ARCHIVED Girlfriend Making Me Sick And Dont Know Why
pricklypear1971 replied to deals88's topic in Super Sensitive People
Origins (same company as Clinique) labels their products with source and in "plain English". -
ARCHIVED Cupcake Wrapper Problems
pricklypear1971 replied to Mizzo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I notice when I bake with coconut oil/flour I have almost no stick. With drier recipes (something that forms a crust) I will have stick. I think it's the fat ratio... -
Yeah. I don't suggest a day of wine tasting at wineries. Been there, done that. Painted a white car purple if ya know what I mean.

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Feel Like They Were Trained To Ignore Their Body?
pricklypear1971 replied to megsybeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes. Ignore ignore. I used to have a high pain threshold. However, after three years of DH, and the adrenal decimating steroids to get rid of it, I find I have a very LOW pain threshold now. I read something about how chronic pain sufferers can actually become more sensitive to pain. I think I fall in that category now. I'm sure some of it is a mental... -
ARCHIVED Sick From Trader Joe's Semisweet Chocolate Chips :-(
pricklypear1971 replied to vln1760's topic in Super Sensitive People
I actually thought it was stupid, but did it anyway. I found I prefer the taste of Ghiradelli chips, though. I try to balance my paranoia with common sense, in an effort not to live in a bubble. Figured having an alternative chocolate chip source was a good idea with holidays coming. -
ARCHIVED Sick From Trader Joe's Semisweet Chocolate Chips :-(
pricklypear1971 replied to vln1760's topic in Super Sensitive People
Btw, I tried the TJ's chips this month and no reaction. I still won't touch the chocolate covered nuts products, again, though. -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone Else Not Really Like Wheat?
pricklypear1971 replied to megsybeth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didn't have an aversion to bread, per se - though I was very picky about it. If it wasn't excellent, I didn't bother. I did have an aversion to whole grains - barley, whole wheat breads, grainy breads...until I went to a more whole foods diet (you know, because it was HEALTHIER FOR ME...rolling my eyes). I had to force myself to eat whole grains. ... -
I'ce packs. I usd to fall asleep with them packed under my arms. Put more in the freezer in case you wake up.

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Hashimoto's Disease
pricklypear1971 replied to Newbee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Another idea to find a good doc is to contact your closest compounding pharmacy and ask for a thyroid doc reco. Talk to the pharmacist, unless the person who answers the phone sounds unusually informed. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Hashimoto's Disease
pricklypear1971 replied to Newbee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been on synthetic t3/t4 compounded, Armour (before reformulation), Nature-Throid, compounded natural thyroid, and back to Nature-Throid. I'm trying it again because I felt very good on it but had to switch because of a shortage of product a few years ago (big mess). -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Hashimoto's Disease
pricklypear1971 replied to Newbee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, at first my doc wanted to see me monthly (with labs each time). I personally thought that was a bit much (I did arrange to get my lab sheets at each visit so labs could be drawn prior to the following visit). She upped it every month til she started seeing something she liked (not sure what that was). It took at least 6 months for my tsh to move... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Hashimoto's Disease
pricklypear1971 replied to Newbee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It really doesn't matter if its an endo, GP, or nd as long as s/he treats you to make you feel better rather than to normalize tsh. Start here for docs in your area. Open Original Shared Link Keep googling and following links and ask around. Start reading about Hashis, and keep copies of all your labs and dosages and meds. Make notes and keep track... -
Yeah, I had unexplained reflux for a few years (actually more but it was off/on) that all meds did not fix. Then it went away.... I did not have glutening symptoms at first, going gluten-free. But guess what I get now????? Yep. Reflux. Reflux explained. Sigh. I don't take meds, I'm just careful with my diet after I get hit - lots of water to...

ARCHIVED Anecdotal But Interesting: Doctor Reviewed My Rash
pricklypear1971 posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm just tossing this out there, you DH'ers will understand why. Took my son to a Pediatric GI yesterday. He reviewed his labs (showing two sets of negative celiac blood tests) and we discussed our concerns about son's gi troubles. I told him we were having him tested because of a lifetime of issues, and I was recently dx'ed Celiac. He listened and... -
ARCHIVED Can Not Lose! Just A Little Venting Among Friends...
pricklypear1971 replied to beachbirdie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, my rt3 ratio and level is high but my ND has been very disappointing regarding this. She calls it Wilson's Syndrome but keeps harping on my adrenals. I am of the philosophy (after reading about this stuff for years, and living through it) that the thyroid and adrenals work together (she agrees). Where we differ is that one can't improve one (in this... -
ARCHIVED Ped Gi Appt. In Oct.
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So, X-ray shows kid is very constipated. Well, at least I can honestly (and without sarcasm), tell him he's full of crap. -
ARCHIVED Ped Gi Appt. In Oct.
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, just left peds office. He wants to do an abdominal X-ray, a new celiac panel from a different lab (to see if anything differs), and schedule on endoscopy. He wants to see what's going on...he thinks its functional constipation but won't make a dx until we go through all of it. He doesn't think it CAN'T be celiac, doesn't think we're crazy, and is... -
ARCHIVED Can Not Lose! Just A Little Venting Among Friends...
pricklypear1971 replied to beachbirdie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do they run reverse t3 on you? I had mine run, after reading about t3 resistance. Mine is high, ratio is high. I fit a lot of the symptoms, especially the difficulty losing weight. -

Thyroid? It can make you sit on weight when you're doing everything right. Tsh isn't enough testing to see if its off. And it took me at least a month of working out before I saw weight change. Then it would stagnate, then drop suddenly. Then i got that stomach bug and dropped 4-5 lbs. I've dropped another 1-2? My trainer said I maintained the weight loss... -
I can say that in the beginning, my DH acted like hives when it disappeared. It did that "spontaneously remit" thing one time. It wasn't a full- blown rash (compared to what it did later) and I woke up one day and it was almost gone (after hanging around for 3 months). It wasn't gone in an hour but it was down to just pink skin in 24. I'm not posting...

ARCHIVED Anyone With Endometriosis?
pricklypear1971 replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I probably have it. I was set for a lap and then found out I was pregnant (after a year of trying). I am very, very fortunate that pregnancy "fixed" most of my symptoms - constant pain. I still have very heavy periods, clotting, and sometimes horrendous pain during my period. What helps me is exercise. A 3-4x a week routine of working out helps... -
ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
pricklypear1971 replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can buy vital wheat gluten at a health food or grocery store. You can buy yeast at any grocery store (of course, the strains will differ by manufacturer). I do not suggest you test either without sitting your butt in front of an ER when you do it, though. And write "allergic to wheat gluten and ate it" in sharpie on your forehead. I'm not joking... -
ARCHIVED Look At My Pics Please
pricklypear1971 replied to Cmlgl's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yours looks a lot like mine. The arm pits and waist and tail bone are the worst, aren't they? I use Vanicream and ice packs on mine. Vanicream doesn't irritate and ice packs stop the itching. Good luck with your biopsy. Stay off the steroids of you can til after biopsy. Be prepared, if you're on them and go off it will flare. -
ARCHIVED Well... I Feel Like Crud...
pricklypear1971 replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to get off all supplaments including probiotics and enzymes. Took two weeks total to get "normal" and a week to regain a normal appetite and stop freaking every time I felt any activity in my gi tract. I lived on crackers, potatoes, rice, mild and small quantities of meat and veggies. All cooked. Eggs (one of my go-to's) are finally palatable. Peanut... -
ARCHIVED Please Help, Major Stomach Issues
pricklypear1971 replied to MATT1983's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are taking supplaments while you're sick, you may want to stop til you feel better. They can be very harsh in your stomach and contribute to the misery. Once the sickness passes, ease back into them.
