Eat more protein. Gluten is a protein, and you've just cut it out of your diet... you'll feel the absence of it if you don't substitute with some other kind of protein. An egg, some tuna, a bit more meat than you used to eat. It'll keep you feeling full longer. Plus, it's not uncommon to feel hungry in the beginning, your body has been starving...

ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance As A Possibility
aikiducky replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Poop is actually for a big part made of the bacteria that live in the gut, so adding healthy bacteria would change the consistency. Lactose intolerance could also mean good and bad days, because one's body could conceivably be producing more lactose some times and less others, and the reaction also depends on the amount of lactose... but I think you... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance As A Possibility
aikiducky replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I actually agree with the doc that it's more likely the acidophilus that's working. Yes it will change consistency the bms. Lactose would be more likely to cause D some time after eating dairy, and not this pattern of alternating C and soft stools, I think. Maybe you could leave out the Lactaid but keep giving the acidophilus, and see what happens for... -
ARCHIVED Blood-related Problems
aikiducky replied to happiestgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Two months into the diet though might just not be enough time for the antibodies to go down... especially if you have been making little mistakes and getting some gluten here and there. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Public Restroom Handsoap
aikiducky replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just wash my hands with water. I thknk it's healthier anyway, doesn't dry my skin so much and it's not good to be too antiseptic.... Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Trouble With gluten-free Breads?
aikiducky replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't do potatoes too often so a lot of gluten free breads are off limits for me because of that. I do sometimes eat gluten free bread and cakes that are made with just rice and corn though. Althought I really prefer rice cakes, I must be the only person in the world who really likes them. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED Newbie Seeks An Answer
aikiducky replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm overweight as well, althought only slightly because ever since going gluten-free I've been slowly but steadily losing weight! You're not the only one! Pauliina -
ARCHIVED If The Diet Isnt Working........
aikiducky replied to Tasha2004's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is it a microwave bag of some kind of seeds that you heat up for joint or muscle pain? That could very well be filled with wheat, they often are! Pauliina -
I think it would be great to have the possibility for people to submit recommendations/warnings about restaurants, but it might be better if there was a way for people to pm you, and then you place the recommendations on the site. There wouldn't be a copyright issue I think if you had a form that was specifically for that purpose for example, one wouldn't...

I'm not in France and unlikely to visit in the near future, but I had a look at the site just out of curiosity, hope this helps: One thing I can think of is the infamous herd mentality .... if there aren't many posts in a forum, new people aren't likely to post either i suspect. It's very difficult to get a forum started unless you have something like...

ARCHIVED Please Help Me With Meaning Of My Enterolab Results
aikiducky replied to Sarah8793's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Casein is also for life. What you are thinking of is lactose intolerance, that can go away after a while when the intestines heal. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED I Cant Stand Up
aikiducky replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One thing I noticed was that it looks to me like you're not eating very much. How about just trying to eat a bit more at every meal. Two bananas instead of one in the morning? As a short term solution before you figure your diet out... Pauliina -
The IGG is also the first one to go up, so it might also mean that they do have celiac, but that the other bloods haven't gone up yet. You might want to keep an eye on any symptoms and test again in a couple years. OR just go gluten free anyway, you might be pleasantly surprised that they feel better on the diet. Pauliina

ARCHIVED Social Behavior -add, Aspergers Etc.
aikiducky replied to gfp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's definitively nothing wrong about being an introvert. And...I haven't been glutened for a long while and feel physically very well, but I'm still just as introverted as ever (which is actually not extremely, I'm apparently somewhere in the middle). Apparently the reason some people are more introvert than others is that our brains have a different... -
I love those savory bisquits, too! Next time I'm in England I'm going to save half my suitcase for them, I swear! :D Pauliina

ARCHIVED Bread Machine - Cc Issues?
aikiducky replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think switching an old bread machine to only gluten free would work, but going back and forth gluten free and not gluten free would continue to be risky. I wouldn't do it. I mean, every once in a while you would be bound to overlook a speck of flour on it and get sick...I just would not feel comfortable doing that. Pauliina -

aikiducky replied to gfp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gfp, this is a very interesting thread, thank you for starting it! You know, I can understand some of the more heated discussions you've been involved in here much better now! 2kids4me, this was so sweet! It brought tears to my eyes. Ursula, you know I'm always impressed at how nicely you're able to explain your way of thinking here on... -
ARCHIVED Doubting Dr. Thomas
aikiducky replied to L.A.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're right, gluten intolerance means exactly the same diet-wise as celiac, and you need to exactly as careful about cross-contamination, too. "Celiac" is a name that the doc gives to a disease when all the symptoms and test results are present that the medical community has agreed on have to be there. So when the test results and symptoms aren't exactly... -
ARCHIVED Glutened Myself Now What?
aikiducky replied to Gwendolene's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You did gluten yourself quite thoroughly in the last month it seems! That might mean that it takes a while before you're fully recovered again, easily a few weeks. My reaction can last up to three weeks, and if i get glutened in that period, of course it then takes longer. Pauliina -
ARCHIVED I Did A Goats Milk Challenge - Hooray!
aikiducky replied to aikiducky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've tried goats milk as well but then the problem is that it's easily too much lactose for me. I don't mind the taste actually as long as it's in a food with other ingredients, or with cereal even. I wouldn't drink it straight though! Anyway, I don't really need a milk substitute for anything else, I'm just happy about the cheese! Pauliina -
Good for you Matilda! I'm sure you'll enjoy your holiday without alcohol, too! Pauliina rooting in Holland

ARCHIVED I Did A Goats Milk Challenge - Hooray!
aikiducky posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As it happened, I was not eating any goat's cheese for nearly four weeks. Goats cheese is the only form of dairy I still have been eating, I can't look at cow's milk without getting glutening-like symptoms. Anyway, I re-introduced the goats cheese a few days ago, and I don't feel any different! Woohoo! It was a coincidence that I hadn't eaten it... -
Open Original Shared Link Here's one link about homeopathy and the theory of miasms that my friend was talking about. There seems to be a list of links at the bottom, too, for those who really want to do research. I could follow the explanation and I'm not knowledgeable about homeopathy at all, so I thought this would be a good start. At least...
