  1. Are Enzymedica products available there? They are free of gluten, soy, dairy.
  2. This explains false neg/pos on Ttg. Open Original Shared Link The University of Chicago Celiac Center has excellent info on testing and stats. Open Original Shared Link
  3. Karen, what climate do you live in? Do you use it in the summer? I ask because we are particularly challenged in the desert when trying to keep stuff cold in a lunch bag. I'm always looking for something that works but we usually get 4 hours, max, from any soft-sided bag ( with ice packs inside) in an a/c space ( kid taking it to school and leaving it...
  4. Did you show the new pediatric guidelines to the doctor and discuss them? If so, and the biopsy is negative, put her on the diet and keep a diary. Talk to the doctor about what happpens. Ask for a dx based on results of the gluten-free trial (assuming there's a good result). You should also ask for screening for other ai diseases if the TTG doesn't...
  5. That's the testing trap - a doctor that offers to prove you aren't Celiac by running tests in a manner they shouldn't be run (on a gluten-free diet, only run one test) then pronouncing you don't have Celiac-when in reality all they did was run a test under the wrong or incomplete conditions. So after they've "proved" you aren't Celiac (with the test they...
  6. Any pcp can order the Celiac panel (test list you have from UC). There are even online lab services you can order them through - they send you the order and you take it to a lab like LabCorp. As far as genetic test, ensure it checks for alpha and beta subunits ofctge genes. LabCorp does this. If hubs is really fighting this, just worry about YOU. ...
  7. Very good idea. I bet roasted veggies would work if you're willing to eat it with a fork, but I guess that would be more lasagna-like?
  8. You are completely missing the part where the doctor is willing to test her now, without a challenge (and antibodies) so she can say "no antibodies" and refuses to test her now for vitamin deficiencies without positive Celiac tests. So, the doctor is talking out of both ends of her, uhm, mouth. I'm trying to be polite. Doctor is not even considering...
  9. I bought all of this today, at a "regular" grocery store. As far as meats - fresh meats are usually fine with a few caveats... 1) I don't buy pork with injected solutions. The solutions are usually gluten-free but I don't want the sodium or additives so I buy pork at natural markets where it isn't injected. Packaging will clearly state if it...
  10. Digestive enzymes, probiotics, water. It sucks when you get into something. I think mOst of us have experienced a wide range of grossness and gurgling and gas. Just do what feels right. I learned not to go too long without food, though, or I get other symptoms that are just as bad. Try a clear broth - boil a chicken or beef bones and freeze the...
  11. WHOA!! Please don't assume you can't eat any (gluten-free) grains. Yes, some people have a problem with corn, some with other grains - rice, sorghum.... But don't assume YOU do. And some of us are better off grain free...just don't assume that's YOU. And not all grain proteins are the type of gluten that Celiacs react to. Please be careful...
  12. I understand about the ice cream. I was addicted to Talenti Gelato. Still am if I let myself buy it. It's like crack. Yes, you need your levels checked. Especially since you're already so low on d. Did they check your thyroid?
  13. It's funny you say that...I've never once eaten oats and not been starving within 30 minutes. Now, I don't eat oats.... And gluten-free oats are one of those things a newly gluten-free person needs to ease into. Some people have an intolerance and on top of that it's a straight shot of grain -which some people have a problem with processing. I would...
  14. Okay, I'm searching for labs...haven't found one but I did find this Open Original Shared Link ZRT in the US will do hormone testing internationally. Open Original Shared Link
  15. Well. Hmm. You can't be accurately tested but she'll test you anyway and use it as an excuse to blow you off. Oookaay. Positive note: you don't need her permission to be gluten-free. Is there another way to get vitamin testing in your country? An independent lab? Here some online companies will give you the lab request, you go to the lab for the...
  16. He gets so offended if I point it out. Now you know why it's a gluten-free house.
  17. NSAIDS aggravate DH in some people. That's why we would stay stay away from them...not the gluten-free part (well, you'd want gluten-free NSAIDS). If you are looking for food ideas there are tons of web sites/bloggers out there. I suggest joining Pinterest for some good gluten-free inspiration. Lots of pins there for recipes and ideas.
  18. I've been known to use a ball of paper towels to wash something. I suggest having your own fresh, clean supply of dish rags (will be cheaper) that you change out every time you go in the kitchen. I buy them in bulk at Target or Kmart. You could even buy them second hand since you can wash them with soap. I have a big pile by the end of the week....
  19. It's not selfish, but it is rather unrealistic. Not because people won't share...but because there are so many stories here, so varied, and I'm not kidding when I say we forget half of it. I swear some days I thought I'd sprout feathers.
  20. It is recommended you eat a good dose of gluten for 2-3 months prior to testing. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  21. If her blood work and endoscopy are done why wait? Sure, they'll say "wait and see", but really... what other test is going gluten-free going to affect? And IMO, yes, if her test is negative (and get copies of all the lab tests and reports) I'd try gluten-free. I'm sure you've read stories here about how damage is missed, etc. With a family history...
  22. Have either of you been tested for vitamin deficiencies? If you are deficient in something (and you probably are) you need to bring those levels up. It can make a HUGE difference. B's, D's, iron/ferritin, cal/mag, k, e.... get them tested. Are you using a probiotic and digestive enzyme? If no, do it. I use Enzymedica. Screen for gluten. Are you...
  23. Hmm. I have not seen these tests (as they are worded) before. I am not familiar with Cyrex. I suggest pm'ing a member here, Skylark, to see if she can help you.
  24. It was actually pretty easy - only one store. But I remember my first shopping trip. Ok, my first dozen...and it took me forever to get down an aisle. I think I just skipped aisles. Funny, I was looking at what I bought and yes, it's gluten-free and processed but aside from the soups each one has just a few ingredients. Not that it makes it better,...
