  1. Welcome meg,

Did you have these blood test for Celiac Disease?:

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

    Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

    Total IgA level.

With a family history of lymphoma and colon cancer, I would think that a diet change for good health would be a blessing. ;)

Celiac Disease has over 200 symptoms and it varies from person to person. I am not sure about the vitiligo. But, continue to read here and see if the shoe fits.

  2. Dan,

Here is a link that might be of interest to you: Open Original Shared Link

For those of us with Celiac Disease, a gluten reaction can occur when ever gluten is ingested.

Often times, the disease itself can be triggered by stress, surgery, pregnancy or illness. Once it's triggered, it is with you for life. It certainly was with me. During a period of high stress my Celiac Disease was triggered, although I had no clue what was wrong at the time.

You found a great site here, with tremendous information.

  3. Hi Robin - I don't know of any docs in your area (I'm not from there) but I do know that you can get the test done through enterolab.com. :)

Enterolabs can test for specific sensitivites but they cannot diagnose for Celiac Disease.

  4. I live near Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I am looking for a doctor to run the specific tests that diagnose celiac. Can someone please help,

    thank you, Robin

    Hi Robin,

The Celiac Disease Foundation can help you get started. Good luck

  5. I made a typo on a post and want to correct it, but I don't see the edit button.

ETA: It's here on this post, although my first edit didn't "take".

The post in question is this one:

The edit envelope has closed. The edit button will remain on a new post for several hours then it disappears. This is the results of the "tweaking" of the site several weeks ago from the administration.

  6. I suspects niks is lying in the divan with a cold compress over her eyes, exhausted from all the catch-up reading

Gosh, Jess...I haven't heard the word "divan" in YEARS and in Nikki's case quite appropriate...

The divan in this sense has been commonly known in Europe certainly since about the middle of the 18th century. It was fashionable, roughly speaking, from 1820 to 1850, wherever the romantic movement in literature penetrated. All the boudoirs of that generation were garnished with divans. They even spread to coffee-houses, which were sometimes known as divans or Turkish divans, and a cigar divan remains a familiar expression

....but, I guess you knew that.

    (glad you're feeling better)

  7. I am starting my gluten free diet tomorrow, whether my test is back or not. My doctors won't help me so I am going to have to just do my own test run and see if I feel better. I am so confused about the natural flavorings in food and modified food startch. Oh do I know if these foods are safe or not safe??

    Please help me understand this!

    Welcome!

    OK, here's the scoop...

Modified Food Starch, in the US, is generally derived from corn. Should it be derived from wheat, by law, it will be listed as Modified Food Starch (wheat) or wheat will be listed on the ingredient listing.

Natural Flavors can hide gluten. Many time it would be wise to call the company to see if barley, rye or malt is an ingredient. Wheat is one of the eight allergins and must be listed by law.

Here is a listing of companies who will clearly list ALL forms of gluten and we like to support those who do:

    Hope this helps.

Sonic. 866-657-6642. No gluten-free menu that is printed or published on the Internet. However, a company representative at Sonic's toll-free number verbally gave the following list of gluten-free menu items:

    Bacon

    Breakfast sausage patty

    Hamburger, no bun

    Hotdog, no bun

    Sliced American cheese

    Shredded cheddar cheese

    Pepperjack cheese

Egg patty (may be contaminated from cooking on the same griddle as non-gluten-free foods)

    Ketchup

    Mustard

    Marinara sauce

Salad dressings, all varieties in the usual menu*

Shake mix (Shakes may be made in the same container as malts. Ask the staff to clean the container to prevent cross-contamination.)

    Softserve ice cream

    Hershey's chocolate syrup

Butterfinger, M&M, Reese's Pieces, and whipped toppings

Route 44 drinks, all flavors in the usual menu*

Slushes, all flavors in the usual menu*

*Special menu items are not included in this list.

Although Sonic's Tater Tots and French fries are gluten free, they may have gluten contamination from being fried with gluten-containing menu items

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF OLD AND I WOULD NOT RELY ON THE INFORMATION, BUT THERE IS A CONTACT #. The risk would be too high for me to enjoy.

  9. Good morning everyone! Here's a cute funny and Bev, you can relate to this one! :P

Teachers are going to love this one!!

At Penn State University, there were four sophomores taking chemistry and all of them had an "A" so far.

These four friends were so confident that, the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time but, after all the hearty partying; They slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Penn State until early Monday morning.

Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final, they would explain to their professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back they had a flat tire.

As a result, they missed the final. The professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved.

They studied that night for the exam.

The next day the professor placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem worth 5 points. Cool, they thought! Each one in separate rooms, thinking this was going to be easy. ...

Then they turned the page. On the second page was written....

    For 95 points: Which tire

  10. Last night was much better in terms of getting to sleep. I called my PCP and told him I wanted to switch my anxiety med back to what I was taking because some of this runs along side that switch as well and I wanted to cover all my bases.

This mornings my forearms and lower legs/feet are crampy (mostly the legs) and quite tingly, meaning that it feels as if a small electrical current is running through them. Not pins and needles, although I have felt that as well and it has nothing to do with me having my legs crossed or some other position that would impede circulation. I have to think this is nerve related.

Beth, make sure that you are not altering your anxiety meds too quickly. Often times the withdrawal effect can be very similar to what you are describing with the "small electrical currents".

The pins and needle effect can be caused by peripheral neuropathy, which can be associated with diabetes as well as autoimmune responses.

Hope you can find your answer. I'm still looking. <_<

  11. Both my mom and I get stomach cramps when we eat sugar on an empty stomach. I am also lactose intolerant (still waiting to see if I have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity). Is it common to be this sensitive to other foods when you have a gluten sensitivity?

Yes, especially dairy. Often you can reintroduce it when healing has occurred. Many people here do have other intolerance's. I would tackle the gluten first due to the potential of intestinal (and other things) should you have Celiac Disease.

  12. Hi Charity and welcome!

This is a great site. The best thing you can do now is to read, read, read here and many here are available for questions.

I would start out with a food journal and document everything that you eat and what if any reaction you have. Keep things simple like meats, seafood, potatoes, rice, veggies and fruit. Limit your seasoning to salt and pepper until you know what is safe to add.

The gluten free diet have a sharp learning curve and it takes some time to master. Don't be discouraged if you make mistakes. Everything that goes into your mouth should be checked for gluten to include lotions, toothpaste, vitamins, meds and even shampoos.

It's important that you know that should you want to be tested for Celiac, you must remain on a gluten diet for accuracy in testing. There are the blood tests that you should request from your doctor:

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

    Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

    Total IgA level

(I thought Crohns was found in the large intestines not the small) Celiac Disease is found in the small intestines.

  13. This is what I do, I've never had anything but a positive experience. The chef is usually more than happy to help. Once, I complimented on the dessert and he came out shortly after with the recipe!

Yup, you can call or stop in during off hours and sit down and talk to the chief who might offer you several options.

    Choices are good!
