  1. Well, from the test results it looks like you do not have celiac disease, but the test could be invalid if you have been gluten free. (Your signature states that you have been gluten-free since sept. 2014.). When was the blood drawn? Also, this was an incomplete panel, but again, if you were gluten free you would most likely still get a negative result...
  2. I am not an expert on exactly how celiac blood tests work and how to interpret them. I do want to share with you that anemia was my only symptom at the time of my diagnosis. I had low hemoglobin and low ferritin (iron stores) resulting in iron-deficiency anemia due to celiac disease. I also have a genetic anemia called Thalassemia which basically (for...
  3. If you went gluten free, did the rash go away? Return with even the smallest amount of gluten?
  4. You will do fine! The worst is the prep! I got pretty sick of broth and jello! I was hungry! My procedures were done at an endoscopy center across from the hospital.
  5. How old are you? Menopause or perimenopause causes insomnia for me. Like you, I avoid caffeine in the afternoon or evening. I find that an excercise class in the evening can help me fall asleep better. Nothing but Hormone Replacement has helped night sweats and being awake for hours at night. Is your thyroid okay? Running hyper can cause insomnia...
  6. I agree with BlessedMonmy. In my gluten days, I used a bread machine. That is because I worked full time. Nice to have fresh bread in the morning made while I was sleeping. Then I quit to be with my new baby and I baked from scratch. I loved kneading dough. I had time to allow for risings. But with gluten-free bread, all that kneading is is not necessary...
  7. I am sorry for your loss! I think too, that one glutening would not affect a pregnancy. I would strongly advise remaining gluten free. It is the only "cure" for celiac disease. Get yourself back to being really healthy! Take care.
  8. The University of Chicago has an excellent celiac website. They are one of the leading research hospitals. Your local library should have some books on celiac disease too.
  9. How is your thyroid? Are you deficient in anything? Have you had a follow-up celiac disease blood panel to ensure dietary compliance? Sounds a bit like my Mom's Fibromyalgia.
  10. I have eaten that brand without issues. There is another much cheaper brand at Costco, but It mentions that it is proceessed in a facility with wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, etc. Not worth the risk or the hassle of finding out if it is safe.
  11. Have you read all the postings under our DH section? It might really help you. Hang in there!
  12. Not a dumb question at all! First, how long have you been gluten free? If your intestines are still damaged, drinking can be harmful. Just like consuming milk can be harmful when villi are still blunted. That said, search this forum for threads on bars and alcohol. I usually order wine and ask for a plastic cup. Most bars clean glasses in a disinfecting...
  13. No way would I use this product. It is bound to get in my mouth! I use Cerave that can be found at Target for my lotions (thanks KarenG for the recommendation!). One of their facial lotions acts as a sunscreen as well. I use a lot of coconut oil too and it actually gets absorbed into the skin. I like the smell reminds me of the beach!
  14. Usually, the gold standard from leading researchers (e.g. University of Chicago's celiac website) for diagnosing celiac disease includes a blood panel and an endoscopy (biopsies of the intestinal wall). However, as a Canadian, I understand that it can take many months to get an endoscopy. I know that many Canadians on this forum have skipped the endoscopy...
  15. Please have the full panel run! I was only positive on one of the tests in the panel. If my doctor had only ordered the TTG tests, I never would have been diagnosed! My 13 year old tested negative but will get retested every two years or sooner if symptoms present.
  16. You need to be eating in order to get tested for celiac disease. That includes a blood panel or a skin biopsy. The only testing not requiring the consumption of gluten is a celiac gene test. This test just rules out celiac since about 30% of the population carries the genes but only 1% actually develop celiac disease. A skin biopsy is very tricky and...
  17. I am not knowledgeable about saliva tests. The standard is a blood panel followed with an endoscopy to obtain intestinal tissue samples. In any case, keep eating gluten as the doctor may go forward with the endoscopy or do other tests. Oh, anemia was my only symptom at the time I was diagnosed. Some folks have none! But you already have one autoimmune...
  18. My PN can be an electrical zap, tingling in legs, numb fingertips and itching but no rash. I was diagnosed with celiac disease almost two years ago and diabetes a year ago. I am not sure that I can attribute my PN with either one of those disorders. I just do not know. I had severe electrical jolts (imagine a bee buzzing inside your foot....something...
  19. You bet! That is how my non-celiac daughter can tell if her mom and dad have been glutened. "Did you guys get glutened? You are acting like it." Sure enough one of us will say, "Oh, I ate out today!" We definitely get grumpy!
  20. I buy deli meat when we travel (love turkey wrapped around string cheese). I typically buy those packaged from the factory and marked gluten free. Your deli could have been crossed contaminated in the slicer or the worker who just made a sandwich and did not change gloves. You might be having an issue with nitrates or seasonings. I can not eat hot...
  21. From what I understand (being a celiac and diabetic who has had Neuropathies and brain fog), neurological damage takes a long time to heal and sometimes damage is permanent. Leading researchers are now aware that gluten can affect the brain and nervous system but they are not sure how. Science is trying to catch up. Your last biopsy has improved...
  22. Okay, then you really have to make sure you are gluten free. Here is a link to our Newbie 101 thread under our coping section: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ You really have to watch out for cross contamination, lipsticks and hand lotions....anything that is possibly going to get swallowed. It is a shame that you are...
  23. Here is the complete celiac panel. I would ask for a retest and insist on the complete panel. I tested negative on both the TTGs. Only one positive on the DGP and my total serum was fine, yet I had moderate to severe intestinal damage. -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and...
  24. I guess I am researching because I will be going for my follow-up scan in July. Just doing it a little sooner. I am going to be facing the same decisions you are facing now. Whatever you decide, it will be right for you. There are no easy answers. You will be confident that you made the right decision because you did research!
  25. This was an interesting article found in Consumer Reports: Open Original Shared Link
