  1. Please read the Newbie 101 section because YOU CAN GET GLUTENED BY SWEET BABY MOUTHS! Same goes for your partner if they consume a beer or eat a sandwich and they kiss you before brushing their teeth. Our house is gluten free. That is because both my husband and I need to be gluten free. Our 14 year old is forced to be gluten free inside our house...
  2. Yes, you sound normal. You have many factors going on. You might not be gaining weight because MIGHT have intestinal damage from celiac disease or your baby is getting bigger and needs more from you. I would not worry.
  3. I am sorry that you are feeling unwell. I am not sure you had a celiac blood panel which requires you to be eating gluten daily for 8 to 12 weeks or the tests are invalid. Here are the tests: -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace...
  4. Congratulations!
  5. So, Fenrir, are you reading "i" (which is 4 in this case) should be greater than 19?
  6. Hopefully, someone can interpret it. I am stumped!
  7. An ultrasound will just look for gall stones. A HIDA scan will check the gallbladder for functionality. Ask for a HIDA! Insist on it. My ultrasounds were always okay. My HIDA scan showed 0% functionality meaning it stopped working. I finally got the HIDA scan in the hospital because I was admitted for possible appendicitis. Something was rotting ...
  8. It looks to be gluten free, but I would worry about the last two ingredients! One in 10 are allergic to these relatively new preservatives. It is found in liquid cleaning supplies, laundry detergent shampoos, baby wipes and conditioners. I get a poison-ivy type rash! Ugh! If you have any allergies at all, I would think twice. My reaction took a...
  9. Usually for the blood test to be accurrate, you should be consuming gluten for 8 to 12 weeks and just four weeks before an endoscopy/biopsy. Do the research and share it with your doctor. The University of Chicago's celiac website is good for patients and professionals. Here is the list of celiac disease diagnostic tests: -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP...
  10. No. I am not a doctor, but celiac disease and depression are linked. I experienced a bit of anxiety before I was diagnosed. I guess being anemic, in the last year before menopause and thyroid swings made me bit crazy! But that has since resolved after going gluten free. Anemia gone, made it through menopause without surgery, and the thyroid....stable...
  11. Are you on a gluten-free diet as well?
  12. That is not what I understood. The conclusion of the study states: "These results support the hypothesis that CI may trigger CeD onset in genetically-susceptible individuals." So, a Candida (fungal) infection may trigger celiac disease. It does not mention that if a Candida infection is resolved, then the gluten intolerance will resolve as well.
  13. Way to go for being persistent! So glad you can now start the healing process!
  14. i encourage you to read our DH section. There are some great postings on how exactly to biopsy a DH rash. Lots of Derms mess up!
  15. Are you kidding? Open mouth and insert foot, girl! I guess I never should assume anything!!!!!
  16. I have not found any set ages in my limited research. The older the better, though. I would consider testing before she starts school. No one wants to be deal with being sick and going to school. I waited a year before I tested my kid (13 years old), but that was due to all the healthcare reform. We are self-employed and even though we could afford...
  17. They are not taking gluten out of the oats, but are sourcing gluten-free oats. Just want to clear that up for any newbies! Glad that there are more cereal options out there! Let's hope the price is reasonable. The cost of cereal is shocking!
  18. You have to be able to communicate with the chef. Many restaurants are using a corn and flour blend tortilla now to make it more pliable. Most often wheat flour is in the enchilada sauce. Taco shells, flautas, chimichungungas, etc (wheat flour burritos and tacos) are fried in the same fyer -- including chips. Hubby manges to get carnitas (pork) tacos...
  19. They are your kids. They are number one (spouse too). Nice to respect parents, but you have your own family to protect now. I recall my mom wanting to give ice cream to my daughter at around the age of one. I told her that we were giving her healthy foods and she will get her chance to taste junk food when she went to school. I told my mom flat...
  20. Okay, but is still a good idea to get copies of lab tests and doctor notes. The GI might have missed something in communicating with you. Doctors can make mistakes too! I really feel sorry for you and your son. I have a 14 year old and I would hate to see her suffer. Hang in there, Mom!
  21. Welcome! I think you need to get those copies of the celiac blood test panel and the biopsy/endo report. If my doc had just ordered the shorter version of the celiac blood panel (cheaper....), my diagnosis might have been missed. As far as the biopsy goes, the small intestine is vast (size of a tennis court) and it is easy to miss early damage. It...
  22. Okay. My husband has not been formally diagnosed. But he feels great after being gluten free for 14 years. He feels awful when he accidentally gets glutened. So, this leads me to believe that you might have other issues going on. What does your doctor say?
  23. Welcome! I do not have A.S., but I would encourage you to check out our Newbie 101 section under "Coping": https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ It includes valuable tips for staying gluten free as cross contamination is huge issue for those with celiac disease. I wish you well!
  24. Welcome! Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? Five years is a long time to not have symptoms improve on a gluten free diet. What does your doctor say? We are not doctors on this forum and really can only offer just practical and personal experiences of avoiding gluten due to celiac or NCGI disease.
  25. Yes, keep eating gluten if you seriously think you could have celiac disease. You will get a negative result if you are not consuming gluten. Any MD can order the necessary tests and these include: tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely...
