I clicked on the last page, yep, hate to admit it, to see what all the scuttlebut was
Now, I'm going to have to go back and read 112 posts . . . I can't stand it when I find a long thread interesting.
The only thing is, it's kind of like, "Which celebrities have REALLY BAD diarrhea???????"
Just kidding -- only a joke. Don't send nasty e-mails or personal messages to me!
Maybe some of these celebs could be talked into rallying for a cause -- the walk for Celiac is in June(?) -- at any rate, even a couple showing up could do wonders for the media exposure.

Haven't tried those -- I use Genisoy Milk & Egg protein, but I'm not lactose intolerant. Will have to check Jay Robb out, though.

No problem. Don't know about the calcification, but the white spots are indicative of MS -- which, evidently, often coincides with Celiac, from what I've read. (Don't want to scare you though -- I DON'T know about the calcification). I don't have celiac. I have Gluten Ataxia. I have anti-perkinje antibodies, as well, and when they cross-react with the anti-gliadin antibodies, they destroy perkinje cells. They're primarily located in the cerebellum of your brain, a significant part of your retinas, and some portion of your peripheral nerves. It's the pitts, sometimes, when I think about it . . . I'm in a wheelchair because I walk worse than a street drunk on a 7-day bender. I fall a LOT, even with the walker, so . . . .wheelchair it is. What is ironic, though, is that prior to this, I had my own physical therapy practice! I went from practitioner to patient. Feels kind of strange, but I'm getting used to it, I guess. My advice: You know your body better than ANYONE. The funny thing is, I used to tell my patients that. I think that's the one thing that has given me a sense of peace with this . . . I really listened to my patients, took their concerns seriously -- even when the doctor had blown them off, and respected that no one knew their bodies better than them. I believe that now, more than ever. Take care of yourself, and don't settle . . . . you deserve much more than mediocrity. ((Hugs)), Lynne
P.S. Weary is the word I used to describe when I was in the diagnosing phase of this, as well. Still in some of the diagnosing part -- just got a few new "autoimmune diseases" to add to my list, but, I've gotten "immune"
to hearing it, and now just say "oh, well."
-
The doctors at Hopkins and Mayo told me it was in my head, too. Unfortunately, it was, and because I wasn't gluten-free because of them, a chunk of my cerebellum was destroyed. Listen to your body, not some callous, ego-driven idiots!

That's IT!!!!! Cheers to ChelsE!! I'm raising my glass to you as we speak!!!!!

YES! I WANT IT ALL!! AND I WANT IT FREE, FREE DO YOU HEAR ME??????

HOORAY!
Vincent, I loved your comment . . . . but really, can we not go there EVER again!

Use a mask!!!! You can get 3M brand masks at the hardware store that filter out down to microparticles, I think. There was a thread earlier about a woman's husband who is a manager at Chick-fil-A, and when he is in the back helping, flour is flying around everywhere -- then he gets VERY sick. Good luck, and please take care of yourself . . . Lynne

I should knock on wood, but I have not had a bad experience yet with wait staff when trying to order gluten-free. In fact, our waiter the other night said, "Ma'am (damn it made me feel old -- anyway), if you don't mind me asking, what type of diet are you on that you can't have these things?" I told him that I was gluten intolerant, it destroys my cerebellum, blah blah blah and that's why I'm in the chair. His eyes lit up and he said, "I have a friend with Celiac disease. I know what you're talking about with regard to the gluten. I'll make a special note on your food that it doesn't get around gluten-containing foods." Tell me he didn't get 30%!!!!!!!!!

Once again, You've Done It!! You are fantastic at finding articles that are SOOOOOO good
Thank you so much . . . .. Lynne

I don't have celiac, just GI, so I'm don't have any knowledge of it personally, nor have I read anything that mentions that. My question would be, how long does the stiffness in your knee last before it goes away? Do you have it in any other joints in your body? Do you have any other autoimmune diseases? That's about my two cents' worth
Sorry I couldn't be more help

ChelsE -- I think the greeting card thing is a good idea! I had a friend, when her divorce was final, they threw her a big party -- they got a wedding cake, then the bride and groom topper, cut the head off the groom, and laid it at the bride's feet!!!!!
I think there's a place in the world for things like that -- and cards to go with them!!!!!

Rusla -- you are BAD!!!
Funny, but BAD!!!!!

It does sound like a shoebox greeting! So . . . .Congratulations on your new autoimmune diagnosis! I'm sure you'll have many happy(?) years with it!

Hey -- I'm with you. We always make a big production of birthdays at my family. Since I've been gluten-free, I've had to bake my own brownies once (no one would go downstairs to preheat or put the brownies in the oven until I threw a temper tantrum -- I'm in a wheelchair), and I've had the custard our of pies one time. (this is 2 incidents in about 7 birthdays. Otherwise, they have regular cake and ice-cream that contains gluten. We have two more birthdays to go before mine.
My husband is so hacked about it, he's decided that on my birthday, I'm to tell all of them that he has the cake taken care of. Then, when it's time for birthday, we're going to have nothing -- and will tell them that they're getting what I get at every birthday celebration. Passive/Aggressive -- absolutely. But sometimes, it's the only way I can get my message across to them!

My mom has cancer -- had a difficult time on Chemo with "adult" vitamins -- she started taking these -- she loves them! She said that she wouldn't go back to regular vitamins!
She gave me one -- you're right -- they're DELICIOUS!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not M&M's -- they are my only "treat" now!!!!! Rusla, am anxiously awaiting the response you get from M&M Mars!!!

I went on a de-glutening rant after I was told that I HAD to be gluten-free. We have one little corner in the pantry (it used to be a whole shelf) that my husband can keep his gluten-filled "goodies" -- although now, he buys only the ones that are individually packaged! Thanks for a GREAT story! Lynne

I'm with you!!!!!

That's really good news -- another restaurant willing to help (especially in the midst of the whole McD's thing . . . ) -- my husband is going to be really happy about this!!!!

Sorry about not getting the things out sooner . . . . just got more bad news two days ago
, and have had to call ALL MD's -- neuro, rheumatologist, ear, nose, throat . . . it's a mess. Trying to figure out what's the best way to attack the current problem without having to compromise the ability to diagnose the new one. Have also made call(s) over and over to the insurance company . . . will be home tomorrow afternoon -- will post then. In the meantime, if you're the praying type, I would really appreciate it. Can't believe that I have ANOTHER autoimmune disease. This is getting rediculous. Thanks . . . Lynne

I can't believe you got crap from the Ragu guy! I've been e-mailing companies (btw: Unilever won't answer my e-mails) but ANYWAY -- I get the "Hi Lynne! We're SO glad you contacted us!!" prior to the answer -- then they try to push a product on me at the end -- Have you tried our new wrinkle cream? It is . . . . . . Thanks for writing!
I finally wrote one company back and told them that I found it personally offensive that they were so perky when I was asking them questions that not only affected my health, but the longevity of my life. Their reply was a little less perkier than before.
Geesh -- these companies! . . .. Lynne

My sister lost a LOT of weight on weight watchers -- she suggested the same thing with regard to using the plan, just incorporate it into my gluten-free diet. Okay, that's the second person to suggest it to me . . . one more and I know I'm being sent a VERY strong message

I believe that Shelley Case's book gives a breakdown between US and European food regulations, particularly with regard to wording .. . .
