  1. Welcome! So, your doctor gave you a diagnosis based on what a visual on a colonoscopy? He managed to get to the end of your small intestine (it is possible)? celiac disease does not present with damage to the colon, but IBD disorders like Crohn's (affects entire GI tract) and Ulcerative Colitis (affects just the colon) do. Of course it is possible...
  2. @flutegal64 Off topic....do you play the flute?
  3. You can go gluten free and it is NOT expensive. I guess it could be if you buy gluten free junk food. Eat whole, naturally gluten free foods like rice, fish, meat, veggies, nuts, and fruit. Add dairy later after you heal (and you can heal).
  4. What blood tests were clean? Both the TTG and the DGP? It takes time to build up antibodies. One week or two after an exposure may reveal nothing. My antibodies were off the charts four weeks after a gluten exposure when I went into my GI's office. Took me three months to feel good and another three to regain lost weight. My symptoms totally changed...
  5. I once took a self-defense class given by our Police Chief. In a nut shell, he stated that even a scrawny guy can over power a woman. Our best defense is one that guys lack -- intuition. I have applied that advice to even eating out. Get a bad vibe? LIsten to that inner voice, just order a drink or leave. I do research in advance using recommendations...
  6. Lots of people view and never respond for many reasons (like they are not knowledgeable enough or what another member said would be identical information). Remember, you posted while being sick. It was just a rant. Plus, you are anonymous here. It is one reason why this forum is strong. It is one reason why I do not belong to a Facebook group (even a...
  7. Your campus does not have a medical clinic? Any MD can order a celiac panel.
  8. Your life just sounds crazy right now! I love the idea of a weekend away. I am planning for one myself. I am camping and invited other Moms to join me. However, it is every man for himself (no cooking for anyone but me, etc.) We plan on playing games, walking, reading, sleeping or doing nothing! I chose camping because I have an RV and I live in sunny...
  9. It should be fine covered (place a paper towel down too before setting your dish down). But it can take time to get to the microwave in the teacher's lounge. Invest in a thermos. That is what we use. Add boiling water to preheat it (then dump it). My hubby and kid love a hot lunch!
  10. Well, here is a more current study (2014 vs. 2001 and 1996) comparing smoking (smoking and snuff use) and found that smoking or snuff does not impact celiac rates one way or another: Open Original Shared Link Here is a rebuttal to the study Van Zantac published: Open Original Shared Link So, as a non-scientist and a Mom, I would recommend...
  11. I can speak for Wellesse, but if it is certified it is most likely safe. Contact the manufacturer to be sure. It is a good habit to get into. Are you deficient in anything? I take no supplements and get all my nutrition from Whole Foods. My GI has tested me and I am fine. The only supplement I have taken was iron and Vitamin D for just the first few...

    ARCHIVED Help

Welcome! There are over 300 symptoms for celiac. The only way to know is to get tested. Here are the tests as listed on the University of Chicago celiac website (one of the easiest to read): Open Original Shared Link I wish you well.
  13. I am not a doctor, but this may help: Open Original Shared Link From a parent's perspective, it's celiac disease. That TTG is super high. The good news is that she can undo the damage (e.g. Like building up her bone mass).
  14. Welcome! I think you made a typo. You listed the TTG IgG twice with two different values. Can you please clarify? The genetic test helps rule out celiac disease -- not diagnose it. That's because some 30% of the population carries the genes, but only a few actually go on to develop celiac disease. You might consider asking for the EMA and DGP...
  15. Welcome to the forum! I am glad that you know where you stand. Soon you will feel better. Your daughter? I suspect she could very well have celiac disease or will develop it. You could ask the GI for the complete celiac panel. I know that I never test positive to the TTG. Ask for the EMA and DGP as they might have higher elevations. ...
  16. It would be heaven to be able to travel or eat out without fear of cross contamination. Like a new model car, I am going to wait until all the kinks are worked out! ?
  17. My doctor recommends Bio-K which has choices of rice, soy or milk bases. It is drinkable and found at Whole Foods or Sprout-like retailers. I use that after an antibiotic and call it the "big guns" because it is not cheap! It is certified gluten-free. I also have used Country Life (also certified) which is shelf stable. Here is another one also...
  18. Chances are, your celiac disease is not flaring provided that you are sure you did not get a gluten exposure (check those OTC medications). However, a huge chunk of your immune system resides in your gut. Researchers claim that a large percentage of celiac disease patients are not healed even after a thinking they are maintaining a gluten-free diet (2...
  19. Ah, the power of the internet. These trees are in danger from over harvesting. Open Original Shared Link
  20. I am sorry you were glutened. We attended two parties. At both, we brought our own gluten-free food from home to consume and some to share (but did not touch once it hit the buffet table). As well intentioned as family can be, unless you prepare gluten-free safe meals every single day, you just do not get it.
  21. Subscribe to a few of the gluten free magazines. My 82 year old Aunt reads those all the time. There is always something on celiac disease and lots of recipes and tips too. A few books from the library would be good too.
  22. Hi Ennis, I really can not comment about your results because I am not a doctor. I can tell you how I have handled my tests results which are comparable in terms of the Folate and B-12 (elevated off the charts). I was not supplementing at the time of my first post diagnosis annual check-up and my vitamin panel ordered by my GI indicated that my levels...
  23. Oh, read this study. Dr. fasano was on it. Look at the study's recommended diet. It found thatmmany celiac patients were getting gluten in their diet despite their best intentions. Something to consider. Open Original Shared Link
  24. No, she did not have any of the regular Crohn's symptoms. Weird, but true! At the fourth GI (celiac disease was soundly ruled out), he ordered the pill camera. She was scheduled to have in done within four days of leaving for Europe with me and the rest of our family. I encouraged her to reschedule. The damage was so severe at the end of her small intestine...
  25. I am so sorry! The small intestine, when stretched out, is about the size of a tennis court -- easy to miss damaged patches. That could be one reason. Plus, she is a teen (I have a 15 year old myself.). Dr. Fasano (Gluten Freedom), a celiac disease expert Ped GI at Harvard, did have a a patient who started eating pizza on a date. He finally confessed...
