  1. I suggest you get a juicer and start juicing veggies. Living a gluten-free lifestyle is going to be tough without vegetables, not to mention potentially nutritionally deficient. Perhaps you'll start developing a taste for them. If you like French fries make your own at home - or roast some potatoes.
  2. Interesting. While I won't argue that a steady supply of iga antibodies would probably be a good thing for a biopsy, the authors seem to be missing the point that iga must still be present to cause the rash. Iga evidently dissipates quickly for some, slowly for others.... If you still have a rash I'd guess there's plenty of iga. I wonder if DH dx in...
  3. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. My son loves Subway, and I watched last time, imagining they were making ME a sandwich. HECK NO!!! Gluteny hands in the meat, veggies....aaaaaacccckkkk!!!! Unless the whole sandwich comes pre-packed (and it doesn't) there's NO WAY. There's so much cc in that joint I get nervous just giving them my money (and...
  4. Well, if it's DH antihistimines won't do a thing. If it's an allergic reaction, antihistimines probably will. If you aren't at ovulation a few days of antihistimines probably won't matter (especially if you counter it with Robitissin). Someone posted a list of gluten-free medications by brand earlier today, don't remember which thread.... Something about...
  5. If it's typical DH they will pop, then refill (or new ones form, I'm not sure...mine are small and in patches that run together). I am guilty of rubbing them til they pop, because I can't stand the weeping (The sores, not me...although DH does make me want to cry) under my arms. Mine pop for 3 days or so then dry up and scab over...which is when moisturizers...
  6. I'd really like to see those links. Could you post them?
  7. Google "thyca" for low iodine diet guidelines. They have a cookbook, etc. free and online.
  8. I use safflower oil but you'll probably get a zillion different answers to this. Olive oil has a strong flavor...safflower doesn't.
  9. Are the fruity pebbles gluten-free? That's a lot of processed food....where are the veggies?
  10. I agree re: the FDA. And there's a world of difference between my son's current school lunch and his previous school district's lunch. I just think there's a place for everything, in moderation.... Except for gluten in my body, apparently.
  11. Both at health food stores or online.
  12. That's a loaded question. I think particular lifestyles will not lend themselveS easily to a gluten-free diet - traveling for work (constant restaurant meals) is an example. If you are used to eating a high gluten, processed food diet, the transition may be more difficult. If you have other food issues, that can increase the difficulty.., So technically...
  13. You know, in spite of my issues I'm not a wheat hater. Everything in moderation, as long as it isnt something you shouldn't do, period (like gluten for a Celiac). Hey, I eat milk products - milk is supposedly worse (as far as number of people with issues) than gluten.... So I can't throw stones. I'd rather people eat whole wheat than processed wheat...
  14. I use JR Ligget's shampoo bar and Magik Botanicals oil free (salicylate/gluten free) shampoo. I use Pantene to get the deposits off when I apply henna.
  15. Well, from what I've seen from school food "potatoes" are probably nasty hash brown sticks - which barely resemble potatoes. Have you seen Tge ingredients list on those?? Most are full of nasty preservatives, fillers, etc. No big loss there. However, I'm sure the whole grains are mostly wheat. Maybe some brown rice.
  16. Y'all are gonna love this one. I use brown rice flour as a facial skin exfoliant. Seriously. Works great! I know I could cook with it, too....but use KAF for most cooking.
  17. Anything that cuts off air to the rash tends to help, I've found. If you want to find out if it's DH go on a low iodine diet, in addition to the gluten-free diet. Resolution under those circumstances is a pretty strong indicator.
  18. I don't know what normal is anymore. If it's DH going on a low iodine should short circuit the rash - google "thyca". It should be safe for pregnancy, but ask your practitioner. You should see the rash improve quickly if it is DH if you decrease iodine. You can add back iodine slowly if there are concerns because of pregnancy. It is not a long term solution...
  19. Nope. It is BAD today. I woke up hungry and only had time for a bite of granola and tea. Came back and ate more and oj and felt sick. Fell asleep. Woke up and ate leftover Bok choy/broccoli - not much better. Ate the salmon/cream cheese/cracker ...a little better but still dizzy and gross. Ate a few grapes - trying to find glucose to see if it helps...
  20. Okay, I don't know what it but it happens. In the beginning of gluten-free, I'd feel nauseous after eating something sugary/fatty like cake. Now I feel sick if I eat something too sugary - like a breakfast of gluten-free granola (seeds, nuts, dry fruit, honey sweetened corn puffs) on a too empty stomach. Resolves when I eat a heavy protein or fat (like...
  21. I think there was a post about Kettle chips a few days ago with recent info. Anyway, all the bags I see say gluten-free and I haven't had a problem.
  22. Yes. I cut out everything for 2 weeks. The sores healed. I started adding back a little dairy - butter, milk in coffee..... I'd hit too much of something or a bit of gluten and the itching would start...a little spot would raise up.... Carageenan was (still is) bad. I cook with whole eggs but don't eat a whole egg (use egg whites). Haven't added back...
  23. Well, if the rash is DH you can try a low iodine diet for a while and see if it diffuses the rash. DH needs iodine to erupt, so if you get the level low it will short circuit the reaction. Google "thyca" for guidelines on a low iodone diet. If it isn't DH, you may have another food intolerance like milk, soy, eggs...try an elimination diet and keep a food...
  24. I don't have Cushings but I have had some adrenal problems - first noticed when they gave me corticosteroids. I couldn't regulate blood sugar, etc. I keep wondering if those steroids sent me over the edge to another problem - like diabetes (blood sugar thing). Yes, it's tough when all these problems come down. And it makes me more than a little angry...
  25. I've eaten quite a few flavors. No problems. Love them.
