  1. In my search for a dairy replacement, I noticed that everything I tried just felt different in my mouth than milk felt. I'm not sure if that is maybe what you are experiencing? It didn't feel bad, just different than what I was used to. I use Earthpaste, which is gluten free. It is not corn free, the sweetener in it is sourced from both corn and birch...
  2. I'll be busy tonight when my husband gets home from work. So I'll have a salad ready for him and a burger ready for him to grill and he'll be all set. I suppose if he wants something more he can nuke a "baked" potato and put some bacon and ranch on it or something. I'll have the same thing, just much later after I get off the phone. And we'll follow up with...
  3. I know it isn't brush brushing, but you could carry those Wisp thingers (if they are gluten free) and offer him one after a meal out and you both go use one. I may seem a little presumptive but at some point the gluten thing will come up and and can just be very matter of fact, no big deal about it and you're prepped and ready to go make kissy faces.
  4. If you poke around enough, you'll see that their Kosher certificate has their address on it. It doesn't have a zip, but if you plug the address into the USPS website it will provide a zip for you.
  5. This caught my attention because of this recent article I saw. She is young enough that no one will care what her tshirt says. You could also probably just contact a local tshirt place and have "don't feed me, I have food allergies" put on a tshirt. I have to say I would certainly have chewed someone's a$$ out back in the day if that were my kid. I would...
  6. If you stop eating gluten for a while then start again and it makes you sick, chances are you are you are either gluten intolerant or an undiagnosed celiac. Having celiac type symptoms from gluten is exactly what gluten intolerance is. Your friend either made up the study, misunderstood the study, or the study was done by complete morons.
  7. I am afraid of needles. Every time I have my blood drawn I sit there waiting, fine, until they are tying that thing on my arm. I'll start breathing really shallow and fast. Then they stick the needle in me and I just stop breathing. It isn't on purpose, it just happens. Eventually I suppose I start turning colors because I get told to breathe. I do a...
  8. This is why it is vital to research every product or company. Lays has two separate lists of products on their website which is easily found by googling "lays gluten free" and is what I do every time I have a hankering for a chip. This page explains that the gluten free products are tested, while the products not containing gluten ingredients may be run on...
  9. Last week I had a few overripe bananas from my basket so I decided to make banana bread. (This was after my trial and discovering I can in fact eat bananas. YAY!!!) My first try was tasty, but didn't turn out as.... bread. My second attempt I used the minimum amount of bananas called for, added a little xanthum gum. I was going to look up how much to use...
  10. The thing that kills me is my parents and doctor are the ones who dropped all the balls. As a small child I got the same treatment all kids did back then, after eating I was told to go outside and play. I would then promptly poop my pants. Every time. I was berated over and over, repeatedly, multiple times a day, about what a horrible person I was because...
  11. Dinner doesn't have to be exciting. Our salads are just converted from the sandwiches my husband used to love and got addicted to during his short stint at Blimpie. I'm not even cooking chicken, we're going to use the leftover Costco chicken. I suppose I still have to cook though if I want my mac & cheese. OMG though... I got stuck in this stupid thing...
  12. I would say that the issue is almost certainly because it was from a bakery laced with flour or just because it was from a decorating bag and tip that were frequently touching cakes made of gluten. The icing itself was probably made of gluten free ingredients, but I can't imagine any circumstances under which I would eat anything from a regular bakery.
  13. I found bread from The Essential Baking Company. Never heard of them before. I posted some nonsense about it over in the products section. I don't know if anyone remembers that kind of whole wheat bread that was full of like sunflower seeds and other seeds and oats and all that? Well, this is kinda like that but minus the oats. It is full of all sorts of...
  14. When it comes to "safe" companies I know what to look for and there is almost never a gluten free label. I tend to stick to these companies frequently. When shopping for things outside those companies products, the labeling still doesn't influence my buying habits because there is no legal definition of gluten free in the US or a legal standard for when they...
  15. I was slow in getting back, but it got nailed for me. Yes, it is CRPS. Sort of makes fibro pale in comparison for me, but I still wouldn't wish fibro on anyone. Good luck with the gluten free helping you.
  16. Bahahaha!! This just makes me envision some cartoony old people throwing a chicken at a door to a house and just as it falls onto the front step the door opens and then a host of hungry children fall up on the chicken like ravenous wolves. Pretty much sums up feeding hungry teens.
  17. I do not take those chickens at all for granted. I count my lucky stars every time I have one. I just sort of panicked when I realized that my planned dinner was still in the freezer. I guess I know what I'll have tomorrow at least.
  18. I realized while I was on my way to the eye doctor that I forgot to get dinner out of the freezer. So, Costco chicken since we were going there anyway, with roasted taters and bread. OMG the most amazing bread. If you saw someone squealing like a little girl in your local Costco this evening over gluten free bread, that was me.
  19. So I stop in Costco today for Splenda and am meandering to the front of the store and happen to see a huge display of bread. I'm like whatever. Then I notice it is two packs of gluten free bread. I squeal with delight and RUN to the display. At this point I am quite sure everyone in the area is looking at me like I'm a freak. I was holding a chicken so I...
  20. I was diagnosed with fibro a couple of years before my surprise celiac diagnosis. After trying both Cymbalta and Lyrica and having neither help, I gave up on the idea of ever feeling better. Much to my surprise, the longer I have been gluten free (just over a year now) the less all over pain I have. It hasn't gone away, and because I also have CRPS it can...
  21. No, celiacs don't own the gluten free diet. At the same time, people trying to lose weight and claim to be gluten free are usually no such thing. They have given up bread, pasta and cereals, maybe a few other things that are super starchy and all the calories that go with those, and that accounts for the weight loss as long as they don't replace it with anything...
  22. That cake looks amazing! Also, burrito wraps is a brilliant idea. I should try that.
  23. Errand day, so lazy day. Leftovers for me. Apparently my husband doesn't like corned beef. Who ever heard of such a thing? Oh well, he picked up a frozen pizza while we ran errands and that is his dinner. Now tomorrow I can sleep until I wake up. No alarms. That mango sauce looks SO GOOD!
  24. That is almost too adorable to eat! Except the chocolate part. That gets me every time.
  25. I love bubble gum flavored everything, never grew out of it. But yes, there is something almost magical about the the textures together. And, if they get stale you can just pop them in hot chocolate. I most love the chocolate bunnies or the huge chocolate covered peeps that they sell in the single packs for like 75 cents.
