  1. Look, I think I mentioned this before...I was diagnosed (no DH) last year, but my husband went gluten free per the mis-guided advice of my allergist and his GP. He did it. His symptoms went away. Ate gluten accidentally and all his symptoms would return. He has been gluten-free for 13 years. Does he wish for a diagnosis? He says that I have received...
  2. How about contacting this group? Open Original Shared Link
  3. Ha! I get being different! I have a 13 year old who is now very aware of what people think and strives to fit in. That really blossomed when she went to middle school. Her best friend has a severe peanut and milk allergy and through the years everyone has accommodated her without making her feel like an outsider. Because of all the autoimmune disorders...
  4. I would go with the genetic test first. When you get the results, you can determine with your GI if you need to do a challenge.
  5. My heart goes out to you. Making a decision for yourself is hard but to have to do so for your children is even harder. I do not think you made a mistake regarding any of your children. It sounds like your daughter may have another medical issue. Honestly, eating gluten free is not awful. I impose the gluten-free diet on my own kid but do allow her...
  6. Why not contact UC San Diego? They have a celiac center. Open Original Shared Link
  7. Have you had celiac blood tests? I know that DH presents differently but the blood test is a start. Hubby and I do not have DH, but I am formally diagnosed (2013) with celiac disease and he went gluten-free per the advice of my allergist and his GP 13 years ago. All his symptoms went away and he has been gluten-free ever since. Would he have preferred...
  8. Ah, we ALL get that look from food servers. Eating out with ease is what I miss most!
  9. More dumb questions. Have you given up dairy? Identified other food intolerances? Have you been retested to see how well you have improved? Does your doctor have any ideas? Any other autoimmune disorders?
  10. Welcome! How long have you bee gluten free?
  11. Welcome to the forum! Take a minute to read our Newbie 101 thread under the "Coping" section. Here is a direct link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ Then ask lots of questions.
  12. Keep us posted. Be sure to get copies of your lab tests!
  13. Yes! Eating gluten free or gluten light can affect your blood tests. Not to mention that it appears that you did not get a complete celiac blood panel. I tested barely positive on just one of the tests and my biopsy showed severe damage and I was eating gluten like crazy. Here is the complete panel: Complete Celiac Blood Panel tTG IgA and tTG IgG...
  14. What is your definition of "small amounts, almost daily"? When I had my kid tested I gave her noodles, bread, cakes, crackers everyday in her lunch and added a few gluten dinners outside of the house for two months to insure an accurate result. She tested negative on the complete celiac panel and a CBC was ordered since anemia was my main symptom.
  15. Hey, we are having Spaghetti tonight using this very product!
  16. I must have been asleep at the wheel and missed your update! Congratulations! I am so happy for you.
  17. I would be more concerned with the low iron. What is causing her levels to drop when they had improved initially six months after going gluten free? I live in Sunny California, but we are conditioned to wear sunscreen. Many here have vitamin D deficiencies as a result. I was deficient in vitamin D despite supplementation at the time I was diagnosed...
  18. I had low iron (ferritin) and vitamin D at my dx, but my levels are now normal after a year and a half of being gluten free. Has she has another TTG? It appears that she may be getting gluten somewhere.
  19. You are probably reacting to the tannin that can be found in the skin, seeds and stems of the grapes. Red wines have more. I love red wine, but it does not like me. It really triggers my Rosacea!
  20. Complete Celiac Blood Panel tTG IgA and tTG IgG DGP IgA and DGP IgG EMA IgA total serum IgA - a control test AGA IgA and AGA IgG - less reliable older tests endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken Here is more info from the University of Chicago's celiac website: Open Original Shared Link Try to get a complete panel. I was only...
  21. So, true. My advice was strictly from a viewpoint of celiac disease and not a wheat allergy. I confess I do take an anti-histamine when I go to my SIL's house because of her cat!
  22. My response to your question is, "Who knows?" I sincerely hope that you feel better soon! The flu and a glutening! Take care and drink plenty of water.
  23. It was cookie day at my S I L's house. Over 500 rolled out sugar cookies were made and the flour dust was flying. She has a big kitchen and I sat in the eating area, at least 8 feet away. I never walked through the kitchen. Hubby stayed in the living room playing poker. We ate our own food and gluten-free cookies I had made from home. We did NOT get...
  24. If converting from a regular recipe, use less gluten-free flour. It tends to absorb more liquid. For example, I use Pamela's gluten-free flour blend and make Toll-house chocolate chips cookies. The old recipe calls for 2-1/4 cup and I use just 2 cups of gluten-free flour. I will add a bit more back into the recipe if my eggs are super large. Just set...
  25. Hi! Welcome to the forum. It is the weekend, so the forum is pretty quiet. Someone who might be able to interpret your results should show up soon.
