  1. I am sorry that you are struggling! First, it is really hard actually going gluten free! The learning curve is steep! I went gluten free in April 2013. I fractured a couple of vertebrae a few months later due to undiagnosed celiac disease. It took about six months to feel any relief, but my main celiac disease symptom was anemia (fatigue and shortness...
  2. I think you might be confused about celiac disease (celiac disease). celiac disease is an autoimmune response (GI tract damaged) to gluten. It is an autoimmune disorder like Multiple Sclerosis, thyroiditis, type 1 diabetes, etc. You may have celiac disease or you may have a wheat allergy. Testing is different for both. Here is a link from the University...
  3. Keep eating gluten until ALL testing is done! I know that it is hard and you want to move on and feel better, but all the medical experts in celiac disease recommend eating gluten until all testing (blood and biopsy) is completed.
  4. Alas, I am diabetic, so I am limited to my one or two little squares of Endangered Species certified gluten free chocolate which I hoard. Hubby and kid consume Skittles, Starburst and Smarties as chocolate does not agree with hubby. Kid's friend is highly allergic to milk and she consumes Skittle and Starburst too. There are many choices out there! ...
  5. It appears that you have been getting gluten. I recall you had been talking a multi that contained gluten just a few weeks ago by mistake. Yikes! A tiny amount can really cause a reaction (start the autoimmune response). You have definitive proof and not just symptoms! I know that you learned the lesson of always checking labels every single time as...
  6. Would be nice if his ferrtin levels were checked. Hemoglobin levels can go up and down with unstable iron stores (ferritin). With a high TTG, he most likely does have celiac disease. I only had one positive DGP IGA that was positive. The rest of my tests were normal. Biopsy found severe damage. Your case is strange. Keep us posted about the...
  7. Even though I just had anemia at the time of my diagnosis, I found that I had constipation. I had a BM everyday that I thought was normal. And if it was not normal it leaned more to being loose. But during my prep for my routine colonoscopy (they did the endoscopy at the same time), I still was not cleaned out with all the prep that I did. I discovered...
  8. The results you showed were from a CBC panel. I am not a doctor, but I would not worry with these results. I think you first have to focus on eliminating a Celiac disease diagnosis. celiac disease can mess up so many things! Your hemoglobin is good, but that is not good enough. Your doctor should be concerned about your iron stores (ferritin). I was...
  9. A few days should not make a difference. Eat a few slices of bread each day unto the blood draw.
  10. Keep eating it until all testing is complete. I hope you feel better soon!
  11. Welcome to the club! Do you plan on doing the endoscopy?
  12. Primer? Is that foundation? I use a mineral powder as my foundation. It is gluten-free. I think most are as they contain very few ingredients. I use Cerave face lotion (made in the US ) with sunscreen as my base. It is gluten free. A green concealer helps cover red areas. My daughter uses that to cover blemishes. Do you have celiac disease? Then...
  13. One of our forum members is an MD (newborns - neonatologist) with celiac disease. She finally had to ban gluten from her house as she was getting glutened by her kids! I am sure her kids are healthy without gluten on a daily basis. Hubby and I are both gluten free. Our kid is gluten-free in the house. She gets pre-packaged gluten food in her lunch...
  14. Stephanie, Here is a link from the University of Chicago regarding a gluten challenge. Yes, it states just two weeks of eating 1/2 slice of bread daily for two weeks prior to an endoscopy and 12 weeks for the blood test: Open Original Shared Link After my "barely positive" blood test, I consumed gluten like crazy prior to my endoscopy. Literally, I...
  15. Have you tried contacting your local Girl Scout council?
  16. Sorry, no. My kitty has been gone for three years. I can not recall the cost. Not sure they carry it since I do not look for it anymore. (and I was just there 1/2 hour ago and could have checked!)
  17. Grain free for my dog (and for my old kitty who is now gone......). I get mine at Costco. It is just easier on us and she is thriving!
  18. What are you reacting to? We use A-1 by Kraft and hubby and I have had no gluten reaction. There is no malted barley in it (at least in the U.S.) in it. I am looking at a bottle that I purchased just this month. Your link to Wikipedia even states that the US version does not contain malted vinegar. Wikipedia is good, but it should not be a reliable...
  19. I think you need to do some more research. My daughter is 13. I had allergies (milk, egg, nuts) when I was pregnant and my husband was gluten free. My allergist and his GP suggested going off gluten to eliminate symptoms he had. What do you know? He was cured! Now, he refuses to do a challenge. Does he have celiac disease? We think so as autoimmune...
  20. Let's see if I can explain it. The Thalassemia means tiny blood cells. Hard to get in oxygen, but my case is mild. Hemoglobin is always just out of range or just within the range barely. Each period would cause a slight drop in hemoglobin (when I was young). By the next period, I would recover. But, what never really recovered over the years was my...
  21. Yippee! I hope this pans out. Remember Dunkin Donuts? They were supposed to offer a pre-packaged gluten-free pastry. It never happened to my knowledge (or I gave up going to every store in my area for six months after the announcement).
  22. I was diagnosed in 2013. Anemia was my only symptom at the time (already knew about thyroid and allergy issues). Hubby went Gluten free 14 years ago per the bad advice of his GP and my allergist (we wish he had been tested since his mom had MS and another autoimmune disorders run in his family). We assume he has celiac disease. We know that gluten...
  23. Only my DGP IGA was positive. All others on the complete celiac panel were normal. My biopsy showed severe intestinal damage. I think you both need endoscopies. If you choose not to, then go gluten free. Chances are you have celiac disease. I went with the biopsy because my husband had been gluten free for over a decade. I could not believe that we...
  24. We just go to a regular GP. Gave up my daughter's Ped when she started school. I grew up just going to a family doctor. A GP/PCP can easily order a celiac panel. Just be sure it is complete and education yourself. The University of Chicago's celiac website is a good place to start.
