  1. My favorites were Goldie Hawn and the telephone operator (I thought you name was Ernestine).
  2. Not being bedridden anymore (prior to diagnosis). Not taking each day for granted. Chebe. Gluten free Pantry mixes. Learning to mostly enjoy cooking. Everything tastes better. Tinkiyada pasta. I am very thankful to Patti for all of her help in teaching me how to bake some delicious things that even my gluten eating husband loves to eat...
  3. All the food we have to throw away (especially in the beginning) because it is just plain awful. I am having a Longaberger basket party tonight and everything is gluten free and it cost me $$$$ to prepare and MANY hours in the kitchen. Most of my friends have no concept ot the cost or time of this diet.
  4. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. My toy poodle and I have the same birth date BUT, many, many years apart. I had a wonderful morning and a huge nap in the afternoon. Lisa really got people wondering about my ride to the prison. 6 of us rode bides down to the Florence, AZ prison GIFT SHOP. They sell these neat purses that are made out of...
  5. I ate fast food when I was out running errands or too tired to cook. Then I would have hubby stop by McDonalds for burgers. So, not doing that anymore has not been a big deal for me. I do eat out several times a month and usually with friends. They all know that I give them a couple of restaurant suggestions and they can choose which one. I dine where...
  6. My rheumy told me I was just barely on the charts and put me on 50,000 units twice weekly for several weeks ( I don't remember how many weeks it was). When he retested me and I was in the normal range, he then put me on 1000 units every day, which I still take. And I live in Arizona, where sunshine is plentiful.
  7. I don't eat at buffets. I stay at the Mirage and eat there. You might try PMing broncobux, who lives in Las Vegas and will give you advice about how to eat safely at a buffet. Also you can bring snacks and request a frig in your room, because of health problems. I always get a frig and bring my own muffins to eat while I have my coffee in the morning...
  8. To me it sounds like Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance. They both require being totally gluten free. As far as going to a doctor for the test, you have to be consuming gluten for a long while. You can also get a false negative on the blood test, but never a false positive. I don't know if you want to consume gluten and make yourself really sick to...
  9. Oh, Lynne, I can not believe that I missed this. I hope your birthday was a very HAPPY one and that everyone made the day extra special. HUGS.
  10. That is great news that the operation went so well. It is also wonderful that her lungs have improved by her quiting smoking. Keep us updated. Hugs to you and your Mom. May her recovery be a speedy one.
  11. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY. I hope it was a great one.
  12. Do what I do. I take in print outs to eduacate my GP. Only print the improtant facts as they can get too much info and not read it. Since my GP diagnosed me with celiac disease, he has now diagnosed more then 60 patients with the disease. He is still testing many that come in. He now knows that not all Celiacs' become the classic Celiac plus many other...
  13. That was so interesting. Thanks for sharing.
  14. There is a link between Celiac Disease and a certain type of thyroid cancer. I don't remember what the cancer is called. The average time of onset for the thyroid cancer is 6 years after the Celiac diagnosis. I forget the exact percentage of this type of cancer in a Celiac, but I think it was in the mid to high 20%'s. A Celiac should have their thyroid...
  15. I was diagnosed with essential tremors about 8 years ago. Diagnosed with Celiac 3 years ago. My Mother who I believe was an undiagnosed Celiac also had essential tremors. I have them bad and take a drug at bedtime that mostly controls them. Though at the end of the afternoon, I cannot not sign my name to a check. I have gone back to printing everything...
  16. Any corn product causes my asthma to sky rocket and it lasts for days. Everything that had any corn in it was given away. Tonight we are going to PF Changs for dinner with a friend. The chef always thickens my gluten-free dish with potatoe starch. When I first found out my reaction to corn, I had no idea that it was in so much and really had no idea...
  17. I gave this article to my GP. Because TB is definately on the upswing, he wants me tested in the next couple of weeks and once a year thereafter. I had another appt. after him and was unable to do it then. I did not think of myself when I gave him the article and I got caught in a web as I feed him Celiac information that I think he needs to know. Also...
  18. Hey Rusla. You need to go for it. Like Lisa said "you only go around once". I also love Victoria, but alas the Northwest dampness really bothers me. And I am from Seattle. Find any job to get you there and then worry about the perfect job. It is doable. Good luck.
  19. I am so sorry that you are so sick. Before I got my diagnosis of Celiac, I lost 53 pounds and was bed ridden the last month. Went into dehydration for nine days. It took me 3 days of trying to sip pedialyte, before I stopped throwing it up. darlindeb gave you good advice to take pedialyte. I could not take the generic and could only keep the name brand...
  20. I have never eaten at the restaurant you mentioned. I go to Tempe and eat at Picazzo's Gourmet pizza, which is on Warner, just West of Rural. They have regular pizza and gluten-free pizza. You might try to get everyone to switch to Picazzo's. They also have gluten-free beer. Their gluten free menu is wonderful.
  21. I am glad that you have noticed such a change. I would definately stay gluten-free, especially since your aunt was diagnosed with Celiac. You can have a false negative on the blood test, but not a false positive. The diet sometimes is the answer for Celiac disease or gluten intolerant. Keep up the good work and the changes will keep coming. Each...
  22. What absolutely great news about Megan. I also wish I lived closer as I would certainly attend such a momentous day. My granddaughter who lives with us, was born 16 weeks early and weighed 1#, 10oz. She is now 19 and perfectly healthy. I tell you this so that you know how far medicine has come with high risk preemies. My prayers are with the new little...
  23. A doctor member of this forum suggested Metanx, which is a RX vitamin. I have complained for three years that my energy has not returned to my pre-sickness days. I used to live most days in my pajamas. Since I have started the Metanx, I cannot believe the difference. I do house chores every day, make my bed, get dressed every day and even go to some functions...
  24. I emailed her and she did not answer. She always emails me after I send her a real cute joke and I have not heard from her in a long time. That is not like her at all. I do not have her phone number or I would call her. Maybe someone else has her phone number and will call.
  25. Happy birthday Carrie. Thank you for all the wonderful contributions that you make to this forum. May this day be as special as you are.
