  1. So for 2 weeks he's been getting the topical cortisone the derm said to use for 3 weeks. Huh. Doesn't look like that's going to keep the rash at bay eh?
  2. Welcome to the forum Robin! Hang in there. It can take a while. Keep a close eye on that liver for sure. I'm glad you finally got a dx. That's a FEAT!
  3. If you decide to go gluten free & forego an official dx then be sure to read the Newbie 101 so you know how to protect yourself. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ Also read as many threads here in the dh forum as possible. You will learn a great deal.
  4. I agree with all the others. BUT I think maybe your mom is trying overly hard to have THEIR home be a gluten free household for YOU who doesn't live there. Mom's are like that - yeh, they are. Mom's are loving & kind & kiss your boo boo's & go miles out of their way for their children. It's what mothers do and we love them & they love us....
  5. I was 55 when those photos were taken and I had been gluten free for 10 months when that outbreak began where you see it on my back. I had had it like that on my back before & even worse but I had never had it get like it did in those horrid photos starting 1/19/13. It WAS extremely painful! Like slivers of glass stuck in me & burned constantly. The...
  6. I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to answer you. I was doing income taxes. Boooooo! That looks like the way my husbands presented just before going gluten free. It also looks a lot like a milder version of the worst stage I went through. Here's a link - start with the post of my photos on 1/22/13 & continue with them on pg. 6. https://www.celiac...
  7. It sure does look much, much better.
  8. So call OHSU in Portland then & make the appointment. If you wait for them to call you then you could be waiting a long time. Tell them you were referred so you're calling to see when they can schedule her.
  9. The mirror presentation is pretty telling. Well, with derms who know what they're doing & understand dh they usually say to call when there is a flare & they let you come in that day & they go ahead & biopsy it. The children's hospital ER might be your best bet. They may know what they're doing & then again they may not. It's frustrating...
  10. Quoting from Amy's website: Amy’s Kitchen Policies and Practices Amy’s has always had strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to avoid cross-contact of our non-gluten products with gluten and we continue to strengthen these practices. The GMPs include strict raw material control, sanitation practices and employee training. We are constantly improving our...
  11. Yes, eventually you should be able to add sugar back in. You may find yourself having new food intolerances so be on the lookout for that. Your acid reflux may go away all by itself just being gluten-free. You can test different foods -- just do one at the time. Keep a food log & that way you can track what's upsetting you. Learning to eat gluten-free...
  12. It sounds like you are going through gluten withdrawal. It's real & it happens to lots of us but not all of us. Be warned you might get ravenously hungry & be that way every second of the day for a bit. You need to have protein & some good fat at every meal especially in the mornings. Let's make sure you know what you need to know about being...
  13. For starters read this entire thread: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ That will give you a whole lot of information. And I also applaud your support of your girlfriend!!!! My hat is off to you! If you eat or drink gluten then your girlfriend can get glutened when you guys kiss unless you brush your teeth very thoroughly...
  14. No, you would not be off in thinking that. Just remember that dh does not always just "pop up" when eating gluten -- it isn't an automatic next day thing or next 4 days or even next month thing. DH can & does wax & wane while eating gluten or NOT eating gluten. SO, you have to consider that in your evaluation. I looked up some links that you (probably...
  15. Messenger, Notifications & profile does not work for me 99% of the time that I click on them. I do get the little # up there to tell me how many new notifications I have and how many messages I have but as I said, 99% of the time when I click on them I get nothing, zero, zilch, nada. this happens both in Safari & Google Chrome. I have no idea about...
  16. You are most welcome! Actually I was surprised when to read that: "An increasing number of patients are being diagnosed without typical GI manifestations at older ages. A reasonable assumption is that approximately 70% of patients with newly diagnosed celiac disease do not present with the typical major GI symptoms. Once again, a relationship between the...
  17. I'm going to try not to forget to comment on all the things you've said. So then he's presenting bilaterally now. That narrows down the list of rashes & is in line with dh. I would like to relate my personal experiences..... When I first began to present with the little blisters they itched but not like the very devil. They would itch for a while &...
  18. Okay, I could view the slideshow. First, dh doesn't always present as blisters -- it takes other forms. Read this: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/84513-descriptions-of-dh-types/ Second, it's really hard to say from photos but what I'm seeing could be dh & then again it might not be. Not knowing the individual dates on each photo I can't tell...
  19. It's certainly better than nothing and now that the Gen. Mgr. knows about it maybe he will keep a tighter eye on things in that department.
  20. It's entirely possible he is celiac! You don't have to have dh for him to have dh. DH IS celiac - it just presents on the skin more than the GI stuff. Also if he has dh --- 60% of the time those of us with dh test false negative on the celiac blood panel and the endoscopy comes back negative much more often that normal celiacs. If you want an official dx...
  21. It isn't the pop up blocker b/c I don't have that on and it isn't the other security settings so that now only leaves me with clearing the cache which I have to research -- it looks like I have to re-set Safari to do that & someone else with a Mac warned me there may be some consequences I might not be happy about if I do that. But this is not just a...
  22. Not to mention the other things that are contaminating the cheese such as mayo, onions and any other condiments. It's just BAD.
  23. Good for you for hanging in there! Welcome to the club.
  24. Yes, it does but there are lots of rashes that look alike. What you have said about the way the rash acts is more telling & it could very well be dh. The fact that it doesn't itch as bad on your bum does not mean it isn't dh.
  25. I do understand. But just remember --- not everything you read on the internet is true. When you hear or read this off the wall stuff just take a deep breath, calm down, and research for yourself. Come here & ask. I recall when I was a newbie & that kind of extremist talk scares you so you aren't sure what to eat. Or do. Someone once pm'd me saying...
