  1. Ooh. Around me I'm more likely to get "cottoned"...but I get your point. That truly sucks.
  2. I can drink wine...though after my wine tasting experience last fall I have a hard time drinking more than one glass of red. Wine can give me a headache, other times I'm fine. But alcohol in general can make me headachey -especially if its allergy season. Essential oil scents don't make me sick, and some perfumes are fine...but a "store full" bugs me...
  3. I stopped trying to Id DH visually, so in really if no help. Of you have a reaction to gluten or iodine (meaning it makes your rash worse) its a good hint it's DH. I'm sure some here will say it looks like DH, others will say no. DH usually has a 2 week (or so) life, and tends to itch more at particular times of day (later into evening). The sores...
  4. I understand the sensation you are describing. Happens to me in department stores or if I walk by one of those perfumey stores like Bath &Body or VS. I can get an immediate, growing crushing headache very quickly. Fresh cool air, and avoiding "migraine" triggers is all I can do. A shower helps. Washing my face in the bathroom helps. Washing my sinuses...
  5. I agree that's an erroneous statement but I linked to that to show alternative medical treatments. And btw that's not the only stupid thing I've seen written about DH. The stupidity is incredulous and plentiful.
  6. Some people find antihistimines suppress autoimmune responses-not just alletgy responses. It does that for me. Not to mention steroids suppress AI. I suggest you get tested for Sjogren's.

  8. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link The two links above are for mail-order meals that claim to be gluten-free. I have not screened either one, but it may be an option for you - order them for hotel delivery? There are some great threads on here about travel and food. Personally, I stopped thinking if food as something I find in...
  9. My eyes have improved greatly going gluten-free. I suffer from dry eyes (and live in the desert). They are MUCH better now, and my allergies are better. I still have seasonal allergies, and notice my eyes are one of the first symptoms. Both do continuously improve. I've never had an ophthalmologist suggest corneal erosion, but they have given me drops...
  10. Dh and celiac aren't new. But they both do seem to be happening more, now. I am only gluten-free. I was temporarily LI. I may reduce iodine if I have a DH flare (for me, they happen from immune triggers more than gluten). DH has traditionally been said to happen in adults. That said, I've seen quite a few posts here regarding children with DH or a rash...
  11. My thyroid meds have never been an iodine issue for me. If you haven't read the thyca.org info on high iodine foods, I suggest you do so. Just removing iodized salt is not a low iodine diet. Yes, a low iodine diet can be restrictive; however, I felt after 3 years of that Damn Rash, it was a fair trade. I only had to do "total LI" for two weeks - after...
  12. You might enjoy visiting Elana's Pantry. She has MS and writes cookbooks; however, she uses almond and coconut flour. I suggest it because she has ms and celiac...and her site has other tidbits about autoimmune diets. Www.elanaspantry.com
  13. You can find Coco Lopez in most liquor departments or at a liquor store. And it IS sweet.
  14. I find my pan needs to be just a bit HOTTER for gluten-free pancakes. Took me a while to figure it out. It makes them rise better and gives that crispy crust.
  15. If you've been on/off steroids during celiac testing that could well explain why you always test negative. Steroids suppress the autoimmune disease, and are used to suppress autoimmune reactions. Steroids are a contradiction to accurate Celiac testing. Or, you could be a lucky one that always tests negative, regardless. I was gluten-free almost 2 months...
  16. Whatever you do, make a ton of it. Freeze it and bring it out when you want it. I have a recipe (Italian mil) but it is all technique, not recipe. My advice is to peruse recipe sites and find one that involves cooking the sauce for hours, with big chunks of meat and sausage added in for flavor. That will be a good recipe. Marinara is much faster - chop...
  17. Yeah, I get why you're trying it. I didn't use dapsone because they didn't know what my rash was...but they did manage to put me on four steroids and quite frankly I'm still having effects from those. So, potato/potatoe. I think people get relief generally within the first week, if dapsone is going to work. That said, the rash you have must heal -...
  18. I *think* Cost Plus has a gluten-free mix (or one that I determined to be gluten-free). It's been a while. Bloody Mary's are not my thing...yuck.
  19. Shortcut is clamato and v8, with Worcestershire, garlic, horseradish, salt pepper, Tabasco, olive or pepper juice, lemon or lime... Ok, wasn't that short. Personally I hate them but hubs drinks them.
  20. I don't agree with what you are calling a gluten reaction. If your concern is with damage to the villi, then just say "damage to the villi". I think what you are trying to do is simplify what a gluten "reaction" is. A gluten reaction, or rather exposure, isn't simple. We all react in different ways and to different levels. And on top if that, our individual...
  21. You get 3 cupcakes, he gets 2. Really, you've got to talk with him and tell him how you feel. Lots of good suggestions above. But I'll be honest with you....you've just got to learn to accept certain things and deal with it. It's part of dealing with the disease. If my son wasn't my son I probably would have stabbed him with an airport spork when...
  22. I wonder if diatomaceous earth would help get rid of them...if you could dust the area up there??? Hard when its up high, I know - you'll probably get a face full if it. We get crickets. I hate crickets. Noisy freaking crickets through every crevice.
  23. I always pass on the gluten-free pasta after getting glutened at an Asian Fusion place. I swear they either gave me the wrong noodles or boiled them in gluteny water. Like you, I ordered gluten-free and double checked. And yet - I was hit. Bad. Should have known it when I got to the bottom of it and saw the shrimp (I had requested no shrimp since I was low...
  24. Oooh noooo!!! Probiotics? Digestive enzymes? Vodka???
