  1. Keep in advocating for your child! Never give up! That said, here are the tests. Make sure the panel is complete. Often they screen using the TTg but in my case I was negative. If my GI had not run the entire panel, my diagnosis would have been missed. -tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test...
  2. I hear ha! At the time I was pregnant, I was undiagnosed, but had allergies to eggs, nuts and milk. My husband was gluten free based on the poor advice from my allergist and his GP. Oh, he is doing great, but a firm diagnosis would be great! I avoided all my allergens while I was pregnant and nursing. My kid was super healthy. I did not feed her...
  3. I agree with Stephanie. It sounds like your son has a milk allergy -- not just an intolerance based on your posting (severe milk protein intolerance). While most celiacs have issues with milk due to intestinal damage, it is usually a lactose (milk sugar) intolerance that resolves with intestinal healing. A casein (milk protein) allergy is different. ...
  4. Yogurt come to mind -- plain. Yogurt and hard cheese have less lactose, but it still contains lots of milk protein. Butter would have the least milk protein. What formula was he on as a baby, if he was intolerant to both cow's milk and breast milk? You know, damage to intestinal villi can occur from milk and other things beside gluten. I urge you...
  5. My advice is to avoid gluten-free bread as a newbie. Give yourself time to forget gluten-containing bread. That way you will not be disappointed!
  6. Sorry, but I have a hard time using lye to clean off porous cast iron pans that food is cooked in. I googled it and folks are doing it but I would not! Oven cleaner is just that -- to clean ovens (stainless, porcelain, etc whiich are hard non-porous surfaces). Even the brand Easy Off off does not even suggest it on their website. I would stick to...
  7. I think that is it. My guess is that the KP is hormone related. It happened to me on my arms for one summer. Doctor had prescribed testosterone in addition to the estrogen and progestrone and KP was the result. Arms became nice and smooth a few months after I stopped the testosterone. I thought my sleeveless days were over!
  8. Tri-tip steak, roasted asparagus, buttered carrots, and salad for the birthday girl who turned 14! gluten-free Chocolate mayonnaise cake and a gluten-free chocolate mint chip ice cream pie! Can not wait!
  9. Most of the fat bombs are for low carb folks (like me). Use real sweeteners.
  10. Butter, lots of it, fat bombs (Google recipe), heavy cream, cheese, whole milk yogurt.....fat is no longer the "bad guy".
  11. I think you need more time. Time to make sure you are not getting cross contaminated, eating hidden sources of gluten, etc. It takes months to recover. Remember, gluten sets off an autoimmune response. Then there are the intolerances that go along with a damaged gut. Eat things that are cooked through and easy to digest. Eating lots of raw fruit and...
  12. If you cooked a lot of veggie burgers and other glutinous things in your grille, gluten can still be lurking. If it is an outdoor grille, take out the racks and scrub them. Wipe the inside of the grille lid if possible. Place the racks back in and then turn on the grille to high. Let it "bake" for an hour. All remaining gluten should be burnt off. No...
  13. I would try the Zyrtec and a Nedi pot. Let's face it, some of us have allergies and nothing natural that I have found (outside the Nedi pot helps). My congestion is seasonal. So, if it is year round you might suspect a few foods too. Can not avoid the pollen, weeds, etc outside. Do you consume garlic? I can smell that on anyone!
  14. Wow! The drug info on PubMed specifically says your PPI interferes with many drugs including the absorption of iron! No wonder your ferritin levels have not improved!
  15. FYI, Jebby who posted about Mast Cell is a medical doctor (Peditrician). So, this is not a quack illness!
  16. Read some of the threads in the Kids section of the forum. We have several families who tested negative but thrive on a gluten-free diet. Since your son has improved so much....might be worth sticking to to the diet and possibly allowing for him to grow!
  17. Well, the TTG was positive. It was not a complete celiac blood panel, so you could ask for the complete one. You can tell your doctor that you would feel better taking a complete panel and chances are you would adhere to the gluten-free diet. Nothing might have shown on the biopies (about six is recommended) because not enough were taken or you are in...
  18. I did not ask for follow-up testing because I had been living with my gluten-free husband for over a decade. I knew the gluten-free drill and any mishaps affect two people now. I did ask for CBC panel with Ferritin since anemia was my only symptom at the time of my diagnosis (resolved in six months). For most folks, I think a follow-up celiac panel is...
  19. I am short on time too! Here is the list of the complete blood test and endoscopy exam and biopsies. Often docs order a smaller celiac blood test to save money, but then they do not catch everyone (like me!): tTG IgA and tTG IgG -DGP IgA and DGP IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests...
  20. My husband is an unconfirmed celiac who went gluten-free over the poor advice from both his GPA and my allergist. He has been gluten-free for 14 years. I am still new -- diagnosed two years ago. You can go gluten-free! Please do your research and learn about hidden sources of gluten and cross contamination (like kisses from gluteny toddlers or kissing...
  21. Every medical procedure has risks -- every single one! Everyone should do their own research (preferably from reliable sources) and talk to their physicians. In the past, I have gone for 2nd or 3rd medical opinions and paid cash for their unbiased advice. There is so much information or reporting about endoscopy equipment and it is confusing. If someone...
  22. Yep, you might not have Hashi's or you might, but first, you need to resolve your Vitamin D and Ferritin levels. Solve one issue at a time. I stopped supplements six months after my dx because my levels improved to normal. I get most of my nutrients from whole foods and take calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D in one supplement for osteoporosis. That is...
  23. DNA testing is NOT definitive for celiac disease testing. About 30% of the population carry the genes for celiac disease yet only 1% actually go on to develop it. Gene testing helps rule out celiac disease. Lots of folks here have had a negative biopsy, negative blood tests, and even negative Gene tests and have found relief on a gluten-free diet....
  24. What were the results of the complete celiac blood panel and how many biopsies were taken? Were you consuming gluten before the test? If you were gluten light or not consuming gluten, chances are the test will be invalid.
