ARCHIVED Restaurants Charging Extra
~**caselynn**~ replied to veruca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good point! I'm sorry to hear about that experience with Outback, I've had some great luck with that chain, here in Maine and also in Florida. I suppose it's with any restaurant, they can only be as good as their trainer. -
ARCHIVED What's For Dessert Tonight?
~**caselynn**~ replied to sora's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm pretty excited for tonight, my mom picked strawberries for us the other day, I unfortunately am stuck home with a knee Injury and couldn't pick with her. BUT she mentioned my favorite way to eat berries this am and I can't quit thinking of it! Very simple, berries, a little milk, and just a sprinkle of sugar...soooo yummy!!!! Can't wait!! -
ARCHIVED Is This Common?
~**caselynn**~ replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I was diagnosed my GI doc suggested I tell other family members about it so they could get tested if necessary. I have mentioned it a few times, but I figure it's ultimately their decision. Although, I don't refrain from bringing it up when I hear them complain of their gut issues! Haha no better time to have that discussion! -
There's a lady like that where I work as well, lol. We have talked many times about how it's not to be a diet fad, that just because it's gluten free doesnt mean it's healthy, theres junk food gluten free too! Haha she didn't listen to me, I tried to explain that even though I'm celiac I don't even eat a lot of the processed things, I eat rather cleanly....

ARCHIVED Growing Cross Contamination
~**caselynn**~ posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My Dad and I were out for a drive on the back roads recently, checking out all the potato fields. ( we live in Maine (: ) I noticed one in particular that had potato growing but I also noticed wheat popping through as well!? My father confirmed this, and said that wheat was probably the rotation crop from last year and there must have been some seed left... -
I have just the opposite, they all are very concerned, especially when we eat out. To the point where they will badger the waiter, leaving me saying" wait! That's my job!" Lol gotta love their enthusiasm. My best friend in particular did that exact scenario one day, to the point that I didn't even need to explain how to keep my meal seperate cooking wise...

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's Grilled Chicken
~**caselynn**~ replied to jststric's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I ate at a McD's on a road trip to NYC last year and ended up quite ill. My guess was cc, but it's a risk I took. I learned my lesson, never again! I heavily pack snacks while on road trips now lol that's a scenario I'm not willing to replay! I know some others have had better luck than I, but that's my story. -

ARCHIVED Adapting Recipes For Breadmaker?
~**caselynn**~ replied to fidgiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use a mix called Favorite Sandwich Bread, so good. I use my bread machine on the dough setting. It runs the cycle and then I put it in a pan and cook the old fashioned way. It's my favorite, I don't make it very often but when I do I fall in love with it all over again! -

ARCHIVED What Are You Growing This Year?
~**caselynn**~ replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My father and I usually grow a decent sized garden for the family to eat out of, but this year he decided we'd forgo the garden. So we just did some tomato, green pepper, and basil plants in pots. That father of mine is one smart cookie, we've had so much rain in the last 2 weeks that our garden plot, or where it used to be, is under water! I'm glad I listened... -

ARCHIVED You Find Out Who Your Friends Are...
~**caselynn**~ replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but you're right, you do find out who really cares. Now, as for this best friend, if you two have been best friends since kindergarten the. This warrants atleast an adult conversation. That's a long time to throw away! Perhaps you should send her an invite to your house where you two can talk it over, or choose neutral... -

Very interesting article, I'm not sure how I feel about it all but I'd love to read through a study once these theories are tested.
