  1. Jenny, I just wanted to welcome you to the board! It sounds like you are going through a rough time with your health difficulties. I hope you can find some answers. It might be worth it to find another doctor, or do allergy testing through an allergist, or something. Breathing problems are serious and I would hate for something *else* to be going...
  2. But, if the treatment is the same, you are living the same life as 'diagnosed Celiacs'---so you fall among a good amount of people on this board who aren't official or don't have "true" Celiac. You are no less important! The forum is called glutenfreeforum.com, not celiacsonly.com Plus, and something that I think is important to remember---for all...
  3. I would try a two-tiered approach: 1. Stop eating out entirely. (I know, no fun). Only eat food prepared by you. See if this "solves" the problem. (I no longer eat out at all, as the only times I were being glutened were then....I finally had to put my foot down and stop it, because I have severe reactions.) 2. If Step 1 does not eliminate your symptoms...
  4. It would probably help if I list the link, right? This list includes a LOT of companies, including companies that own other brands. Unilever owns a ton of things, for example. This covers a really good array of companies, and it makes my life so much easier. Open Original Shared Link
  5. You are intolerant to gluten, and you get sick when you eat it. You avoid it because it makes you feel better and got rid of the problems you were having. If they ask if its Celiac, you can say, its very similar to it
  6. Welcome to both LadyBoss and Cuervo Some brands of things that I particularly love (and I have tried a large amount of gluten-free products, and thrown a ton of them out) Tinkyada pasta (rice based). Comes in all size/shapes/etc. Find them at some grocery stores, health food stores, online. Use it in place of any pasta recipe (I make a delicious...
  7. The food labeling law was passed in 2004 and took effect for foods labelled after Jan 1, 2006, but many companies started before that (i.e., that is why over a year elapsed in between passing and law, to give the companies time to learn and comply). Yes, any amount of any of the 8 main allergens must be disclosed, which, like you mentioned, includes...
  8. Dairy queen, I second what MG noted. Both are very unsafe for Celiacs. Not having an overt reaction does not mean that the autoimmune reaction is not occuring. Something to think about: If normal beers were gluten free, why would Anheuiser Busch, a company that makes many normal beers, feel the need to make a separate gluten free beer? If they...
  9. I'm the same. xoxo
  10. Carla, how much O are you on, by the way?
  11. You asked for opinions. You are obviously in the right place as we all have them in regards to gluten! Yes, your doctor should have run the full Celiac panel. Ask him point blank why he didn't? The tests are: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies...
  12. I think that a roller coaster ride is very applicable to many people's experiences with the gluten-free diet and their health. It can take a long time to heal, so you never know what will happen. Plus, throw in an accidental glutening here and there, and its hard to heal. But, it can be completely normal to have the ups and downs for seemingly no reason...
  13. Ash, Go for it! Celiac per se will not disqualify you at all. However, if you have something like Margaret mentioned, being anemic, or for some, if they aren't a certain weight...i.e., things that are a "side effect" of Celiac. But Celiac itself is not a problem! Thanks for doing it....I wish I could (don't weigh enough). Laura
  14. Rinne---it was good to see you----we think about you a lot. Post whenever you can. Rachel, you are particularly full of scientificness lately...I was thinking about something a guy I met at my Dr's yesterday said. I mentioned how I have food problems. He asked if I had chemical problems, since it was common among people with LD. I said I very mildly...
  15. I'm actually pretty sure its not a glitch, it was set up on purpose to prevent advertising, selling, spamming, etc. But, then it can be unhelpful for those who have a legitamite question answered. (that's just my understanding...maybe a more sr. veteran will pipe up?)
  16. Agreed---it is NOT gluten free. Its gluten lite. Which---does us no good. I have heard good things about the two that Mango suggested.
  17. Nope, don't mind at all, Judy. It is now listed under the "health" section though...moved from the front page.
  18. I think we owe a lot of it to Heidi Collins, the CNN anchor who has Celiac and is a spokeperson for Celiac awareness. I'll take it however I can!
  19. Sandy, I'm happy you checked out the persky farms site---It is wonderful! I felt confident that they really know about the various forms of MC like "we" here at celiac.com know about Celiac. They are the best resources for finding your food triggers. Just a note, about the rice. Most rice is enriched with corn by products (it doesn't necessarily...
  20. Celiac is on CNN.com! It is listed at the top, under "latest news" The headline is "Bread, Pizza can threaten the life of mother, son" It is a great video under "Health Minute: Celiac Disease" Dr. Cynthia Rudert, a top Celiac doctor in Atlanta, is interviewed as well. Check it out!
  21. Thanks for sharing, Jacqui!
  22. Thanks, Andrea. You are always so thoughtful and it really means a lot to me. I don't know if this has been posted before, but here it is...for some reason it was really fitting for me tonight and made me cry. Esp when they talk about all the food issues....Open Original Shared Link xoxo
  23. If your doctor is not interested in running the tests, I would find another doctor who is open to it. Make sure the run the FULL Celiac panel.
  24. Omnicef is a pretty serious antibiotic.....and expensive, at that!
