  1. My take? Standard protocol requires that you keep eating gluten until all testing is complete like Karen said. My endo was scheduled seven weeks out, so I took advantage by bidding a fond farewell to all my favorite gluteny foods! A biopsy will determine the amount of damage and will rule out a few other things like SIBO, ulcers, cane, ulcers, etc....
  2. Are you trying to avoid all yeast (natural too)? I think that is pretty much impossible. The stuff just floats in the air! Are you doing a anti-candida diet or avoiding something that showed up on an allergy test? If so, avoid obvious yeast that manufacturers put in to their products and stick to unprocessed foods as much as possible and eliminate or...

    ARCHIVED Washcloth

They did not like the thermos? My daughter has been taking one since the kindergarten. I pack soup, meatloaf, chili, tamales, enchiladas, burritos, noddles, Mac and cheese, noddles with chicken and cheese, fried rice, whatever can be crammed in. Preheat the thermos with hot water. It will keep it warm. She still is using the same thermos since she...
  4. Have not been there yet! But I highly recommend printing off celiac cards printed in Spanish to hand out at restaurants etc. They worked great in Europe. But be prepared for some restaurants to say they can not accommodate you. Bring gluten-free food with you like Lara bars, fruit, etc always as a back-up. Open Original Shared Link Have fun!
  5. I never had an issue with coffee or tea, but I bet if you give it up for a while and allow time for healing, you'll get that coffee back!
  6. Possible intolerances and glutenings could be occurring, but you said it yourself -- you are improving. It can take up to three years to feel really well. Is your gallbladder okay? Mine was non-functioning (0%) but my pain always presented in my lower abdomen and never near my gallbladder. I struggled with that pain for thirty years (gallbladder...
  7. Sorry to hear about your struggles. But I am happy that you got a diagnosis! It can only get better from here!
  8. Besides coconut oil, I love Tea Tree Oil which has both anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Even covering with petroleum jelly would help heal a cut. But I would go with the coconut oil. Safe to eat, so it's safe on your skin.
  9. Good for you! I was diagnosed with so diabetes which I am controlling by not eating sugar. I wish I had given it up sooner. I feel much better without it.
  10. Bart, sorry to hear that bread is so expensive in your area. You have my permission to console yourself with some decadent ice cream!
  11. Sorry to hear about your mom. Did she get an endoscopy after the positive celiac blood tests? They usually check for SIBO then. A colonoscopy could reveal things like ulcerative colitis, etc. You should get tested for celiac disease. Gallbladder issues are common for celiac disease folks. After mine was removed (non-functioning) I felt great....
  12. It does suck! But.....I can offer some encouragement. My food allergies have diminished greatly. I am tolerating eggs for the first time in my life. I can not over do it (nausea) but the fact I can eat a soft-boiled egg is amazing! I am still allergic to milk (casein) but I am no longer lactose intolerant. Does that make sense? I can consume cheese...
  13. I am so sorry! Hang in there! I am not going to repeat all the good advice you have received. Just change your profile picture. Who knows if your mom (if she is diagnosed) might find this forum (at least until you are out of the house!). She might guess, but she will never know for sure...... I guess anonymity is the reason why I prefer forums...
  14. That's a good recipe. I do not use egg in mine. I add a Tbl of brown sugar, apple vinegar, and some cinnamon in mine when making apple pies. Cold lard (or butter or mixture of) is best and that water should be ice water. It will give you a flakey crust. Do not overwork the dough. Use a fork, fingers or pastry knife to mix the dough. Add the water a...
  15. Thanks for the update. But...what was your TSH? If it is high (hypo) you might need more thyroid replacement (it is not a drug....) It is worrisome to be out of breath. My anemias (iron-deficiency and Thals) have done that. You are taking b12 injections. Is your b12 serum blood level increasing? I assume your hemoglobin is okay and you do not have...
  16. Lard, bacon grease, butter, olive oil, I use it all! I prefer real fats! I combo my pie crusts with lard and butter. Yum!

    ARCHIVED Washcloth

Yes, gluten can be stuck in your dishcloth. I wash dishes by hand. I keep separate sponges like Karen. I only make noodles for my gluten-eating kid and let her have a bowl of Cherrios. That is it for gluten in my kitchen. I use paper towels, her sponge to clean her designated gluten pot, colander, and cereal bowl. I wipe down the counter with a paper...
  18. Oh, I read the product label (funny, I am opening a new bag this evening.....) and I can find only vitamin E and they do not indicate the source, but chances are it is highly refined. I can vouch again that we have never been glutened by this dog food. Because my dog does not do well on grains (maybe she has celiac disease too!), I do not give her...
  19. I use it for my lab. She is thriving on it. Better yet, we do not get glutened!
  20. There are over 300 symptoms for celiac disease. It is hard to say if she has it. The tests for celiac disease can be found on this link to the University of Chicago's celiac website: Open Original Shared Link Best wishes to you and your daughter!
  21. I will jump in on the makeup conversation. I use Cerave lotions and sunscreens on my face (Banana Boat suncreens on my body). I also love coconut oil as others have mentioned in other posts. Physicians Formula products (foundation and cover ups) are gluten free. Mineral foundation formulations are typically gluten free. I make sure my shampoo is...
  22. Hey Charlie! Welcome to the forum! Most of us have been in your position and were told that it was "all in your head". I am glad that you are on the road to recovery!
  23. I send my kid to school with a lunch that is full of gluten. I usually buy her pre-packaged gluten items. I treat her to a gluten snack (fast food) when we are running errands. She gets plenty of gluten.
  24. Kids love those round EOS lip balms. They come in many flavors and are gluten free. We use them.
