  1. Oh sorry! You aren't the OP who has the hubs who works at the fire house. Oh well, same things apply.
  2. Zebra007, I know it's completely overwhelming right now. Each of us has been through that & it seems like your head is aswirl with all the rules. I PROMISE you it gets much, much easier! It will become second nature to you & really it won't take as long as you think. Just take a deep breath. One step at a time. I think we all start out right away...
  3. You can't download photos directly from your computer to this site. I don't know why. it would be sooooo much easier that way. You have to load photos onto something like Flickr or Photo Bucket & then download them to here. These links will give you the basic flour blend which most all the recipes come from. It will also give you the recipe for biscuits...
  4. Okay, good. Whew! If they want to do an endoscopy then you'll have to go back to gluten.
  5. If you want to get tested you will HAVE to be eating gluten. You will have to do a gluten challenge ir else you will get a false result & that doesn't mean eating gluten for a few days --- its months.
  6. You can also go to Nuts.com & click on their gluten free link & come up with lots of gluten-free candies. They are very good about labeling ingredients. There are jelly beans. jelly candy, hard candy, gummies...... a long, long list of candies & sweets. If you can tolerate things made in a facility as milk products then you owe it to yourself...
  7. This is excellent advice IMHO.
  8. I would suggest that you print out these & snail mail them to the GI doc along with a letter repeating that you had TOLD them a celiac blood panel would come up negative b/c you had been gluten free. At the very least perhaps it will EDUCATE the GI for the next poor soul who comes in getting the blood panel. Open Original Shared Link Open Original...
  9. Thanks for the tip but they plumped up really well in this w/o any pre-plumping. I will do that though for cookies. I wish I could figure out how to post photos on here. I have done it in the past. I use Flickr and it worked great previously but a couple weeks ago I tried & tried & tried -- spent about 2 hours trying to make it work but it was a no...
  10. I can't say as I have never used a bread maker machine but I think it's a little different for gluten-free breads in bread machines.
  11. Like a broken record! Many, many, many have had the same symptoms. You need to be tested for celiac disease. First, a celiac blood panel. The full current blood panel is this: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA...
  12. I can't help you with the deep fryer question b/c I just use a pan to fry in. As to the bread making machine I have a different suggestion. You don't need a bread making machine. Get a nice stand mixer & some quality 9 x 4 x 4" loaf pans like the ones King Arthur Flour sells and get this gluten-free cookbook: "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook" by...
  13. We couldn't wait for it to completely cool. I have a 2 piece tube pan so I waited just long enough to get the outer ring off & we cut into it. Sheer heaven!!!!!! It can't be gluten free but it is!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. YVW! Yes, those pans are great otherwise you have to fashion a tin foil collar to hold the bread in place & keep it from spilling over onto the bottom of your oven. I have their coffee cake recipe in the oven right now. The aroma is driving me crazy --- I'm going to drool all over my keyboard & short it out. I'll come back later & let...
  15. My husband & I have been ecstatic over the baked goods I've made using recipes from "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook" which last I looked was being sold on Amazon & at WalMart for under $16. The Classic Sandwich Bread Recipe is fantastic & tastes like "real" bread as is the case with the biscuit recipe & the dinner rolls recipe that...
  16. I'll have to wait then. Thanks so much for the info. & I'll be on the lookout for them coming to Florida.
  17. Good for you Ruth!!! Giving that baby kisses all over her face is important!
  18. My thought is that he's getting the worst of cross contamination in the Firehouse. It's fabulous that his co-workers are so supportive & make gluten-free meals but I'm thinking the problem does not lay with what they are cooking as it does with what they are cooking IN. Those pots & pans have to be cross contaminated as well as the cooking utensils...
  19. If you are dx'd celiac then I would suggest one cookbook as an absolute must have above all others especially since you stated you enjoy baking. It is "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook" by America's Test Kitchen. Quite frankly my hubs & I tried every gluten-free bread out there available to us in the stores as well as making our own from scratch...
  20. Go back through this thread --- the Newbie 101 --- and make sure you didn't miss anything. I agree it would be best to take the household gluten free and also have him tested to see what his antibodies are doing. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  21. Very cool! Thanks so much for letting us know about this. Yippie!
  22. Today is the day! Go get 'em!!!
  23. If you haven't used the cream in a month & don't use it on new places then you should be fine to get a biopsy. The biopsy is taken from fresh lesions so the old ones wouldn't be candidates for biopsy. There's more leeway on the topical steroid (corticosteroid) than on the oral or shots -- those stay in the system for a while.
  24. My dog was grain free long before I was gluten free. I don't think there was really any gluten in her kibble before but I now feed her raw and it is gluten free. I feed her raw for her health but I would feed her gluten-free if I fed her kibble. I kiss her all the time and dogs lick themselves and I would just feel better not worrying about getting any cc...
