  1. Do you have celiac disease? This is a celiac forum and that's what we are most knowledgeable about. Open Original Shared Link Amalgam fillings do not have lead that I know. What you read was probably mercury. You could have them removed, but only by a dentist who has the knowledge and skill. I think you need to do some more research so that...
  2. Welcome! Go ahead and rant! Scream and holler! Weep. It is totally normal to go through a grieving process. We have all been there! You are NOT alone! When you pick yourself off the floor, start researching. Learn about the gluten free diet. Start with easy-to-digest foods that are naturally gluten free (meat, fish, veggies, fruit, etc.)...
  3. Welcome! If you suspect you might have an issue with gluten, you should really get tested for celiac disease. At least rule it out before you go gluten free. Why? There are so many other health issues that can be related to celiac disease. Here's some information about getting an easy blood test: Open Original Shared Link If you suspect...
  4. Welcome! I am not a doctor, but with your test results you should continue to go forward in the diagnostic process. My main symptom was anemia and I didn't even have gut issues at all! People with celiac disease can present in many ways. My blood test was mildly positive yet my biopsy (via endoscopy) revealed moderate to severe intestinal...
  5. You might have a corn intolerance or reacting to something else like gums or preservatives. Just something to consider.
  6. The OP's hemoglobin levels are below range indicating anemia. Her ferrtin levels (iron storage) is very low. Like you, my body processes iron just fine. It was absorbing it that was my issue due to celiac disease. This explains it better. Open Original Shared Link Excellent recommendation regarding the Vitamin D. Other vitamins and minerals...
  7. Fat. Seriously. It is what keeps you satiated and does NOT raise blood sugar. I have been on a Low Carb, High Fat diet for 2-1/2 years. I eat to my "meter". I did a lot of testing the first month to see which foods raise my blood glucose levels (no surprise, everyone is different). Buy a cheap meter and strips at Walmart and test it yourself. I...
  8. Your ferritin was very low! My result was a 2 when I was diagnosed. I hard a hard time breathing and the fatigue was awful due to low hemoglobin levels. But after going gluten free and taking iron for a few months, I quickly recovered from iron-deficiency anemia. I still have hemologobin levels that are slightly below range due to Thalassemia which...
  9. Welcome to the forum! Well.....in theory you should be able to heal within a few months (grow new villi, etc.). The reality is that it takes so much longer -- like a year or two (I kid you not!) Why? celiac disease can damage more than just the gut. Depending on what was damaged (nerves, bones, etc) can impact healing time. The gluten-free diet...
  10. Having anxiety is a major symptom of celiac disease per many of our members on this forum (including me). These are the tests needed for diagnosing celiac disease but the catch is that you need to be consuming gluten in order for them to be valid. Open Original Shared Link Your GP or PCD doctor can order the panel. Try to go for the complete...
  11. I am glad you are feeling so much better! Your posting will encourage others. Thank you!
  12. First, I am not a doctor. It looks like your Ped ran the complete panel. It appears that your son is not IGA deficient, so when talking about Celiac Disease (celiac disease) , it means that the IgA tests are working. But that slight positive on the TTG IgG could be a false positive. Read up about it here: Open Original Shared Link Open Original...
  13. Welcome! Was he tested for an IgA deficiency? As part of the celiac panel, did he get the DGP IgA and DGP IgG tests? One positive on the celiac blood panel requires further investigation. I personally had only one positive and was classified as "mildly positive". My biopsies revealed moderate to severe small intestinal damage. If you think...
  14. Katie, it is hard to give you advice when we are not "walking in your shoes". But if I were to risk terrible symptoms if would be for artisan breads, pastries and cakes and not some tasteless old white bread.
  15. Did they run an IGA deficiency test? You might need to request a full panel that includes the DGP tests. Keep eating gluten daily or the tests can be false negatives. Of course biopsies of the small intestine can help confirm a celiac diagnosis. Be sure four to six tissue samples are taken! I hope you find answers!
  16. I am sorry that you are still ill. It can take years to recover from celiac disease because 1) the cure is based on the patient's adherence to a gluten free diet, 2) the gluten-free diet has a very steep learning curve (e.g. cross contamination) and 3) a damaged gut often can not process even gluten-free goods like corn, soy, lactose (intolerances may vary...
  17. I am sorry that you are not getting the support you need at home. That's hard. I understand about family. My own extended family had a hard time accepting my diagnosis. I was anemic and looked just fine. It wasn't until I fractured my back doing NOTHING (osteoporosis as a result of celiac disease) that they took notice (that and a huge meltdown on my...
  18. I'll jump in. I'd NEVER eat the sandwich and I would test the oatmeal after I had experienced at least six months of improved health. My husband and I can eat certified gluten-free oats without any issues. I personally avoid all grains, but that's only because I have diabetes and not just celiac disease.
  19. I am not sure that I am understanding you. Are you saying that your antibodies are down in the normal range but that you are still experiencing celiac symptoms? Or were they down during your last follow-up test and you were glutened afterwards? I guess I am not understanding the timeline. I think you need to really review your current lifestyle...
  20. I am so glad that you took the time to update us on your progress. By doing do, you are helping so many people! Hugs!
  21. I just stick to whole natural foods and do not take any supplements. I would worry about a GI who is promoting products. Plus, probiotics might be good for colitis or IBS (large intestine), but very little bacteria is in the small intestine naturally. Too much bacteria in the small intestine and you can SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) which...
  22. I use Pamela's flour blends and I have never been glutened. I do not eat it very often as I am a diabetic and all grains increase my blood sugar levels. How much gluten-free flour do you think you are eating? Do you bite your nails or put your fingers in your mouth? My thyroid became very stable once I went through menopause and healed from celiac...
  23. Yes, read the link I provided earlier. Ask for the complete test as indicated on the link. Only one of them needs to be positive in order for the doctor to refer you to a GI for an endoscopy/biopsy.
  24. Yep, that's my hubby. 15 years of being gluten free and there's no way in !@#$ he'd go on a three month gluten challenge for a proper diagnosis. Weird, thing is that I was diagnosed 12 years with celiac disease after he went gluten free. Nice though. We are both in the boat!
  25. You know, you can register a complaint with Kaiser. It might help someone else.
