  1. Good point! I'm sorry to hear about that experience with Outback, I've had some great luck with that chain, here in Maine and also in Florida. I suppose it's with any restaurant, they can only be as good as their trainer.
  2. I'm pretty excited for tonight, my mom picked strawberries for us the other day, I unfortunately am stuck home with a knee Injury and couldn't pick with her. BUT she mentioned my favorite way to eat berries this am and I can't quit thinking of it! Very simple, berries, a little milk, and just a sprinkle of sugar...soooo yummy!!!! Can't wait!!
  3. When I was diagnosed my GI doc suggested I tell other family members about it so they could get tested if necessary. I have mentioned it a few times, but I figure it's ultimately their decision. Although, I don't refrain from bringing it up when I hear them complain of their gut issues! Haha no better time to have that discussion!
  4. There's a lady like that where I work as well, lol. We have talked many times about how it's not to be a diet fad, that just because it's gluten free doesnt mean it's healthy, theres junk food gluten free too! Haha she didn't listen to me, I tried to explain that even though I'm celiac I don't even eat a lot of the processed things, I eat rather cleanly....
  5. My Dad and I were out for a drive on the back roads recently, checking out all the potato fields. ( we live in Maine (: ) I noticed one in particular that had potato growing but I also noticed wheat popping through as well!? My father confirmed this, and said that wheat was probably the rotation crop from last year and there must have been some seed left...
  6. I have just the opposite, they all are very concerned, especially when we eat out. To the point where they will badger the waiter, leaving me saying" wait! That's my job!" Lol gotta love their enthusiasm. My best friend in particular did that exact scenario one day, to the point that I didn't even need to explain how to keep my meal seperate cooking wise...
  7. I ate at a McD's on a road trip to NYC last year and ended up quite ill. My guess was cc, but it's a risk I took. I learned my lesson, never again! I heavily pack snacks while on road trips now lol that's a scenario I'm not willing to replay! I know some others have had better luck than I, but that's my story.
  8. So this isn't cake but it's very yummy and simple, since that's what I'm all about lol the Enjoy Life "chocolate chips" are quite yummy, allergen free. For my birthday present my best friend came over and made me chocolate covered strawberries!! She just melted the chocolate chips and dipped huge organic strawberries in it...oh my goodness, so yummy!
  9. Hang in there! Once you get going it will get easier. The beginning is all about learning and trying new things! Good luck to you!!
  10. I'm glad I saw this thread, I was just saying to my mom today that I'd love to have a new salad recipe! Thanks ladies! I don't really have anything fancy salad wise but I did make a yummy Italian pasta salad today. I'm not much for measuring so here it is: Italian pasta salad 1 bag gluten-free pasta (I use elbows usually) 1/2 pkg pepperoni chopped...
  11. I tried to adapt from scratch in the beginning and failed miserably more than once lol that was when I discovered te mix haha good luck!! If you come up with a great one, please share! ?
  12. Hahahaha this is awesome!
  13. I use a mix called Favorite Sandwich Bread, so good. I use my bread machine on the dough setting. It runs the cycle and then I put it in a pan and cook the old fashioned way. It's my favorite, I don't make it very often but when I do I fall in love with it all over again!
  14. Oops haha tonight we're having homemade spaghetti sauce, with spaghetti sauce and homemade gluten-free biscuits!
  15. My father and I usually grow a decent sized garden for the family to eat out of, but this year he decided we'd forgo the garden. So we just did some tomato, green pepper, and basil plants in pots. That father of mine is one smart cookie, we've had so much rain in the last 2 weeks that our garden plot, or where it used to be, is under water! I'm glad I listened...
  16. Chocolate rice cakes, a spreas of peanut butter, and slices of banana to cover. To die for, lol to me anyway!
  17. I, myself, like the Twenty2 Vodka. It's made in Maine, actually in my hometown, and states right on their site that it's gluten-free. Check it out for yourself: twenty2vodka.com
  18. I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but you're right, you do find out who really cares. Now, as for this best friend, if you two have been best friends since kindergarten the. This warrants atleast an adult conversation. That's a long time to throw away! Perhaps you should send her an invite to your house where you two can talk it over, or choose neutral...
  19. Now wait, am I reading that wrong? Did you say apple slices and hummus? That's an interesting combo, love new combos!
  20. Great advice, once the problem ingredient is narrowed down it can be eliminated. Good luck!!
  21. You're definitely on the right track! It just takes a little time to get your feet under you, good luck! ?
  22. I do actually get an email everyday from a gluten free site that sends a recipe everyday. Some are good, some are not so much haha but it's really added to my collection so I atleast have something to fall back on!
  23. Very interesting article, I'm not sure how I feel about it all but I'd love to read through a study once these theories are tested.
