ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
aikiducky replied to rebz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you decide to not go gluten free at this point, in my opinion you certainly should get another biopsy some time in the future (a year or two). I think it's very likely that you're in the early stages of intestinal damage, and the most sensible thing would be to go gluten free now before any more damage has a chance to happen, but if you don't want to do... -
ARCHIVED Snacks? Dairy, Soy, Gluten And Corn Free
aikiducky replied to mn farm gal's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, I usually carry some dried fruit and nuts in my bag if I leave the house. Mango mentioning rice crackers reminded me, I sometimes also have a couple rice cakes with nut butter and honey for a sweet snack. And I love white cabbage. But mostly I must say I just eat meals... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Pre-blood Test Question
aikiducky replied to poohbear's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It depends on how long you have been gluten free before going back on gluten for the test. The idea is that if you have been gluten free for a long time, any damage that you might have had would have healed, and wouldn't show up in tests any more. Also, if you have been gluten free for a while, it takes some time for your antibodies to come up again. So if... -

ARCHIVED When Someone Has Very Possible Symptoms Of Celiac/gluten Intolerance...
aikiducky replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I usually focus on how I myself feel better and my symptoms have improved. Like "I used to be bloated all the time too, but luckily it has gone away since I discovered that I was reacting to gluten" or something like that. Then if people are interested they ask questions and if they're not, I don't pursue it further. Pauliina -

I do aikido, and I used to kinda follow my first aikido teacher around and kwak like a duckling... obviously I was a bit enthusiastic in the beginning... that was almost 8 years ago so I've kinda calmed down but then I started collecting duck toys and stuff for a while. I've stopped now because in don't really want a house full of ducks so please don't... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Intolerance And Probiotics
aikiducky replied to JamiD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You might want to read the information about the particular probiotic your taking. The probiotics itself are bacteria, so they have nothing to do with dairy really, but they can be cultured on different things so you need to find one that is ok for your particular intolerances. Pauliina -

ARCHIVED Hi, New, Pretty Much Given Up (long Post) Need Help!
aikiducky replied to Andy-roo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wonder if it could be some kind of a structural/functional problem where your stomach doesn't empty properly or works too slowly or something like that? Or that you lack some digestive enzymes or have too little stomach acid to digest properly? Did your doctors examine this kind of possibilities? I agree with Carla that it if you've been gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Acting Generally Crazy After Getting Glutenized?
aikiducky replied to rbeeka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rusla, that was funny. I can get very emotional when I've been glutened, either throwing a temper tantrum or getting really depressed. So for me the answer would be yes. I don't actually even get very bad intestinal symptoms, but I'm very careful not to get glutened because it messes with my head so badly. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED German Pancakes Recipe Question
aikiducky replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
With that many eggs I don't think you need a gum to hold them together necessarily. I think you can basically use any kind of flour for this, it just depends on taste. I make this kind of pancakes (or crepes, whatever you like to call them) with half corn half rice flour for sweet toppings, or half corn half buckwheat for savoury (I put goat cheese and... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Alexia Julienne Fries - Or My Own Pan?
aikiducky replied to April in KC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The thing about contamination warnings is, one time you might get a batch that is made later and doesn't have any contamination, and another time you might get a batch that was made right after a gluten containing product, so one time you might be fine and the next, get sick. I bet that's what happened with the fries... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Cheese
aikiducky replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It really depends on what your issue is with cheese. If it's lactose, a lot of harder sorts of cheese are probably ok because hard cheeses that have matured for a while really don't have much lactose in them at all, it gets broken down in the maturing process. If it's casein, though, it's much harder because even a lot of "dairy free" cheeses have casein... -
ARCHIVED Testing Question
aikiducky replied to bugstabber's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chris, yes you can be celiac and have negative blood tests. A small bowel biopsy might show what damage there is to your intestine in that case. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED How Long Til 100% Better
aikiducky replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for two and a half years and I can say that I feel 100% ok. It took me I think (can't remember exactly) at least a year. Around four months, although I could tell the diet was working and I was generally much better than before, I was still certainly not 100%. In addition to gluten, I also avoid cow's milk, also traces of, and... -
Yup, my mouth feels much cleaner nowadays, too. I can really feel a difference, even if I go to bed without brushing my teeth (I don't do that often, honest!) it doesn't feel all that bad in the morning. My dentist doesn't even want to see me next year! Pauliina

Thanks everybody, I feel much better today, just a little weak. Another sign that it definitively was a bug, in my experience with stomach viruses I usually get better pretty quickly when I get the virus out of my system (one way or the other ). Gluten on the other hands tends to linger for weeks.... It still throws me that my husband could tell the...

I'm feeling a bit achy and tired and earlier I has some stomach cramps and nasty smelling gas and ditto bm's (sorry!). Glutening you might suspect but I'm in a good mood. I wouldn't feel like doing my taxes right now (or ever ) but I don't have any brain fog either. I asked my husband if he could tell the difference... he could! Another reason I'm...

ARCHIVED Hotel Living Making Me Sick...
aikiducky replied to redharmony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad you feel better! Glad to hear you get to move into your house soon, too! You'll eventually get used to the idea that it's really true. You can always come here and read a few horror stories if you need reminding! The longer you stay strictly gluten free, the better you start to feel, the easier it gets. And you also get a better idea of... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Feel Better After First Going Gluten-free, Then Worse Again?
aikiducky replied to GFinMN's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Both gluten and dairy make me feel dizzy and spaced out so don't rule it out. After you've been on the diet for a while, you get more sensitive because your body doesn't have to deal with a constant battering any more. So it might be that you're reacting to a minute amount in a medicine, or in your make up or shampoo etc. OR you are starting to notice... -
