ARCHIVED May Contain Trace Amounts Of Wheat
pricklypear1971 replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think Mars has a statement explaining their meaning of "may contain" and "processed". The link is in the peanut butter m&m's thread. It's enlightening. -

I don't know. I do know there is something called mindful eating, and people use it to deal with emotional aspects of food. Open Original Shared Link Give it a read? -
ARCHIVED Just When I Thought I Was Doing Good
pricklypear1971 replied to AVR1962's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I'm definitely thinking of you. I'm very saddened to hear this is where you are at right now. I will pipe up and say if you are doing better you should keep doing what you're doing - because better is better. I will be thinking of you and hoping for the best. -

It's kind of like labels for dummies?? They tell you the ingredients and source, if I remember. -
ARCHIVED Oats. Don't Think It's Good News.
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It really isn't a big deal to me, other than something to avoid. I don't like oatmeal, either. I can live without oats easily. Like you said, it's just another thing to avoid, which is a PITA. -
ARCHIVED E-Mailed Neutrogena And Smashbox Recently...
pricklypear1971 replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have the box for the moisturizer anymore, but check the website. The box has ingredients in plain language on it. -
ARCHIVED E-Mailed Neutrogena And Smashbox Recently...
pricklypear1971 replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Neutrogena Naturals skin care is gluten-free. I read that e.l.f. Is gluten-free ingredients but the equipment may be cc'd. Supposedly available at Target. I use lots of mineral makeup so it's easier but I struggle with sourcing all of it online. I think Cetaphil states their gluten-free status online. -
ARCHIVED My Mango Dilemma
pricklypear1971 replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just buy a new one. I scrubbed mine with a toothbrush and Bon ami but the thought of someone else's gluten skeeves me out. I found a gorgeous antique bundt pan at Goodwill and almost cried from not buying it. -
ARCHIVED Deeply Frustrating LGBT Issue
pricklypear1971 replied to tuxedocat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know, it may feel lonely but it doesn't have to be. Focus on YOU. Make new friends and yes - that full-time job of rebuilding your life. When that person comes along, well, it will fall into place. I know you're saying "easy for you" but NO. NOT. I am HORRIBLE at letting people into my life. Terrible. I lock it down so tight it's like a prison. Coming... -
ARCHIVED Oats. Don't Think It's Good News.
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep. Had it all, lots of times. Ove been eating a few all day and no worse reaction - but I took the antihistimine and that generally really helps. Even after a glutening. I'll try oats again in a month or so and see what happens. Last time I had a headache but that could have been anything at that point. -
ARCHIVED What Do I Need To Do?
pricklypear1971 replied to Jen2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She may also be suffering from "leaky gut" - meaning she's going to react to almost anything, unfortunately. You may try probiotics and digestive enzymes and see if it helps. Make sure tgey are dairy and gluten free. I use Enzymedica Digest Gold and megaflora probiotics. You may also look into a gut building diet like GAPS. -

ARCHIVED Things Are Changing
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, judging by the desperate run to the bathroom two seconds ago, the lactose free Breyers was NOT a success. I'll try the So Deliciious shake tomorrow with the gluten-free burger. Oh, and he DID try to eat milk and cereal this morning. -

ARCHIVED May Contain Trace Amounts Of Wheat
pricklypear1971 replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Any of the above, from what I can tell. It probably means its processed on shared equipment. They clean it, but stuff happens. Do what you're comfortable with. -
ARCHIVED Went To My First Family Get Together Since Dx
pricklypear1971 replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was sick all the time before starting thyroid supplaments. Then, I seemed to never get sick or if I did it was very mild in comparison. Last time I was sick (first flu since gluten-free) i was the last one to get it and it was worse than others , but I also didn't catch the previous 2 bugs everyone else got. That's more typical of how I was as a young adult... -
ARCHIVED Good Substitutes For Bulgur?
pricklypear1971 replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found a roasted brown rice couscous and everyone loves it. I think it was Lundberg. It wasn't "ricey" - it was very couscous-y. -

ARCHIVED Emu Oil- Work For Anyone Else?
pricklypear1971 replied to bubbleye's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have found moisturizing DH lesions, especially while healing, speeds healing and discomfort. And keeping skin happy and healthy seems to ease discomfort and reaction overall. The benefit to Emu oil may be that it's animal fat - thus probably low in salicylates and I assume additives (perfumes, etc. that sometimes irritates rashes). So, it would probably... -

Red freezing hands and feet? Open Original Shared Link I'm sorry I'm not going back to read your other posts - did they test you for autoimmune thyroid antibodies? Do you have a smart phone with a camera? When you go to the GI appt ask to read the labs and take photos of them. Trust me - it's worth making your mom mad and ticking off the doctor.... -

Salicylates, histamines, amines. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Linkinfo6/ Search around this site for info. Some people here have a lot of experience. She sounds like she has a problem with dairy, and gluten, but almonds are high in salicylates. Bananas are low sal but that may be an allergy - does she react to latex? They say that... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
pricklypear1971 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The easiest creature to train is a human. Said the cat.... My dog isn't too shabby either. My chickens trained my mom to feed them. Apparently they mastered the art of "looking hungry". She had a pet Banty rooster who thought she was his hen....that monster hated me and I would have gladly roasted him on the grill but the coyotes got him (thankfully... -
ARCHIVED I Suppose I Don't Have Celiac Disease
pricklypear1971 replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you should print this and hand it to all the fools who say that. Open Original Shared Link And I'd be really interested to know if that percentage is influenced by the number of Black Americans who have medical insurance. Hmm. I looked on the LabCorp site and don't see it - or don't think I see it. I wonder which labs offer it.
