Sandy, I can't have gluten, dairy (at all), eggs, legumes or nightshades... but as long as I stay away from all of those I'm good, no gas, bloating or funny poops. It's quite possible to have a few food intolerances...but also, your husband should learn that he must wash his hands before preparing food for you! Otherwise you always risk cross contamination...

If you gain weight that suddenly it's water retention, and that to me would seem like a reaction to something that you ate. Pauliina

Add to that, it's not that unlikely for your coworker to have some caucasian genes... even if they might be from a couple generations back. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Should I Go Ahead With A Biopsy?
aikiducky replied to jjgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Why does the doctor want to do the biopsy? If it's to check for other possible problems, you don't need to go back on gluten, or if he wants to see how you're healing, you don't need to either. If he doubts the diagnosis you have to ask yourself if you yourself doubt it. Personally I wouldn't, I don't know what could explain both EMA and TTG to come back... -

ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Careful?
aikiducky replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ryan and Geoff, I just wanted to say that it's really helpful to read about your frustration because it helps me understand my husband better! I hope other women on the board will read this too. It's not uncommon here to read about a newly diagnosed celiac wondering about why their partner is reacting so seemingly unsupportively, I think it's very good to... -

ARCHIVED Bathroom Problems Every Morning
aikiducky replied to shanluts's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are your BMs more or less normal (I wouldn't except all normal all the time just yet)? I mean in consistency and so? It's quite normal to have to go in the morning, it's just part of our bodies daily rhythm. And when you eat, there's a bit more pressure inside (because you just added stuff) and that gives your bowels a signal to start working. For the... -
My list of foods to avoid is kinda long - gluten, dairy, eggs, legumes, nightshades- but as long as I do avoid those, my stomach doesn't seem to be particularly sensitive to stress or such. I can eat raw veggies as much as I can for example and not have any trouble. I've been dairy free for a long time, gluten free for two and a half years and all the rest...

I know here in Holland the recommendation is that ALL first degree relatives of a diagnosed celiac get tested just in case. Actually I know some families where the children get periodically tested (like every five years or so) just in case. The reason being exactly like you said, they might be asymptomatic, and having a celiac family member the chances are...

Happy birthday Rachel! Pauliina -
If it's already few years ago that they were tested you could ask to have them tested again. As they have a celiac relative (you), they should be tested at least every five years or so anyway, since celiac can be triggered at any age. In other words, the fact that they have tested negative once is not a guarantee that they won't test positive later in life...

I've tried pure oats, but I didn't like the taste any more! I didn't have any problems though. Pauliina -

It makes sense really, rye, barley or millet would be I'd think more expensive as sources than corn or wheat. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Egg, Soy, Casein, Corn And Gluten Allergies?
aikiducky replied to confusedks's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I can have corn but not any of the other things you list. An example of what I eat: Morning: rice cakes with nut butter and sliced meat, or rice cakes with goat cheese (which I seem to handle ok), and two pieces of fruit Lunch: almost always a huge salad with endive, carrots, iceberg, white cabbage, topped with olives and either tuna or salmon or ham,... -
If an antidepressant had gluten as filler, I could see how that could make one even more depressed instead of less. Pauliina

ARCHIVED I Dont Have Celiac, But Its Ruining My Life!
aikiducky replied to littleone's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's very hard to see a loved one ill, especially if there's no clear diagnosis. Basically, one of you is ill, and the other one is worried sick. You BOTH need support! I think what would help is finding some outside support for both of you, because right now you don't either of you have enough to give each other. It doesn't mean that you don't love... -
ARCHIVED Got Blood Test Results - No Idea What They Mean!
aikiducky replied to Lissa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Love that! And I will quote you! With such a long waiting list I would be inclined to try the diet, too. Pauliina -
I recently discovered a dairy free "milk chocolate" made with rice milk. Yummy, and first it was fine, but now they added a cross contamination warning on the package - about milk! How insane is that? Well, I figured since it was labelled dairy free that they would be pretty careful with cleaning between batches, and besides, it's the only chocolate of...

ARCHIVED Would You Persue A Biopsy?
aikiducky replied to bjshad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd say if she's already gluten free to just keep it that way. If she was still eating gluten every day I would do the biopsy while I still had the chance but it sounds like she's been gluten free enough that the results might easily be a false negative, and doing a gluten challenge doesn't sound like a good idea if she has a strong reaction to it, especially... -
ARCHIVED Officially Casien Intolerant
aikiducky replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It sounds like you're problem really is lactose. The thing that Cool Whip and a milk chocolate bar have in common is that they are relatively fatty, which slows down your digestion and gives your body more time to break down the lactose. Cheese has very very little lactose in it anyway so it's not surprising that you tolerate it. Yoghurt and pudding are things... -

How about eating your salad with a home made dressing, at least for a few days? I usually sprinkle some olive oil, lemon juice, salt and herbs on my salad. I'm sure other people have more recipes for different types of dressing. That way you avoid all the additives and stuff that bought dressings always seem to have. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Wheat In Wine?
aikiducky replied to jnclelland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you mean do I react to reds or whites, or do I drink reds or whites from the above mentioned countries? I don't remember which I've reacted to more often, but I think both. I like to drink both, though it seems to go in periods, like recently I've been mostly buying Spanish reds. Yum. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Wheat In Wine?
aikiducky replied to jnclelland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yup, wine can be clarified with casein, among other things. I'm sensitive to casein, and some wines give me a typical casein reaction. I've had good luck sticking with European wine countries, so Spanish, Italian and French wines for me. Pauliina
