  1. We love spice cake & stumbled upon Namaste Spice Cake mix which really is quite good. But after I learned what I did from the cookbook I applied that knowledge when making the spice cake. which is that gluten free flours do not hydrate at the same speed as gluten flours so you need to give a resting period so they will not be gritty or grainy. I began...
  2. I think you'll be very happy with it plus it has some nice "general" gluten-free recipes in it. And as Laura said, it tells you the science behind gluten-free cooking especially with flours. The things I've learned from it i am applying to my other cooking & things are turning out better! Yay!
  3. While there is dry milk powder in their flour blend it is only 3 Tablespoons in a recipe that makes 9 & 1/3 cups of flour blend so I imagine you could leave that out or use the BRM four. As to using milk in the recipes they say unsweetened soy milk is usually a good sub for milk but the finished dishes will be less rich since soy milk contains about ...
  4. WARNING! If you take the steroids then it will screw up the blood work as well as the dh biopsy & you will come up with false negatives hon. You will have to wait 2 months after being OFF the steroids before you can get accurate testing. On limited time here --- will be back later. Hang in there!
  5. Read this thread too: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/96552-help-for-the-itching-stinging-burning-pain-of-dh/
  6. Hi Crystal & welcome. It sure sounds like you are probably celiac. This may sound odd but you might be in luck. I have no medical evidence to back this up but I have a theory that the celiacs with dh who DO have strong GI symptoms are more likely to test positive on the celiac blood panel than those of us who have mild or no GI symptoms & from what...
  7. Thanks Karen! Got it now. Yay! Great link.
  8. This link is not working for me. I keep getting "page not found". Can someone please check it & re-post the link? Thanks! Thanks Karen for the original post.
  9. Thank you for these links! They should be horsewhipped.
  10. I can't say if a biopsy ON the lesion can come back to suggest an athropod hypersensitive reaction although dh biopsies done INCORRECTLY on a lesion have come back with all sorts of various "suggestions". The derms have all done a dh biopsy WRONG. They must be taken on clear skin ADJACENT to an active lesion AND if you've been on oral or injected steroids...
  11. I am so sorry about your mom. ((((((((((littleburgy))))))))))))))))) My best friends hubs went to the ER for abdominal pain she & he were sure was appendicitis but the doc there said there was no possible way it was appendicitis as he was too old to have appendicitis and refused to even consider the possibility. So while the doc dawdled the patients...
  12. Here is the reference: Open Original Shared Link And here you have to scroll down to the portion on dh: Open Original Shared Link Here is something you could print out & take to the derm so they do the biopsy correctly b/c SO many DON'T: Open Original Shared Link More info: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared...
  13. 60% of celiacs with dh test negative on the blood panel & also have a low rate of positives on the endoscopic biopsies. DH has to be dx'd with a biopsy of clear skin adjacent to an active lesion. AND you still have to do the gluten challenge otherwise you will have a false negative.
  14. Plus with a formal dx, it will make it easier to get your kids tested. Also, I might mention that your siblings & parents should be tested. If any of your sibs or parents balk and many do b/c they can't imagine life w/o gluten; then you having a formal dx might be the difference in them getting tested. Are you sure your insurance will not pay for it...
  15. You ought to print this out & mail it to the Ped GI so she can learn.: Open Original Shared Link And: Open Original Shared Link
  16. Try not to take everything as a negative. It's easy to fall into that pit & even though there are a lot of people out there who will react negatively -- eye rollers & such --- realize that there are good people out there too. I think when they make comments or ask what you had for dinner last night it could very well be them trying to make you feel...
  17. If you have pets feed the gluten free pet food. Not everyone does this -- not everyone agrees thai is necessary but if you are like me & love & kiss on your dog (or cat) all the time then it's not a bad idea. We all know cats lick themselves but dogs lick themselves in many places too. I feel much better knowing I don't have to worry about my dog...
  18. You might want to subscribe to the Gluten Free Watchdog. It's $4.99 per month. Open Original Shared Link They test 8 products per month. You get a notification in your inbox each time a product is tested -- they do 2 products at the time. Just this month a Rolled Oats product labeled gluten free tested well above 20 ppm of gluten.
  19. There is another website which is older & more established. it also has more information imo, being that it has reviews by people who have eaten there. Open Original Shared Link
  20. Also if they bring you a burger with a bun on it cut the whole thing in half so they can't just remove the bun & bring back the contaminated burger. Same goes for a steak you order & they bring bread on the plate -- cut the steak in half so they can't just take the bread off the plate & bring back the contaminated plate & hence the same steak...
  21. Read every label every time. That's your mantra for the next 30 days. There are some tricks to discover if they've taken you seriously or have a good understanding of what it takes to keep you safe. If there are croutons on your salad before you send it back bury a sugar packet in it, then when they bring you a "new" salad, check for the sugar packet -...
  22. Make sure that's gluten free rice chex.
