ARCHIVED More Help For A Newbie
jkmunchkin replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately like the others have said, the nurse was mistaken. There are no degrees of celiac. While yes some of us may get more or less sick (or not sick at all) when accidentally ingesting gluten; regardless of your reaction you need to be 100% gluten free all the time. It may seem very overwhelming right now but you will quickly learn which brands... -

jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I totally thought of you the whole time I was there!! The other night I thought about getting take out from PF Chang's but then the thought of parking, getting through the mall and then paying $3 for parking... I just wasn't in the mood (and then ofcourse there is the potential I will buy something while I'm at the mall - lol). I could def' go for another... -

I second San-J. -
Every so often I go on www.glutenfreerestaurants.org which list restauarants throughout the country that participate in the gluten-free restaurant program. Needless to say the people that run this are based in Westchester, NY so I think NY has the most restaurants listed (which bodes well for me). The other day I noticed they added Ray's Cafe, a chinese...

I know Sam's Club is not gluten-free. Do you have a Boston Market near you? -
The only one of all of these I take is medication for my thryoid. I am on Sythroid. We adjust my dosage every so often. Right now I am on .075mg (I think that's it anyway). I took Ambien once because I wanted to potentially take it the night before my wedding, so I took it to experiment. While I slept great and woke up feeling rested everyone said it made...

So glad I could help Outback is really great. I mean I've never been to Australia (although I've heard it's incredible), so I don't know if it would be like someone from France coming to NY and eating at a French restaurant... but hey I think it's worth it. LOL!! You can definately find Boar's Head coldcuts in most deli and supermarkets. It's... -
ARCHIVED Help Moving To A New State
jkmunchkin replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Stop & Shop has a fair amount of gluten free specialty foods. They have a natural / healthy foods section usually near the produce. They stock Tinkyada pasta, some Gluten Free Pantry Mixes, some gluten free cereals, gluten free waffles, Amy's meals, Pamela's cookies, Midel cookies, Mrs. Leepers, Pacific soups and gravies, San J Wheat Free Soy Sauce. And... -

ARCHIVED Doritos?
jkmunchkin replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The regular nacho cheese ones are not gluten free, however they have a version of the nacho cheese ones called Rollitos, and those are gluten free. Why as a flat chip they are not and rolled up they are I have no idea but they are. I can never find them in the supermarket but I have found them in Walmart (or was it Kmart). -

Don't hold out for grits in NY. I actually thought that was a made up thing until I was in FL on vacation. LOL!! Not to say you can't find it in NY (you can find anything in NY) but it's definately not popular. However we have lots of great gluten-free restaurants (or restaurants with gluten-free menus). My 2 favorites are Risotteria (which has great gluten... -

ARCHIVED Need Info Urgently!
jkmunchkin replied to Estelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in NY so I can't be all that helpful as far as CA. However there are several chain restaurants that have gluten free menus here, including PF Changs (as someone mentioned), Outback and Legal Seafoods. Not sure about in California, but I know in NY I am able to find gluten-free pasta in Stop & Shop, which is a normal supermarket. The brand of... -

Ok this is kinda freaky you posted this because I meant to the other day, but I've been so busy this week I just kept forgetting. But I was wondering the same thing, especially since they sell it in our cafeteria at work and I always want to try it. -
ARCHIVED Pls Help Me Find Old Thread On Nyc Restaurants
jkmunchkin replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ok so ofcourse you know Rissotteria is a must! You also have to go to Lumi (I'll be there April 1st for a birthday dinner). Those are my 2 favorites in the city. I've heard Peter's is good but haven't tried it yet myself. Same thing with Babycakes. (And as someone said NY Mag just voted them best cupcakes in NYC). Oh and just so you know, if... -
A friend of mine told me there is gluten-free matzoh. It's a friend who's friend also has celiac and she was going to get the brand for me. When I find out the brand I will let you know.

ARCHIVED What Lipstick Do You Use?
jkmunchkin replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For liner I use either Stripdown or Spice. The lipstick I use is Xpose and then for gloss I use their Lipglass. I can't remember the name of the color but the rep on the phone said all lipglass is fine. To be honest, I don't pay for most of my makeup, or if I do pay, it's very little. One of the perks of where I work. So far I haven't had any problems... -
ARCHIVED What Lipstick Do You Use?
jkmunchkin replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use mostly MAC. I checked the colors I use and they are all fine. Sometimes I forget about the lipstick thing and I'll grab a new color I like and then realize I need to check it out. But so far I haven't had any problems with makeup. -
ARCHIVED New Cocoa Puffs
jkmunchkin replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
YAY!!!! I love that you took pics. This was my favorite cereal when I was a kid. My grandma would play "the birdy game" with me every morning with my Cocoa Puffs to feed me breakfast. -
The address is 963 Lexington Avenue. They are on the corner of Lexington and 71st street. It's only a few blocks from the 4,5,6 train which makes it really easy to get to.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Birth Control Pill
jkmunchkin replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am on Alesse. I've been on it for 10+ years and never had a problem. My sister is on the patch and we were just having this conversation the other day that she said she wants to switch because she is not that comfortable with it especially with a new article practically everyday about all the side effects like blood clots. One of my good friends uses... -
I have eaten at Sambuca several times pre-dx and always loved it. When I was first diagnosed and found out they had a gluten-free menu I was so psyched. I actually have yet to go there since being diagnosed but I will.
