  1. It is designated fast track because there are no other "cures" or "remedies" for Celiac. Any disease that doesn't have a cure, and has promising research, would be eligibile fast track status. And by fast track, it still means years.... One of Dr. Fassano's first publications on zonulin (which is part of the premise behind the drug) was in 2001...(Open...
  2. sweetfudge-if you are a biopsy proven celiac and want to register for their clinical trials, you can go to their website www.albatherapeutics.com. It is exciting! Hearing him speak in person and really understanding it gave me a lot of hope.
  3. Thanks for posting. I have heard Dr. Patterson speak and am so impressed with their research. Thanks for the update, Steve! Laura
  4. Kerissa, I'm so sorry to hear of your struggle. You poor thing. Hopefully some of the information on here will help you. Through some testing, but mostly an elimination diet, I discovered that all of my recent problems (had been gluten-free for 1.5 years before "new" problems started) are related to food. I cannot tolerate dairy, soy, eggs, and corn...
  5. Taco Bell in our house is referred to as "Taco Hell"....seems pretty fitting for us Celiacs! (but, my guilty secret is that a few times a year, i have something awful of a craving for taco hell. most of the time, the thought of it makes me want to barf. but....every so often, it seems like heaven)
  6. After being gluten-free for 1.5 years, I began getting sicker and sicker (out of the blue). Nausea was a main symptom for me (along with severe fatigue, stomach pains, D, and weight loss). Drs checked it all...follow up blood work, small bowel x-ray, endoscopy, colonoscopy...told me nothing was wrong. It turns out that I am now intolerant to other foods...

    ARCHIVED A-m-e-...?

Okay, I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but THANK YOU for posting that! That just had me laughing OUT LOUD at my desk at work. It also makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who has had these "classic" moments with medical professionals. Sigh. Good luck!
  8. Matilda, I'm actually in a very similar place to you right now! (Unfortunately for both of us!) I have gone through a similar process....I'll PM you later this morning. Good luck, dear! Laura

    ARCHIVED Dove?

Just last week I spoke to a Dove representative. They will clearly state any of the 8 main allergens; like others have said, they will not hide gluten, which is great! However, for those with multiple issues (particularly corn)---they were not particularly helpful. They said that because it is proprietary, they do not disclose if there are other allergens...
  10. ok, good, i thought maybe i was the only one! speaking of that, since I just accepted a new JOB (a great one at that!) and moving, i need to schedule a hair app't so I 'look my best' but just a cut...don't want to risk a big change that could be a disaster. try explaining that one to a new boss....("Well, it wasn't supposed to look like this"...
  11. ciglee, oh, dear. it is not childish at all. AT ALL. you are going to want to laugh, cry, not feel anything...you'll be grateful, ungrateful...happy and mad... point is, it is normal to feel a range of emotions, including conflicting ones. everyone has their own process...it is a personal journey. there is a steep learning curve for the diet, but...
  12. I'm the exact opposite of you ladies!!!! I love having my hair played with, my head massaged, etc etc. When I was a little girl my mom used to "play with my hair" which involved me sitting next to her and her running her fingers through my hair (like a brush). It was so calming and I still love having it done. My husband even "plays with my hair" when...
  13. Chicken salad used to be one of my favorites!!!!! (I can't eat it anymore due to other intolerances) I like mine a little bit more "processed" so I run mine through the food processor briefly, but you certainlydon't have to do that. Cube 1 lb chx, cook on stovetop with olive oil, salt, pepper (and I often put in a small amount of lemon pepper seasoning...
  14. Carrie, That is great news....good to know that your body has healed AND that you are feeling better. What a blessing! Congrats, girl! Laura

    ARCHIVED Gi Doctors

Barbara, Welcome to the site! We are happy to have you here, although it is under less than ideal circumstances. I graduated from Auburn in 2005 and had a less than stellar GI, as well. Unfortunately, there are many doctors who just don't know enough about it. Luckily, there are some great ones out there. I swear that there is a doc at UAB that was involved...
  16. A lot of the suggestions are already on the corresponding celiac.com....maybe we could incorporate referring members with questions (after we answer them) to many of Scott's notes, lists, q/a's on his website. I have found some of my most useful information there and think it is a great resource that we sometimes don't tap into and direct newbies (and others...
  17. There are ranch, as well as other dressings, that are not gluten free. Anything and everything can have gluten in it, honestly....even if it doesn't make sense to us! It is the joy of processed food. #1 rule is to assume that everything has gluten in it, then find the ones that are safe. I believe some of the Newman's Own and Hellman's are safe (but...
  18. I second the advice for "killz"...my mom swears by that stuff for numerous projects. happy you are ok, gfp!
  19. Nicole, that really is great news! You must be so relieved! I remember your post from before about MS so I'm happy that it is "just" this. My grandmother-in-law has gotten the shots for years...it REALLY helps her a ton. In fact, she had gone off them for a few years (just by chance...just got busy and never went back)....started developing a lot of problems...
  20. Kathy- Whey is not safe for the casein intolerant. Laura
  21. Happy Birthday, Fiddle-Faddle! I'm chugging right behind yall at a big ol' 25!!!!!!!! I'm happy there are lots of us in the same 'phase'
  22. Norah, I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering, still, from migraines. They are the most painful things! Mine have decreased in frequency since going gluten free, but that obviously (or yet!) isn't helping you. Do you have a prescription for migraines? I've heard that some of the new drugs are very helpful. Also, do you know (or think?) you might have...
  23. Evie, Hope you had a great birthday!!! As someone who is still struggling for answers, it is encouraging to see a positive post. Happy to hear you are doing so well! xoxo, Laura
  24. Marcia, I am so happy for you! It is a breath of fresh air to read your great, encouraging words of improvement. Before my diagnosis, I was in bed nearly every day for the last two months pre-dx. Couldn't do anything because of the joint pain and even if I could, the fatigue and bathroom issues kept me at home. Had to drop out of the PhD program I was...
  25. Ricco--- Welcome to the board! We are happy to have you join us, no matter where you are from! Unfortunately, Celiac is a worldwide problem. I think your English is wonderful! Would be interested in hearing how you were diagnosed (and how the health systems are similar/different across nations). Let us know if we can help in any way! Laura
