Child's results - confused
cyclinglady replied to JJav123412's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I am not a doctor, but I can tell you that I have (and continue to test even in follow up testing), tested positive to only the DGP IgA (your daughter's result a positive IgG). My biopsies revealed patches of moderate to severe intestinal damage. I was suffering from anemia. Having an elevated DGP result is not common. My research indicates... -
Ugh! I am so sorry! Like you, a glutening for me can last for months. Besides lots of fluids and rest, I eat stew (meats and veggies) and soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is nourishing and easy to digest. I even cook fruit (e.g. Baked apple). Anything soft and mushy! Because eating ANYTHING will hurt to digest for hours. I get it! I...

My GI said the same thing, but he warned me that we would have to wait for the pathologist's report. Guess what? The report showed moderate to severe patches of intestinal damage. So, hang in there and just wait for those results.

My issue has been resolved. I stayed longed in all day. Thanks! -
Oh, I would hate to have you test negative because your gluten challenge was not long enough. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/what-is-a-gluten-challenge/ https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/Testing-and-Diagnosis/The-Gluten-Challenge/1510/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3847752/ If you were going straight to an...

Favourite recipes without weird ingredients

350 degrees. You can flatten them with a fork (traditional PB cookies) or roll them into inch balls and roll into sugar. They turn out more like a truffle! That is the way we eat them. They melt in your mouth. Experiment with bake times. Longer yields a cruncher cookie and less time a softer version. We like them soft, so we pop them into Tupperware... -

We made these in my Jr. High Home Ec class back in the early 1970s and I still bake them today! Yum! -
15 yr old daughter celiac?
cyclinglady replied to monicameme's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your daughter does not have a strong positive. I suspect that the GI might do as RMJ suggested which would be to load her up on gluten for six months and retest. On the other hand, with a diagnosed sibling and a very mild positive, your GI might recommend the endoscopy or run the test again to make sure there were no errors. Together, you and your... -

Me too! I have been having issues with my internet provide (failure to connect at times), but I have the very latest in fiber optics. My modem seems to be okay. My iPad is new and up to date. I belong to a diabetic forum and I never get dropped and have to sign in again. -
There are over 200 symptoms attributed to celiac disease. The problem is these symptoms over overlap with other illnesses. Based on what you stated, having a blood test or endoscopy is out. What does your doctor say? It sounds like it would be hard to adhere to a diet or even get medication (say, if you were hypothyroid or needed cancer treatment), if...

Incorrect diagnosis?

@Gemini Funny how we all are so different in terms of celiac disease issues. I have always been able to eat lots of fat and I do not even have a gallbladder. Go figure! -

That medication can damage your liver! -
Yikes! Was the fruit from a grocery store or did a PTA Parent cut it up at home on a possibly contaminated cutting board in her kitchen after she cut all the pastries into smaller sizes? One cup of fruit and you eat apples? I would think not a fructose intolerance. Maybe an intolerance to melon or plain old food poisoning (did the grocery store...

Endoscopy and steroids
cyclinglady replied to Jlewisrn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you might be okay: http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/would-taking-steroids-cause-the-blood-tests-to-be-inaccurate/ Make sure you have been on a gluten diet for at least two weeks prior to the endoscopy. If you went Gluten Free, tell your GI. -
Kids tested, how will I know
cyclinglady replied to Deades's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since I presented with anemia, I had my doctor check my daughter for it when they ran her celiac panel. My anemia made me very tired and out of breath. Tessa is right, anything out of range is suspect. Highs on the celiac antibodies tests (EMA, DGP, TTG). A low on the control test (IgA deficiency/Immunoglobulin can invalidate the IgA celiac antibodies... -

Hi! This is going to sound weird, but I am happy you have a diagnosis. I hope, like Karen, that your daughter's other issue will resolve on a gluten free diet. Your best defense is to research, research and research. Learn all that you can about the gluten-free diet. You can check out our Newbie 101 thread located under the Coping section of the... -

If you are going to cite a medical journal, you should provide the link. Karen is right. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease triggered by ingested (eating) gluten. The autoimmune reaction (body attacking the small intestine) can last for days, weeks or months after a gluten exposure. https://celiac.org/celiac-disease/understanding-celiac-disease... -
She is now the head of the American GI Association. Not sure if she is able to take new patients. But she would be a great doctor to see! https://celiac.org/blog/2017/06/dr-sheila-crowe-becomes-president-american-gastroenterological-association/ I think a consult with a Celiac-Savvy dietician would be helpful. I think Texas Jen recently visited...

First test
cyclinglady replied to dhodgson7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, I am not a doctor, but based on just these results, you do not have celiac disease (and you know that already). But there are other things that might come into the diagnostic equation and you should discuss with your doctor. Before asking for additional celiac testing, do you have any these other risk factors (besides the genes)? For example... -
celiac and wierd new symptoms....Arthritis? Lupus?
cyclinglady replied to artsunshine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I was diagnosed, my only symptom was unexplained anemia (iron-deficiency) .......or so I thought! I, like many others, blamed aches and pains on aging. I had hip and rib pain prior to my diagnosis. I had to buy padding to cushion my bed. I could not sleep in my sides for long. I would awaken from sleep because it hurt. Turns out I fractured... -
First test
cyclinglady replied to dhodgson7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! Some 30% of the population carries the genes that can develop into celiac disease. Only a very few actually do. This test is used usually to rule out celiac disease. The other tests measuring antibodies? Do you have the ranges? Every lab is different. -
Severe stomach symptoms!
cyclinglady replied to jess88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Consider asking your doctor for a celiac blood test panel. It measures antibodies. The gene test is not effective for a diagnosis because some 30% of the population carries the genes that can develop into celiac disease and only a very few actually go on to develop it. It is used more commonly to help rule out celiac disease. http... -

She can have more than one issue going on. Has EOE been ruled out? http://www.aaaai.org/conditions-and-treatments/related-conditions/eosinophilic-esophagitis Crohn's Disease? My niece was diagnosed at 19 and suffered for a few years prior to her diagnosis. I thought for sure she had celiac disease (she is tiny!!!!), but all tests were negative...
