhea, unexplained weight... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Loving It.
Bubba's Mom replied to CRashster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope that keeping gluten out of your diet is the answer for you! You've suffered symptoms for quite a long time. It must be wonderful to finally be getting some relief? Get a new toothbrush and only use pans that don't have a scratched non-stick coating. Get new wooden spoons for stirring things if you use them when cooking. Gluten is hidden in a... -
I'm getting a lot of bruises too. A lot of them are pretty small and not awful looking. My Dr said I would get them easily until my villi heal. It has to do with how you're absorbing vitamins and nutrients. I recommend a daily vitamin to everyone, not just those with Celiacs. It sort of fills in where anything is lacking in one's diet.

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Won The "waiting Game"? N How?
Bubba's Mom replied to JH85's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty new to the gluten-free diet. I was just Dxed 7 weeks ago. If I get glutened by something one of my reactions is dizziness and bumping into walls. I don't even try to go up or down the stairs without holding the hand rail, so I know your frustration. I hope the Dr.s can come up with some answers for you. Sometimes the blood tests are negative... -

I'm afraid I don't know what your mill looks like. Are you able to take it apart enough to put it in a dish washer? OR flush it with lots of water?

ARCHIVED Celiac Cost Me Everything
Bubba's Mom replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like your new companion is the perfect fit? You both will help each other. I've read that a lot of Celiacs are attracted to each other, even before knowing they are Celiacs. Maybe that's one of the things that brought you two together? Shortly after we lost our beloved Basset Hound my husband and I went to a shopping mall. They had... -
ARCHIVED Condensed Soups
Bubba's Mom replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't tried the brand you mentioned, but had the Progresso gluten free cream of mushroom soup(in the regular soup aisle). It was different from the Campbell's I used to use, but it was OK. IMO it needed a bit of tinkering with? -
ARCHIVED Just Need Some Support
Bubba's Mom replied to catie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to add..be sure you eat something before taking the vitamins and suppliments. B vitamins can really upset your tummy if taken on an empty stomach. Best wishes to you. -
Sometimes writing the person/persons you treated poorly a little note telling them that you're sorry and why you behaved badly works wonders too? "I'm sorry" helps the other person know that you acknowledge your actions and tell them you would like to start over on a different note if they would like to. It couldn't hurt..and may help you forgive yourself...

ARCHIVED Confused About Borderline Test Result
Bubba's Mom replied to samuella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think IBS is more of a symptom of unknown cause rather than a disease? It could be an intollerance to another food or additive? MSG causes me those crazy IBS symptoms. It's possible you are still getting a bit of gluten somewhere? Did you replace your toaster, any scratched cookware, colander, tooth brush, wipe down the keys on your phone and keyboard... -

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Bubba's Mom replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think I'd be good with anything that's a vehicle for peanut butter? Maybe have fresh fruits and veggies that could be eaten raw, bottled water, canned tuna, baked beans, or sardines in case the power goes out? Oh..and pack a little overnight bag with undies, tooth brush, socks, meds, make-up..whatever in case you have to leave? I hope the storm... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Medications
Bubba's Mom replied to josh052980's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm taking a generic for Claritin (Meijer brand) and generic Benedryl (Kroger brand). I called the company on both of those because I was taking them daily. They're fine. I generally take the generics because of the cost. I know it gets old hearing this..but you may have to check whatever brand you buy to ensure it's safe? It's ragweed season here... -
ARCHIVED Mayo Clinic -- Symptoms
Bubba's Mom replied to timothymichael's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm glad you're getting some answers Tim. That yeast can be pretty pesky! Did your Dr. suggest taking pro-biotics? It's the healthy bacteria that should be in your digestive tract. If you've taken antibiotics in the past, it may have killed the good guys off? Replenishing them fills the area that the yeast took over and helps keep things in check. -
ARCHIVED Feeling So Discouraged
Bubba's Mom replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I forgot to add..taking digestive enzymes can help digest things that are a bit difficult on your system right now. You might want to give those a try? -
ARCHIVED Feeling So Discouraged
Bubba's Mom replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It gets dicouraging doesn't it? The Dr.s say "don't eat gluten" and leave you to deal with it. I'm about 7 weeks gluten-free myself. I've gotten reactions several times recently and it makes you retrace everything you've done and eaten. I know once gluten is out of your system small amounts can send your immune system into full attack mode. Your problems...
