  1. I am so happy that you brought this to their attention and they listened. It may be tough for a teen to adjust, but it is just so much better health wise. If you have to live with celiac, It is better to know then not to know . I feel this is true having had 30+ years undiagnosed. Your niece has a good chance to recover when gluten free. .
  2. Diana - Parasite?! Yikes. If you don't mind my asking, what symptoms did your son have? Failure to grow (off the chart in weight and height) at 9 years. Chronic infection in ear. (This may have lowered resistance rather than been due to the parasite) Ferocious appetite! Diarrhea would be a symptom, but he didn't have it.. He ended up needing...
  3. Make sure to have plenty of good fats. I have coconut, olive oil, or butter. I have about 1 Tbsp 3 times a day. This helps you feel full and stay full longer. Still, your body just may need time to adjust. Diana
  4. I have noticed this. I feel to weary to maintain eye contact, especially it is hard to just stand around and talk, or do work and go back and forth with the eyes. I have always been more comfortable working as I talked or writing. I think this has improved at times it is even easy. But I don't think I am through with it completely. Anyone have trouble...
  5. Hi Amy, Other reasons for villi problems are possible. One of my sons had Giarrdia which damage the villi. This is a parasite. Still with your improvement gluten free; you probably conclude that gluten free is the way for you to go. Diana
  6. Sorry, for your extreme fatigue and hope you will soon be on the mend. I sent you a private message. Diana
  7. My withdrawal lasted at least 3 months. I think it kept extending when I continuously removed other foods that were causing problems. I also had cross contamination and silly mistakes. I did have some better days during those few months, but did feel like death was coming, or like I needed to start all over again, on the bad days. I discovered, during...
  8. Hi Scarletgrrr, I hope you get some definitive answers and you make it through to the other side to avoiding gluten.. I can relate to that long term feeling that you were not absorbing your food. My husband and I wondered if I was getting anything from my food, or just from my supplements. Every time I would run out of a supplement I seemed to go off...
  9. About a year ago I opted for genetic testing. I had cut out gluten a couple of months before on my own. I didn't feel I could ever eat gluten again, no matter what the cost. I took a swab of the inside of my cheeks and mailed it to a lab. My results came back totally positive. I took this to my MD hoping she would discredit the test somehow. She...
  10. I hope you will soon be there and beyond! You've started to walk and I would encourage you to keep walking! Diana
  11. I just spent an 1 1/2 revising my dentist blog to have it disappear with a message about not being able to post it with this file extension. Huh? Okay, so it's gone!
  12. I didn't opt for endoscopy. My MD said it was not necessary for me. I was diagnosed with symptoms (I looked 5 months pregnant) and had an overwhelmingly positive genetic test for celiac. I also had a positive response to the gluten free diet. I have since realized I had intestinal damaged by use of nutrition evaluation. This gave me the added plus of...
  13. Hi, I hope you are well, or are becoming so.

  14. Last May I joined the forum and I had gone gluten free a couple of months before. I suffered 30+ years and have tried many things to cope with undiagnosed celiac. Now, I know what enemy I am facing, so I can cope much better. I am no longer tired all of the time. I don't wake up as tired as I was before retiring anymore. I don't always need a nap. Thinking...
  15. I agree with the idea that negative symptoms can be a very good thing! What better could keep us from eating gluten? I hope you are doing well. Diana
  16. Hi, Welcome to the Forum. I am a mama too, but not cool! Get and stay well, Please, Diana

  17. It's good for you, but I still can't post my draft. I am afraid to try messing with the post that I stored elsewhere, but maybe I should try again?
  18. I have had mysterious swollen tongue. It does seem connected to foods I am intolerant of. I think I know now, that gluten had been causing my whole body to swell, so a little swelling here or there doesn't alarm me too much. I have been tested for true allergies, but do not have them. I do try to figure out a cause when I feel my tongue swollen. The...
  19. Greetings Glutey, I hope all continues going well for you! Diana
  20. IF I understand correctly from my Functional Medicine Practitioner: The villi of the small intestine tell the pancreas to fire. If they are damaged; they can become unable to function. (Mine were) The body has trouble breaking down food. Therefore, I am taking Enzymes that help me break down the food. I was told that the villi damage is reversible...
  21. I inquired of my Osteopathic/Functional Medicine doctor whether I should try aloe vera for my son's intestinal damage. He said it was too astringent. For myself I have decided to take a small amount. It has helped me heal so many ailments. I decided that I would be able to tell if it were too astringent for me. I haven't had any noticeable problem...
  22. Oh, I felt over-all happy for you with that! Now, you are getting somewhere. I hope any damage will heal quickly and well. Diana
  23. Just my own thoughts: Try water or coconut water for beverage. I wonder if lemonade could be irritating, ever spilled lemon juice on a cut? I had some pain, but nothing like you describe. Ouch!
  24. My diagnosis was made by, an absolutely positive genetic test, my list of responses to the diet, and the exam when I presented to the MD. I looked 5 months pregnant just after starting gluten free. Further proof has since appeared such as from a nutrient absorption test. This showed evidence of mal absorption and extreme stress on the body. I had eczema...
