  1. Hmmm... I found this: Open Original Shared Link It lists Glucoamylase (Maltase); Sucrase-Isomaltase; Lactase; and Peptidases. I can't help about products, as I have been curious but haven't tried any. If you don't mind my asking, what enzymes did you use and what benefits did you experience? Thanks for posting this, I'm wondering if I've got...
  2. Double Amen! So here's the update. Thank goodness our info was wrong about the CT scan -- it was negative. Don't know if the receptionist said something wrong or my brother misunderstood her, but we thought it was something really serious. So that's the good news. My brother started a dialysis kind of thing this week. For ten days they filter all...
  3. Man, I SO wish I'd seen this thread before my friend's wedding last year. And yes, it was in LA!! (Yep, that whole trip, we had a heck of a time finding gluten-free restaurants) I was the wedding MC, and it was an all-day affair. I asked ahead of time and was assured there would be gluten-free food. Alas, only the drinks were safe. Not good! I actually...
  4. That was one of my first symptoms. Also "slightly" low like yours. I'm getting a new blood count done this week, so I'll see if it's any better after 9 months gluten-free.
  5. Hah... and here I thought brain fog was the ONLY celiac symptom I DON'T have. But when I read this post, I realized I've always qualified! I just always used the term "space cadet" instead. At least now I don't have to blame it on old age and drinking.... Oh and for the record, I've locked my keys in the car three times in the last two months
  6. Thanks for the tips, the bra is driving me crazy! Driving home late the other night, I was pulling off my bra on the highway (luckily no one was around) And the underarms lol... I keep running to the restroom at work just to scratch.
  7. Thank you for the update to this older post... it's very timely for me because I just broke out in a rash that is driving me nuts, and I can only link it to recently getting glutened at a restaurant (I know, I know..) Tasted some soup the waitress assured me was only thickened with corn starch and later found out it was wheat flour. That's EXACTLY...
  8. Thank you for this! I sure wish they could do the test now... My brother's getting some more news this afternoon, I will update soon. His neurologist said yesterday she was sure he's having an extreme autoimmune response... but now an abdominal CAT scan is showing something else. It's very scary.
  9. Wow, never heard of this. I've been very happy with my hand press for making corn tortillas, but am curious as to what this is!
  10. Awww, so sorry you have to go through this..... I got glutened recently again too, it's no freaking fun!!! I had the fevers last fall but they seem to have gone after nine months gluten-free. I hope. So hopefully yours will subside soon. Gotta love the 'just take a Tylenol' advice. My GI's is 'just take an Immodium'!
  11. Same here! It's the first sign of an accidental glutening for me! Also, wine before bed... not so good.
  12. Frieze -- Thanks, I will look into CoQ-10. Kamma, I will ask him what the MRI showed. All I know is they said "nothing definitive." I also read in PubMed that Transglutaminase 6 antibodies are a good blood test marker for GA, but I wonder if or how anyone ever gets tested for that? It doesn't sound like it's the same TTG that's part of routine celiac...
  13. Just a quick update here... My brother still has no diagnosis as to the cause of his ataxia; they ran a full celiac blood panel and all was negative. He's getting a spinal tap today to rule out MS and some kind of cancer. It seems to be getting worse, he told me he had to crawl to the kitchen the other day. It breaks my heart. Any more info about...
  14. Wow, I missed this one! Sheesh, how awful!! Glad you are okay... and I hope you find out what it was. You experience reinforces that I really need my doc to get me an Epi... because of $$ I think they're hesitating to refer to me yet another specialist. I better at least go get some benedryl.
  15. I was scoped and tested after seven months gluten-free and all was negative, even with what my doc called some of the best celiac 'scopers in the country. So getting a positive diagnosis after so long would be extremely rare I think. You could always get the gene test, which doesn't require eating gluten and can *help* rule celiac in or out, though not...
  16. Perfect analogy (and pretty much what glutening feels like for me, too)! And for the OP — one thing I love about this forum is no one judges the others based on who has an official diagnosis and who doesn't. I think many of those here WITH a diagnosis remember what a long hard road it was to get one!
  17. I feel you! There are so many possibilities... Cross-contamination is a biggie for me, and other issues like SIBO can cause many of the same symptoms. I agree that a food diary can be a big help. I'm nine months into this and still have gut issues. But when I look back at my food diary entries, I realize what I have now isn't nearly as bad it was six...
  18. Thanks for the link! Looks like a great resource.
  19. Tingling feet stopped pretty quickly, the joint pain in my arms and shoulders improved after about five months. Still struggling with digestive issues, but at least the majorly preggo-belly bloat is gone after about six months.
  20. I so agree with you! (And welcome, by the way.) I just read an article this morning that ended with this: "Celiac disease can be diagnosed with a simple blood test. It's possible some people have a mild intolerance to gluten, but most doctors say if you don't have celiac disease, you don't need to avoid gluten." Huh?? I am so glad my GI is more...
  21. Hmmm, yeah you need to see the ranges to know what those numbers mean. I hope you get some answers soon! My strongest, best answers came from going gluten free, so as you say, that may be your best option if you can't get the endo.
  22. Wow! I'd sure like to know when that test is available!! Do you know where I can find out more about it?
  23. I go for the general statement as well. Like nvsmom said, "I'm too sick for work" is enough. However, once I realized I had a long-term problem, I did sit my two bosses down for a chat and just explained to him that I have a celiac-like gluten intolerance and in the near future may have to miss work here and there, either because I might get suddenly...
