  1. Great catch! This drug has so many horrible side effects that the FDA makes the manufacturer print a black box warning on the drug information leaflet. Spontaneous snapping tendons and other tendon issues are the scariest (at least for a runner like me!). I took this drug after surgery and had six months of a neuropathy in one foot. Imagine a live bee...
  2. Welcome! You might want to check out Newbie 101 section. Cross contamination is a very real problem. Here is the link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  3. How is your thyroid? My Dad and his family have hand tremors. Just a nuisance and it is genetic. They do not have Parkinson's. Bobble Head Syndrome runs in my family too. Yes, it is a real disorder!
  4. For the first year, I had issues with Xanthan Gum which is added to many gluten-free products. i switched to guar gum instead when baking. In defense of Xanthan Gum, it never bothers my gluten-free hubby. He is my canary!
  5. Oh, I was anemic too. That resolved within six months after going gluten-free. But two months in, I fractured a few vertabrae DOING NOTHING! Get your bones checked.
  6. We RARELY eat out! It is just too risky. When we do, it is at a totally gluten-free restaurant or we find one that has been reviewed by a celiac. Even then, I drill the manager and chef. Very nice restaurants seem to do a great job. If I get weird vibes, I resort to my emergency food and just order a drink. Our fast food is typically a Costco...
  7. Whew! It sounds like you are getting some answers. Sorry, I could not help you with Gene testing. I never had that done, so I have not researched it.
  8. We are not doctors here, but to me, looks like you have celiac disease based on a positive blood test result and villi damage! Welcome to the club! Murphy is right about checking out the Newbie 101 thread under the "Coping Section". It contains some valuable tips -- especially about cross contamination and hidden gluten (e.g. Medications, lipstick, etc...
  9. Yep! Hashi's can take wild swings. I have been running hyper lately. It is really frustrating! My swings were severe the last year leading on to menopause. I experienced perimenopausal symptoms for 13 years! Night sweats: I bought large bath towels and kept a stack, plus a nightgown change on my bedside table -- I kid you not! Blow dryer left out...
  10. Because I just had anemia as my symptom, our doc checks my daughter for anemia. She has had just one celiac disease test since my dx in March 2013. As long as she does not become anemic and displays no other symptoms, we will test every three years. I am good with that!
  11. I think Celiac disease symptoms can wax and wane. Remember, it is an autoimmune response and can time to ramp up. It has only been ten days. A gluten challenge is usually 8 to 12 weeks for the blood test per the University of Chicago, a leading celiac disease research center.
  12. It would not interfere with any celiac testing. It is just some "good" bacteria that will help populate her colon.
  13. I went through the reviews on the Healthy Choice website. Not one mentioned that they had celiac disease (that is how I gauge the safety of a restaurant or product). Although the ingrediants are gluten free, I would be surprised if their gluten free products are made on a separate line. Next step, call the manufacturer or you could be the guinea pig and...
  14. The general rule is to keep eating gluten until all testing is complete. There could be a lab problem or the doctor may want to schedule an endoscopy. I would stay on the challenge until you have discussed the results with your doctor.
  15. I am glad it worked for you. I completely understand, but I think that taking all the currently accepted standard medical tests for diagnosing celiac disease is important. When those are negative, the other option is simply going gluten free which the experts will recommend. If you have been reading my posts, I was official diagnosed, but my husband...
  16. Here is a link about gene testing: Open Original Shared Link
  17. A one time exposure to gluten after being gluten free for six years is not going to result in a celiac disease diagnosis. It takes a while to ramp up the autoimmune response that causes damage to your intestinal tract when you have celiac disease. Your GI doc should have known that you must be consuming gluten (1 to 2 slices of bread or the equivalent...
  18. If my doc had not ordered the complete panel, I would not have been diagnosed. My TTg was very low and my total serum IGA was normal. I was positive on one of the DPG tests. My biopsy showed moderate to severe damage. Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete. A firm diagnosis would be very helpful for your son if you can get it (accommodations...
  19. And make sure she is completely hydrated....
  20. If you are not up for a gluten challenge to get a celiac disease blood panel (1 to 2 slices of bread daily for 8 to 12 weeks), then you really need to make sure you avoid your gluten mistakes! You can never cheat. Read the Newbie 101 section for tips about cross contamination, shampoos, etc. You should have had some relief after being gluten free...
  21. Karen, I freaked when I saw that Cerave sunscreen had oat in it. I had just opened a fresh bottle a few days ago. I dug the box out of the recycle bin to re-check the ingrediants. No gluten. I checked the website and the sunscreen lists oat like you said. I called the manufacturer. They recently changed the formulation! Ugh! I guess I will not...
  22. You may not have had the complete celiac blood panel. If my doctor did not order the complete panel, my diagnosis would have been missed. You might want to take a look at a copy of your lab tests. If you decide that you are going gluten free, check out our Newbie 101 tips under the "Coping" section. Welcome to the forum!
  23. Those results were from last year, right? If I recall, you are in the process of doing a gluten challenge. The blood tests should help determine if you have celiac disease. I would insist on the complete panel. Hang in there!
  24. Thanks for the update. Let us know how you tolerate Fosamax. I sincerely hope it helps you!
