I don't have it....maybe try hitting up the local library and scanning it there? Hope you get your hands on it, Deb. -
ARCHIVED Gi Doctor Visit
happygirl replied to sillyyak's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
FYI: Dr. Green's book, Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic has a write up about things to consider: assessment of nutrional deficiencies (to check for things like iron, folic acid, vitamin B12) "adults patients should have a bone density test, and if osteoporosis or osteopenia are present, should have their parathyroid hormone, calcium, and vitamin... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab
happygirl replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was dx with Celiac through more "traditional" methods...but after being healthy going gluten-free, I developed other health problems that doctors could not identify. I ordered the full enterolab panel and felt that it was very helpful. I am still in the process of discovering my other food 'issues' but it was a great start. I would recommend them,... -
ARCHIVED Found A Great Gluten Free Company!
happygirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found a great company that makes seasoning packets for meals and/or dips. They are called Cali Fine Foods (www.califinefoods.com). They make seasonings that say they are for "dips, maridandes, meats, vegatables, pasta, rice and more"....gluten free, casein free, yeast free, no msg...etc. I had corresponded with the owner, Judy, who has a Celiac son.... -
ARCHIVED 12 Weeks Of Hell
happygirl replied to Chris E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chris, Welcome to the board. I am sorry to hear that your health is not doing so well! How frustrating for you. It is good that you are getting an endoscopy. Here are a couple pieces of advice that I 'wish' I had known during my diagnosis/search for my problem: If you are having an endoscopy done, make sure that you are still eating gluten! If... -

Chelsea-- I will be sorry to see you go as well. But, I don't blame you. I think there needs to be a re-focus of the board. I hope that you'll be back....we need to make sure that those with experience stick around to offer REAL, EDUCATED knowledge to newbies. That's why I'm still here...to provide info that I wish I had known originally. I agree with... -
ARCHIVED Mechanisms Behind The Leaky Gut
happygirl replied to mle-ii's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Mike- You are on the colitis board, right? I thought I remembered your picture and your posts. I had posted there and will probably be going back....tested negative for colitis but tested positive (via enterolab and modified elimination diet) for soy, casein, eggs, and corn. I am Dr. Fassano's #1 fan. Love the man. Heard his partner at Alba Therapeutics... -
ARCHIVED Is This Where I Ask?
happygirl replied to Adelle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor is WRONG. Unfortunately, many doctors (including GIs!) are horribly mis-educated about Celiac. Your blood tests WILL be affected if you are eating gluten/not eating gluten. If you have Celiac, and are eating gluten, then you (should) have positive antibodies. If you are a Celiac and are NOT eating gluten, you should NOT have gluten antibodies... -

Lynne, sorry to hear that you are going through this. Please keep us updated on Ashley's journey. xoxo -
Did you read the ingredients? If you don't know 100% what is in something AND how it was prepared, you have every reason to eat in fear....that is scary to me! When in doubt, go without. I know it is tough and it gets tiring. And boring. And frustrating. And all those other conflicting emotions. But your fear WILL go away when you are truly eating ...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question
happygirl replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ditto the above two posts. I def thought it was overkill. But, I am extremely sensitive and learned. Gluten is gluten is gluten. Think of it like rat poison (numerous people on this board have posted this example, including Carla, and it helps me remember). Would you dip your knife in butter that had touched rat poison, even potentially? It is a personal... -

She thinks it would be a good idea for me to go and hear the speakers and get some hope I haven't booked yet, but I'll let you know when I do. It woud be great to see you in person! Laura -
ARCHIVED Mechanisms Behind The Leaky Gut
happygirl replied to mle-ii's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
hey mike---looks great! thanks for the link. i am currently trying to find a doctor who has a clue about leaky gut, actually! -
Amy, Great news about your potential dietician! That is very encouraging. Make sure you post about it so that if others in your area join the board, and search for a dietician, they will know who to go to! Laura
-
Amy, Just to warn you, very few dieticians are fully versed in Celiac-world. Usually the main reason that they are knowledgable is if they have other (educated!) patients who have taught them. My appointment was horrible, left me in tears, because she was clueless and presented MISINFORMATION. How frustrating. So whatever she doesn't answer....we...

Amy, Welcome to the board! You have certainly come to the right place for information and support. You will find this site provides much more accurate and useful information than many doctors and nutritionists. Just remember that no question is too strange, silly, or gross! We've all been there and are happy to help. Many people on this board have...

Boston Legal, PF Chang's, Outback all have gluten-free menus and are in DC/Northern Va. Austin Grill is a local chain that has a gluten-free menu. (they have a website, try searching for it). Do a search on the site...there have been other postings about DC. There is a list circulating somewhere (maybe that was from a local group, I think?) that has...
