ARCHIVED 'new York Style' Foldable Pizza Crust
2Boys4Me replied to hangininthere's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tapioca starch = Tapioca flour Potato starch does NOT = Potato flour. Although to confuse matters, sometimes potato starch is referred to as potato starch flour. -
ARCHIVED 1st Party Invite For Celiac 3 Yr Old
2Boys4Me replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We've always provided our own pizza and cupcake. Practically every party Ty is invited to has pizza. If you go, be sure to call the pizza place first to tell them there's (probably) nothing on the menu for your child, and he will be providing his own pizza, then make sure there's someplace clean to heat it up. -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Done This?
2Boys4Me replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Like birth control pills. A lot of "miracle babies" have been born while on the pill when the mom is taking St. John's wort. -
ARCHIVED Thinking About Having Another Baby
2Boys4Me replied to Nantzie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't think that 4 years is a very big age gap at all. I know quite a few people with a 4-5 year gap on purpose. Sometimes due to medical issues between babies, and others planned because when one goes to kindergarten, Mom will have time with the new baby at home. I am 8 1/2 years older than my brother and I barely know him. That's a big regret for... -
ARCHIVED Packing Lunches For School For Picky Eaters
2Boys4Me replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Today's lunch: gluten-free 7 year old 2 slices banana bread (about 2" x 2" big - I use big mini loaf pans, not the tiny loaf pans) 1 hard boiled egg, sliced 2 slices ham rolled up into one rollup with shredded cheese handful of almonds 1 homemade breadstick (leftover from Roben Ryberg's recipe) 1 glass sugar free koolaid (tupperware glass with lid... -
ARCHIVED Making Your Own Pizza Dough And Sauce
2Boys4Me replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'll bet canned crushed tomatoes will be the right consistency. Add some garlic and herbs and we'll head over for lunch! -
ARCHIVED Just Curious...
2Boys4Me replied to sarahelizabeth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was 5 years 9 months old when confirmed via bloodtest and biopsy. He had (and still has) no outward symptoms, and the only reason it was discovered is during kindergarten he had started falling asleep at the supper table almost daily, so we took him to get his iron levels checked. They were very low (3 should have been at least 10) and he was put... -
ARCHIVED Packing Lunches For School For Picky Eaters
2Boys4Me replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hmm. No advice from me either. I have a gluten-free son who will eat almost everything in his lunch. He'll leave a few crumbs. My non-gluten-free son brings half his lunch home. gluten-free lunch ideas: banana bread, hard boiled eggs, egg sandwich on Lorka's flax bread, ham slices rolled up either plain, or with shredded cheese inside (sometimes I roll... -
ARCHIVED What's For Dinner Tonight?
2Boys4Me replied to Mtndog's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you have Lee Kum Kee brand oyster sauce, check for Choy Sun. It has a yellow label. LKK makes about 5 different kinds of oyster sauce, so be careful. Our family really likes the Maple Salmon from Allrecipes.com. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED I Must Be Out Of My Mind
2Boys4Me replied to Rusla's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Weird...most of the time doctors recommend Calgary and Kamloops for people with asthma. It's like the desert. But with mountains. -
ARCHIVED I Must Be Out Of My Mind
2Boys4Me replied to Rusla's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I lived on Vancouver Island for 11 years when I was growing up. We moved there from Ontario (after a 9 month stay in Alberta) and after the first Christmas, I loved it. There isn't a child on the planet who appreciates pouring rain on Christmas day, it seemed like such a rip off! I lived in Victoria for 3 years during college, and didn't get to do as much... -
Very nice. I can tell that's not Regina - there are more than two trees in your pictures.

ARCHIVED Doritos
2Boys4Me replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do they have Zesty Cheese Doritos in the U.S.? That's the kind we get now. I don't like Doritos much, but to me the Zesty Cheese and Nacho Cheese taste a lot alike. In Canada Zesty Cheese is in an orange bag w/o gluten and Nacho Cheese is in a red bag w/gluten. -
ARCHIVED What Happened To Spring?
2Boys4Me replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Last week we had 16c and all our snow melted...then the next morning we woke up to 10cm of snow. It was "wet" snow. Wet snow is much heavier and harder to shovel than regular snow. Tomorrow: 12c if we are lucky. I lived for 10 years on Vancouver Island where we had tons of flowers in March/April. Right after I moved to Regina, I was bike riding with a... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Choose Endoscopy Or No Endoscopy For My Son.
2Boys4Me replied to momof6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ty's blood test was overwhelmingly positive. The doctors pretty much said they only wanted to do the endoscopy to see what was there, but they were sure they were looking at celiac because of the blood tests. He had the endoscopy when he was 5yrs 9months old. They did find damage: some villi normal, some with severe villous atrophy "consistent with... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free And Not Growing
2Boys4Me replied to CeliacBoys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is he maintaining growth on the fifth percentile? I think if he is growing slowly but surely and maintaining his growth curve, that's certainly better than dropping off. My son did not have a miraculous growth spurt either. He went from below third percentile of weight to the third, and he's maintained that for the year and few months he's been on the diet... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Work With Their Husband?
2Boys4Me replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I used to, but it was a different situation than yours seems to be. We both worked for the same company (about 70 employees), but we worked for different departments. He was always on 3:30 to midnight and I worked that shift, as well as mornings and graveyards, so we didn't run into each other too often at work. We'd always eat supper together on the 3:3... -

ARCHIVED Snapple Drinks, Minute Maid
2Boys4Me replied to ReneCox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Canadians - Check Ocean Spray. A celiac acquaintance of mine mentioned one of them may not be gluten-free. I don't know which one, and it was last summer, so ingredients could certainly have changed since then. -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Different Recipe
2Boys4Me replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love the Maple Salmon from Allrecipes.com. Original poster is Starflower. Marinate salmon for 30 minutes in: 1/4 cup maple syrup, 2 tbsp soy sauce, minced garlic and freshly ground black pepper. Bake at 400F for 20 minutes. Turn salmon over after 10 min. I never measure the garlic or pepper. Just throw it in. Yummy! We had this last night, in fact... -
Check out the difference between excimer (sp?) and lasik. I had lasik 6 years ago. My right eye was overcorrected so I had to have another surgery to fix that. I've just discovered that my astigmatism is stronger than eye surgery. I just got a weak (-1.50) prescription, but I have to wear the glasses all the time. My husband had lasik about a month after...

ARCHIVED Nutritionist From Hospital
2Boys4Me replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the concern about buckwheat is to make sure it is "pure, uncontaminated" buckwheat, and not mixed with wheat flour. For example if you were to go to the local grocery and pick up a mix for buckwheat pancakes, odds are there's wheat flour in the mix. Similar to the oats situation.
