  1. The labeling law states that they must list the 8 main allergens: milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat--yet, that does not mean they must list rye or barley, so watch out for that, it's not generally used in most foods. Here is a site I posted earlier, take a look: Open Original Shared Link Also remember that even though...
  2. I have never heard of Stroh's before, must not be in this area. Turkey Hill doesn't hide ingredients and all are gluten-free except for the obvious ones, like cookie dough, etc. Breyers are mostly all gluten-free, most Kroger ice cream is gluten-free, except for the obvious, as is Edy's, Friendly's, I have never had trouble with Blue Bells, but I never...
  3. Weird, on my last few posts, I am still an advanced community member--hmmmmmm
  4. Here are 2 very good sites about soy. Dr. Mercola is very well known for his research. See if this helps you form an opinion. I am copying and pasting Dr. Mercola's info along with the site. Open Original Shared Link Soy Bad, Soy Good: The Pluses of Fermented Soy Soy is a hotly debated product among those who promote and sell its nutritional...
  5. Even before the labeling law the fact is MFS was almost never made from wheat. Extremely rare. This is so not true Richard. It is a well known fact that "modified food starch" could not be trusted. Many celiacs have been glutened by MFS. We could not trust cottage cheese for a very long time or yogurts because of MFS. It's amazing, you always have an...
  6. Dr. Peter Green is probably the most well known celiac doctor in the United States and he is here in NYC at Columbia University. I have attended one of his talks and I have also talked personally, more than once, with his top dietician, Anne Lee. Dr. Green does say that a very high percentage of celiacs cannot tolerate soy. I know it's true, I know several...
  7. The labeling law is in effect, but I think the companies have a certain amount of time before they have to change their labels. Some products still do not list the allergens and as long as they do not list them, then I will not trust modified food starch, we can't trust it.
  8. Tiffany, I often tell my sweetheart that if his hands were tied down, he would not beable to talk!!! Sometimes I actually worry that I may be standing too close in some of his stories!!! We are all correct. Doctors do not like being told they do not know it all. Most doctors anyways!!! We must educate them. I am sure that Srokie's doctor thinks...
  9. Hillyb--it's hard sometimes to avoid cross contamination in a household that big, everyone will have to help. Everyone needs to understand there can be no double dipping in the butter, peanut butter, things like that unless you label things just for her and they have to learn not too touch it. My sister is celiac and has lived in a non gluten free home...
  10. To clear something up--modified cornstarch is gluten free--modified food starch may contain gluten.
  11. Srokie, I do believe there is some truth in your doctor's opinion, for many celiacs, anyways. I can't have soy and it was the first intolerance I had after going gluten free. Now I can't have corn and I must be very careful with rice. I would love to see the info once you get it.
  12. I did mention that the Pantene shampoos for different colored hairs are not gluten free, the ones for blondes, brunettes, or redheads contain gluten. The regular types do not contain gluten. I have used Pantene for years now and I react very quickly to gluten, they have never given me a problem and they are wonderful for my hair. I use Garnier Nutresse...
  13. In the US, there are some Halls that are not gluten free. I am pretty sure the sugar free ones are gluten-free though. Now cough drops of any kind make my tummy out of sorts, always have. Some times your throat just needs lubricated a bit and any hard candy will help. Peppermint usually helps and is easy on the tummy too. The only coffee I have found...
  14. Me too, I can't tolerate grains. I can however eat 2 ricecakes a day without trouble.
  15. Angel42--it may be clanthompson.com that has an ingredient list to watch out for, I can't remember where I found the list. Very often on shampoo, lotions, etc, the ingredient will be listed as such: on VO5 it says, glycine soia (soybean), or wheat will be mentioned, as in Tressemme shampoo, it is listed on the ingredient. I also do not use anything with...
  16. A B12 deficiency is only one symptom of neuropathy. And, remember, B12 levels are only as good as the person reading them. A person with neuropathy needs much higher levels of B12. The doctor told me that my B12 level is good, yet I take 2400mcg of B12 daily just to keep it at that level. 2400mcg is 40,000% of the daily allowance for a normal person.
  17. When I researched Pantene again, the only ones containing gluten were the ones specific to a certain hair color, for blondes, brunettes, or red heads, and those have fizzled out pretty much anyways. I have been using the Ice SHine shampoo for over 2 weeks now with no adverse effects. I just purchased the Ice Shine conditioner last week and used it yesterday...
  18. NoGluGirl--wow, and I thought mine was bad taking over 12 hours to dry ! My bosses wife has very curly hair and she uses regular conditioner on it too keep it manageable, she just rubs some in after shampooing. I do know that Garnier Fruitis does have a "leave in" conditioner and it is gluten free, I just prefer Pantene. Avon used to make a great "leave...
  19. Shirley, are you saying that people who do not get the flu shot should not go out??? Or did you mean that people who are coming down with an illness should not go to a nursing home? This would be the ideal solution, but impossible to implement, as you are contagious BEFORE you have symptoms. Exactly Fiddle-Faddle! Besides the fact that quite often it...
  20. Coffee may have been the biggest surprise to me--WHY put wheat in coffee???????? The real corker is, it was hazelnut coffee and neither of us like hazelnut. We stopped at a Hess Station and bought regular coffee, someone had made the hazelnut in the wrong pot!!!! I had 2 shallows and knew it didn't taste right, the 2 shallows were enough to give me severe...
  21. Tarnalberry (sorry, I can't remember your real name) is so correct about the greiving process, it does hit us at the strangest times. I have been gluten-free now for 5 1/2 years. When I first went gluten-free, I could see the light at the end of the tunnell, meaning, finally, I was feeling better and I could see that I could have a life like others. I...
  22. I think the public shows us what is actually going on. I can remember when there were long lines of people waiting to get flu shots, you never see those anymore. I have never gotten a flu shot and probably never will. I work for a doctor and I very much respect his advice. He says "no" to the flu shots and he says there is no way for a flu shot to protect...
  23. I too had no emotional attachment to food. Before going gluten-free, I had already given up so many things that made me ill. Yet bread, maybe one of the worst foods for us, was a comfort food for me. Toast and peanut butter, or a swiss cheese and chicken sandwich, noodles were a favorite--things I felt were mild. Eating out was never important to me simply...
  24. Jerry, I have always had great respect for someone like you who can talk themselves out of a panic--I used to beable to do it too. This time, I didn't see it coming and I didn't even realize what was happening. Anticipatory anxiety can hit so fast that you do not even have time to panic--the 2 are not the same thing. I am very stressed by my kids and that...
  25. I am sure that gluten can cause this in some people, yet others can have it happen without being glutened too. I was diagnosed with anticipatory anxiety, panic attacks, and agorophobia when I was 27 years old, I was put on xanax at that time--4 times a day and I could not get out of bed. Xanax is not the proper drug to put a person on for this, xanax...
