ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Being Celiac?
darlindeb25 replied to KarenLee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It was explained to me in this way: Celiac Disease is the final stages of Gluten Intolerance--meaning, by the time you can be diagnosed as a celiac, tremondous damage has already been done. Being gluten intolerant is just as horrendous as having celiac disease if left untreated. If you are found to be gluten intolerant, than you must go gluten free just... -
Ursula--I was just reading this thread and I would like to mention one thing. Your B12 level being at 830 is not necessarily a good thing. Normal range is 200-1100--my level tested at 1237 and for me, that isn't high enough for my neuropathy. To begin with, the reference range for B12 is sat way too low. 830 probably is closer to a low average than you...

ARCHIVED Cataracts At 28 Yrs Old?!
darlindeb25 replied to brizzo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The doc I work for, Dr. Z says that he can tell you what diseases you have by looking in your eyes. He says not only are the eyes the windows to our world, they are also the windows to our body. Yet, I don't think enough is known about celiacs for doctors to know what they see, as of yet. Celiacs masks so many other diseases and that is what they see,... -
ARCHIVED Cataracts At 28 Yrs Old?!
darlindeb25 replied to brizzo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I work for one of the best optomitrist there is and he knows I have celiacs disease. At 50, I developed dry eye and when I asked him why people develop dry eye, he told me quite often it is hormonal, sometimes due to autoimmune diseases. When I asked if celiacs could be the cause he looks at me and smiles, then says, "Nah, it's your age, hormonal and all... -
Well, I'm going to join the crowd, I hate the cold too. It's been down to 37 here a couple of nights and I don't like it at all. I grew up in Michigan too and yeah, we had plenty of snow. Here on Long Island, we seem to get more snow all the time, at least it doesn't last long. When I moved here 2 yrs ago I walked the beach every Friday, all winter and...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help Me With More Sites?
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have to say, I understand overwhelming. I feel like a truck ran over me last night--I thank you all for the info, yet am so frustrated. I read that just because you couldn't tolerate certain foods in one way, that maybe you can in another--it never occurred to me that I am making myself sick. I have the "why me's" tonight and can't shake them. I will... -
My sister is a dietician in a 28 bed hospital. After she was diagnosed, then she could see the gluten intolerance in other patients. This one man, his name is Bob, was the person patient my sister asked a doctor to test for celiacs. She was correct and she taught Bob all about celiacs. He did great, he gained weight back, felt better than he had in years...

Ok Rachel--I can't have wine, it makes me very sick and I was told it is the sulfites in wine--is that the same sulfites as in corn? -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help Me With More Sites?
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you Claire for the sites, I will read each one. Thank you everyone for responding--it truly is much easier when you know you are not alone. The feeling that eventually I will not beable to eat anything has very much been on my mind and it does help that I am not alone. Rachel--I truly do not think Lyme disease is my problem, eventually I may... -

I was told by someone that IBS stands for: I Be Stumped. I believe that to be true, if a doctor doesn't know, he tells you IBS so you have something to start with. I also was diagnosed with IBS 25 yrs ago. Deb -
ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances?
darlindeb25 replied to Helena's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi--mine didn't develop all at once. First I went gluten free and then I decided to try the Eat Right For Your Blood Type diet. Well, I am a Type A and it said to eliminate dairy and use soy. I loved the 8th Continent Soymilk, but, in a very short time, I realized I was intolerant to soy. Let me see, I have been here for 2 yrs, so the soy happened in... -

CantEvenEatRice--you are so correct. At work I get so tired of saying, "No, not that either!" Then I hear, "WHAT CAN YOU EAT?" It is frustrating. In the beginning I was doing so well and I lost about 60. I am one of the celiacs that gained weight instead of losing while ill. Now that I have developed all these other intolerances, the weight is raising... -

I am an old hand at this, been gluten free now for 5 yrs July 06. My sister is a dietician and gluten free 5 yrs last March. She does wonderfully on a gluten free diet, all the gluten gone, she can eat almost anything she wants, minus glutens. I on the other hand have developed so many other intolerances--soy, corn, rice, nightshades, many veggies. I... -
ARCHIVED Does Anystill Eat Gluten?
darlindeb25 replied to uhmanduh's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
uhmanduh--My sister and I both now realize we were gluten intolerant probably all of our lives. When I think back to all the stomach problems our dad had, I think he was too. I was 45 and she 42 when we found out about celiacs. By that time, I had been ill for nearly 25 yrs by this time. I have been gluten free now for 5 yrs this last July. For 9 yrs... -
ARCHIVED How Tall Are You All?
darlindeb25 replied to Kaycee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am 5'5, a little taller than my mom and sister both. I have 5 kids, my daughter looks me in the eye--my sons are 6'--6'2-- and 2 at 6'3. I growed em tall!!!!!!!!!!!! I think short statuer can be a symptom of celiacs, but not for everyone. The doctor I work for says that as a general rule, all men are taller than their mother! Deb -

Celiac Disease can be corrected with the proper diet as a must, and it can reverse intestinal damage by diet controll, but it MAY develop into other autoimune issues if not taken into control. Celiac Disease can not be corrected, the symptoms can be relieved, most problems can be corrected, yet the celiac disease will always be there. Once a celiac, always... -
ARCHIVED Major Depression
darlindeb25 replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is another thing you need to understand about going gluten free. Even though we begin to feel better--in your case only being gluten free for 3 months may not be long enough to judge yet. Like someone said--give it time. Yet, we all mourn food. We mourn the fact that we can't just pop anything into our mouth at any given time--we even resent that... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
darlindeb25 replied to faegan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No--iron deficient anemia is not the same. Pernicious anemia is caused by a lack of intrinsic factor, a substance needed to absorb vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract. Vitamin B12, in turn, is necessary for the formation of red blood cells. Anemia is a condition where red blood cells are not providing adequate oxygen to body tissues. There are... -

I feel the need to add to this thread. I have felt this way about this forum for a long, long time. It had gotten nitpicky a long time ago and there were many times a newbie would come in and others would "kind of" pick on them, and I didn't like the feel here. When a newbie comes in and asks a question that may seem like a common sense question to a seasoned... -
The stress from the death of my sister's first baby was my full blown trigger. That baby would have been 25 this last March. I think my 2nd pregnancy was the beginning and that son will be 30 in December. Deb

Stroganoff--I miss noodles so much. Yet, I miss so much now. I have totally mourned food for most of the summer. It's been 5 yrs this last July and my intolerances are so great now. Many days I feel it very unfair. At least when I could eat rice, I could have a little variety. I have my ricecakes and peanut butter, my chicken breast, sometimes fish...

ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy...
darlindeb25 replied to sparkles's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have neuropathy, I would say over my whole body. The doc says it is small fiber in my legs and feet, I also have carpal tunnel associated with neuropathy. My entire right side seems to be effected more. The pain seems to travel, usually it's my right foot that is effected most. When my right wrist gets sore, it travels up my arm and into my shoulder...
