Raleigh, North Carolina was listed in the top ten cities to live in, with the beach and mountains easily available. It's a young persons town. And you have Raleigh, Durham and Winston Salem, which is called the Triangle and some really big money generated there.

Every time I have house guests or company for dinner, I totally cook gluten free. It's my home. I get no complaints, just compliments. I am a taster when I cook.
There are so many gluten free mainstream products that makes it very easy. With all the fresh produce this summer you have sooo many options.
Quiche with fresh tomatoes with mozzer. cheese and balsamic dressing.
Grilled chicken with corn on the cob and a big tossed salad
Breakfast casserole fresh cantaloupe
Sandwiches with deli meats and cheeses (well, maybe some real bread) Chips and dips
Lots of options.

Does Celiac get worse? For example, I'm 19 now but if I waited until I was 30 would my symptoms get much worse?
Logic tells me that the answer is yes, but I'm wondering if anyone would know from experience.
Edit: OMG, brain fog... I meant worse, not worst
Yes, and consider yourself one of the lucky ones. I was diagnosed at 50. Which leave those of us diagnosed at a later age to potentially be at risk for much more unfortunate issues such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, MS, intestinal lymphoma, peripheral neuropathy and other paths that gluten can get a hold of and reek havoc.
Celiac is celiac, but it's friends are not welcome house guests.
Please be true to you diet.

Yes, as Jess has said. That also depends on your level of sensitivity. I cook 99% gluten free and when I do not (such as pasta for my husband), I take extra care to clean by hand before it enters the dishwasher.
The heat in the dishwasher does nothing for gluten residue, rather it is the soap and water action that released the gluten matter from the untensils and plates.

Well said!

Is there a way to scroll through the all the message? How do I get rid of the message tree?
I don't understand this? What is a message tree?

I started a thread similar to this one not so long ago. We all come together with a common bond, but yet our lives are so diverse. During the course of the previous thread, I found that most that posted were highly educated, highly degreed and the stay at home mom's/dad had had more intellect and knowledge than I would have ever imagined. I came to a hypothesis that Celiacs are damn smart people, whatever avenue they found themselves in.
I spent my early 20's working on Capital Hill, raising monies for a particular political party. What a world-wind and when I think back. Oh, the stories I can tell about prominent political people VERY currently in the news ....
I married and moved South, raised my girls in a small town...and still here. I spent 30 years contributing the my community and proud of the footprints of my efforts.
I sometimes, wonder "what if", but then I look at my 23 and 26 young women that I raised and know that I did a damn good job.

Since being gluten free, I have been diagnosed with arthritis, anemia, and now they are checking for lupus. I am 31. Geez. I shouldn't have arthritis. They are checking also that it is not Rheumatoid. The arthritis has reared up since gluten free. I seem to have been in MORE pain since gluten-free. I didn't know if I have all this and now it is unmasked or something. Any ideas?
Thanks

I am not an expert by no means, but I think Celiac has a loud voice, symptom related. Once those symptoms are relieved, other quiet voice are allowed to be heard.
Celiac can be very complex, and well known to develop in to other issues.

Hope you get good news Brenda.
I was pretty much like Jess. A mexican lunch and slept on the way home and the rest of the afternoon. The worst is almost over. The proceedure is nothing to worry about.

Susie,
I am so sorry for you three losses. I know how emotional it can be. My daughter found out she miscarried this past week.
You may remember, there was a thread here some time ago regarding miscarrages. I was amazed how many of us had suffered them.
I hope you can find some answers.

I think that you should get a total medibolic blood work up and make sure that you are not deficient in anything due to Celiac.
You may also look into Peripheral Neuropathy. Google that and see if it fits. Low B-12 or hypoglycemia can also cause symptoms such as you described.
Good luck in your search.

This is really embarrassing, but here goes. For the past two weeks, I have had really bad diarrhea nonstop. At first I thought it was just a stomach virus, but it won't go away and I don't really have all the symptoms of a stomach virus. I still have a huge appetite, I'm not vomiting, and I haven't had fever at all. I also have had stomach problems basically my whole life. I either have diarrhea, weird bms, painful gas and bloating, or I'm constipated for a week or more at a time. I'm also always extremely tired, I feel weak most of the time, I'm always really hungry, my skin itches for no apparent reason, and sometimes I feel like I'm kind of in a fog. I've been to the doctor, but I've never been tested for this. All of my bloodwork always comes out well and they tell me just to eat right and exercise and I'll be fine. So, I've done that. I went on a whole grain diet and started exercising but things just seem to be getting worse rather than better. Today, I haven't eaten anything with wheat and I feel a little better. I still have diarrhea but for most of the day I didn't feel as weak or as tired as usual. Anyways, any replies would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to this site. Caraline, what type of blood work has your doctor done on you? A metabolic panel to check deficiency?
Since you have found this site, I assume that you have a concern regarding Celiac. Celiac Disease is an intolerance from the proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, malt and most oats Contact you doctor and ask that he/she run a full Celiac Panel and get the blood work done, and then go from there.
If you feel immediate results from not eating "wheat" you may have a wheat allergy. Wheat is only a portion of Celiac Disease.
Oh so many of us have been diagnoses with IBS (the last meaning BS). By average it takes a Celiac person 11 year to be diagnoses. So, you are in good company.
If you do consider the full panel testing for Celiac, you need to continue with a full gluten diet. This will ensure a more accuracy in testing.
(btw - poo is a common topic here, with much interest

Okay...thanks! I bet you're all waiting with bated breath....
What on earth will she possibly write there?
Perhaps some of the humor that you father gave you.
I do remember how funny. You are a master at humor. Yes, awaiting.

Any distilled spirits should technically be gluten free, although some such as vodka have added flavors after the distilling process. That is not a license to assume the some gluten sensitive people do not react.
Alcohol can serve as a solvent to your digestive system and can be very harsh, especially during the healing process.
OK, that sounded a little bit preachy, didn't mean too. There is a list of gluten free spirits on this site index, which would be a good safe way to start. RedBridge, New Grist are two of the gluten free beers readily available.
Enjoy.

According to the GIG (Gluten-Intolerance Group) wines and distilled spirits (aka hard-liquor) are gluten free. Obviously beer isn't. I've read several posts that speak of sensitivities to alcohols like vodka - Shouldn't that be gluten free as well? Or is it more a case or irritating a preexisting problem by drinking?

I've never had a baby, but someone once offered me the following advice:
Wait as long as you can before going to the hospital, and eat before you go because they don't let you eat when you're there.
Eating and being in labor at the same time, not such an easy task. Then they try to give you an enema so the only thing you deliver is a baby.
Good luck Stef. Keep us updated.

As stated on another thread, I have never seen any documentation that glue on envelopes contain gluten. Nor have I ever heard that it does not.
...but until it presents itself, I would be cautious.
If you are relatively new to the gluten free diet, it will take some time to heal. Some feel better in several days and others will take several months.
I have found that it is almost impossible to be 100% gluten free in the beginning. There are just too many things to learn and too many traps.
Hope you feel better soon.

I took some for about four days. They did not sit well with me at all and threw them out. I believe the ones that I bought contained dairy. There are some probiotics that are dairy free, but not familiar with which brands.

Bev,
Thanks for your thoughts. Getting up with Lynne may be a good idea. I do have a first cousin with MS.
Are we paranoid or what? Getting old sucks!!!!!!!!! Researching the internet can scare the crap out of you. Guess, I'll e-mail Lynne and SHE can scare the crap out of me.
Never the less, good night to all and to all a good night.

Emily,
What years did this air. I just saw Geoff's Youtube and I vaguely remember. I think some where between my childhood and my children's hood. I am in my lower 50's and my girls are arrive at their mid 20's.
But, never the less, all too cool. What wonderful memories for you and others here. From hence your humor comes. What a lucky girl. I had frumps in my gene pool.
