  1. I hope that heals up quick for you. My husband is paranoid about my mandolin and is convinced I'm going to eventually cut something off with it. Sounds to me like a perfectly good reason to eat out for a few days.
  2. This week when I got myself glutened on top of feeling totally mentally checked out I felt like biting the head off anyone or anything that looked at me sideways. Not a good attitude when I'm babysitting an obnoxious one year old but we managed okay without me traumatizing him for the rest of his life.
  3. I tried freezing mine once when I was still using Tinkyada pasta. It froze fine and baked up beautifully when I was ready to eat it. That happened to be about 2 days later and I no longer bother to lie to myself and say I'll freeze some and save it for later. I'll just polish off the whole pan in 2 to 3 days which is why I only make it once a month. I cook...
  4. Cutting boards, everything wooden, cast iron cookware and scratched nonstick pans are automatically out. I don't use my plastic storage containers in the microwave, but if you do you'll want separate ones for your daughter because microwaving them damages the plastic. The blender I'm sure is fine, I'd be less worried about the blades and more worried about...
  5. I found myself not feeling particularly well after testing this out for myself. I had a large can of dried blueberries I used for pancakes and muffins and such that's from a shared facility. I ate a whole bunch and wasn't feeling particularly well for a few days after that. Once was enough for me and I stay away from shared anything now. (My exception being...
  6. I've noticed it seems to be different at every store. At Harmon's, they have a 2 aisle section for "health food" which includes a freezer on one side of an aisle and has all sorts of stuff that's "natural" or "organic" and some that's gluten free. They also label things on the shelves throughout the store. At Smith's they don't have a separate section but...
  7. So on Tuesday I had a tooth extraction and proceeded afterward to the store to fill my prescriptions for an antibiotic and painkiller. All I could think about was how it was starting to hurt and how much I wanted to be at home with my lortab, it didn't dawn on me to check on the gluten free status of my antibiotic. (I already knew this pharmacy is safe for...
  8. My family aren't really huggers. I grew up in Pennsylvania with a very close family, we just didn't hug. The exception is my grammy who is a hugger. Not like all the time, but with hellos and goodbyes. I live in Utah now and lots of people here are huggers. My best friend is a super hugger which took some real getting used to. Still though, the only people...
  9. Not exactly what I had in mind. Most dental work, had an extraction yesterday. (FUN!!!) I picked up some of that Bob's Red Mill hot cereal which is pretty good doctored up. I've been adding baby food bananas and caramel sauce. Instead of some prepackaged junk though tonight I'm getting all adventurous and making my own caramel sauce. I wonder how many...
  10. I'd call or check out a website to find out what is and isn't gluten free. I personally wouldn't risk the CC of dipped ice cream because clean scoop or not it's possible there has been some CC from a formerly rinsed scoop. I have not had any issues at my favorite yogurt shop, everything is soft serve and only some flavors are gluten free. For toppings...
  11. I totally agree with you Tikala. If any of us heard of a child being treated this way in school we would all be outraged and demand that something be done. Instead, when an adult is bullied we're all telling her to suck it up and roll with it. Lynxigirl never said the meeting is mandatory, just that the manager wouldn't like it if she didn't go. Let's all...

    ARCHIVED Need A Little Advice

Did the doctor actually diagnose you with celiac? Was his opinion about your intestine based on the biopsy results or just what he could see during the procedure? I'm mostly confused. Why would he prescribe prilosec for an allergy when he doesn't even know what that allergy is? To answer one question, yes, going gluten free before a biopsy will skew the results...
  13. If dinner isn't really about eating why does the manager have to have the meeting at a restaurant. There is absolutely no reason for any of us to be required to show up somewhere and watch other people eat. It can be especially emotionally difficult early on. I can tell you that there is absolutely no way in hell I would be bullied by someone into doing so...
  14. I'm not sure what's different with the holiday shaped ones but nothing is different with the holiday ones in pretty wrappers. They're just the same old thing from the same old plant with prettier foil. I was very bad this year and couldn't resist temptation when I saw on clearance after Easter one of the giant eggs for a buck. They're usually like $4 and...
  15. When did you say was a good time for a roommate to move in? I can be packed and out the door in an hour.
  16. Finally got around to it today! Got myself 4 beautiful orange tomato plants and 4 more orange cherry tomato plants. I bought the plants at the garden center I was buying produce from last year. The tomatoes I had last summer were the most amazingly delicious omg to die for things I've ever eaten and I just had to have that kind. I also planted some lettuce...
  17. After three months gluten free. I'm still having some pretty serious neurological problems. My biggest complain is severe migrating pain. My doctor wants me to see a neurologist, makes sense to me. We just want to rule out MS before we send me off to the rheumatologist to diagnose or rule out lupus. (oh joy) I have no doubt it'll come to a diagnosis given...
  18. It is possible to stick up for yourself and be nice at the same time. That was a hard lesson for me to learn, which I fortunately covered long before my diagnosis. Something simple like "hey mom, I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but even bread crumbs can make me very sick. We keep this part of the kitchen gluten free, but feel free to use the rest of...
  19. Not sure if you have the option available, but it definitely cheaper to do the refillable water bottles. I know Wal-Mart has the water stations (at least all I've been to) and some grocery stores too. Usually somewhere in the back (Wal-Mart) or out front on the sidewalk (groceries back home in PA). I used to use these and bring 3 or 5 gallon refillable containers...
  20. If it's busy? I wish there were moments my local In-N-Out wasn't busy. It is the only one in the area and has been open for just over 2 years. There has never been a time I've driven by that there weren't cars in the drive through, which includes times like 3 in the morning. By now people who eat there should just expect a wait, I won't feel guilty about...
  21. I have a dust allergy and it sure builds up fast here. I find that the more often I clean, the better I feel. Other than that, dust really shouldn't be a concern.
  22. There are a few websites available where you can see what the Sunday coupons are. If there are ones you will use worth more than the cost of the paper, that's the time to head to the store and buy half a dozen newspapers. If someone can get to the stores in the morning, that's generally a great time to find things nearing their expiration date that have been...
  23. I had some BBQ chicken. I had high hopes for that chicken, it was supposed to be orange ginger chicken. Then I decided on a whim to make jam and didn't have the energy to do more than slap it on a grill. All that can be hanged though, I saw someone mention pavlova in another thread which I'd never heard of before. That was my dessert, it'll probably make...
  24. I eat Rosarita without any problems. I eat the regular ones though, bring on the lard!
  25. My daughter is planning on attending MIT. You can opt for a dorm there that doesn't have a dining hall (the only way not to be forced into paying for prepared meals) and simply prepare all of your own meals in the kitchen. There is of course a chance of CC sharing a kitchen like that but at least you know how your food was prepared.
