  1. Thanks for sharing all these dining options up here!
  2. Made at home? From a restaurant? Doesn't fried rice usually have soy sauce in it? Clarify some more, and I'm sure someone will chime in.
  3. runnerjen: I wish there was an easy answer for you on this one. I would try to stick with it some more. Your bloodwork indicates a problem with gluten, whether it is Celiac or not, its hard to say. But Celiac damage can be patchy, so your biopsies do not rule out Celiac. Are you eating out at all? Are you careful with cross contamination at home...
  4. I don't have any personal experience with him, but have heard of Dr. Leo Galland in NYC, who deals with food issues and other more 'holistic' realms. We have some NYC'ers on this board...maybe they will have some ideas?
  5. sorry---it double posted----so I deleted. xoxo
  6. Lisa, Thanks so much for sharing this...I hadn't seen or heard anything about this! Eric and I watched it....I think she did a wonderful job. Every little bit helps! Everytime I hear her story though, my heart hurts for her. I am so happy she finally found an answer. Laura
  7. I disagree about the age....it doesn't matter as much about the age as the amount of gluten being eaten and for the amount of time. Very young children can have serious damage. We are all equal opportunity damaged He may be non-Celiac gluten intolerant.
  8. Chris: Did you check the ingredients of the meat? When I ate there when I lived in Auburn (2005), the roast beef (down there, at the time, who knows now) had wheat in it. I'd be interested if it still did. I did successfully eat there a few times with meats that were safe, and had a similar experience as you did...it was very nice! Laura
  9. The EMA is just as important as the tTG. Dr. Green advises against only using the tTG or only the EMA, as they could miss Celiac cases.
  10. Cassidy: To my knowledge, Dr. Fine is the only one who recognizes the gluten sensitive genes. So yes, I would definitely say it is controversial in that we just don't know enough. I see it two ways---there are multiple genes linked to multiple foods (milk, soy, eggs, etc) that we don't know about, or there aren't genes. I don't really know what to think...
  11. McCormick's taco seasonings are gluten free, and they state that they will clearly list any and all gluten ingredients, so you can feel comfortable interpreting their labels. Laura
  12. You need to have the full panel of tests run. Many doctors don't recognize that there are more than two tests. Call your doctor and tell him you want to come in for the full panel. AGA IgA AGA IgG EMA tTG total serum IgA You had the ones in italics done. This is why a panel should be done....there isn't one test that is perfect.
  13. Hey Lisa, I don't know much about H. pylori other than it is the cause of ulcers, and that I have been tested for it repeatedly and don't have it. That's about it. It certainly could just be the stomach pain is due to her anxiety levels..... Keep us updated, ok? xoxo

    ARCHIVED Uncertainty

There are many Celiacs that are referred to as "asymptomatic" or "silent" Celiacs. You do not need symptoms to be a Celiac.
  15. Crystal, Celiac is often referred to as a medical chameleon because the presentation of symptoms varies so much from person to person, often things that contradict each other (D vs. constipation, weight loss vs. weight gain, etc). Which blood tests did you have run, and which were positive? You will find many people on this board who have had...
  16. You had a positive tTG test (which is a highly indicative marker for Celiac), a positive response to the diet, and a positive gene test. Celiac is a very patchy disease. The damage could easily be missed. Your whole intestine isn't damaged...so for some people, its trying to find a needle in the haystack! I am assuming you were eating normal amount...
  17. ES- Since this was the 11oclock news, I'm assuming this was a local station? Where was this on? Great that it was! The first week that Katie Couric started, they did a piece on the CBS (National) Evening News about Celiac. It is great to see this getting more press! Thanks for taking the time to share! Laura
  18. We eat pretty normal.....let me give you an example of meals from the past few days: (Today---all naturally gluten free) Dinner: Perdue Oven Stuffer Roaster with seasonings, brocoli Using the broth and extra chicken, with a bag of frozen veggies, to make easy easy homemade soup . Lunch: Lunchmeat with cheese and mayo, rolled up. Soda...
  19. Cassidy: Important to note that there really isn't a lot of research linking dr. fine's "gluten sensitive" genes to anything. Wht I'm interested in---do all people with some sort of allergic response have a "gene" for it? If not (which I've never heard of), then why are there ones for gluten (supposedly)? Laura
