  1. I took it for a month base on pub med (US gov) research. It seems to aid in intestinal healing, but I do not think anyone has tested it for healing after a celiac disease diagnosis. Hence, U of C can not support it. It did no harm. Did it work? I have no proof. My doctor is a firm believer that the mind can do wonderful things though....
  2. Sorry, Ninja, but you are wrong! Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website (they are one of the world's leading research and treatment centers) regarding testing: Open Original Shared Link There is a celiac blood panel which tests for antibodies and requires you to be consuming gluten every day for a period of about two months. If you...
  3. Hubby and I are both gluten free. He has been gluten free for 13 years now. I did all the cooking in our shared kitchen. I was very careful. Then I got diagnosed. We went gluten free 99% because my health and my husband's is more important than my daughter making gluteny things in the kitchen! It was two to one! And I was just too sick to worry...
  4. Wow! You have a lot on your plate! Here are some suggestions not knowing your complete situation..... -- HRT can resolve some anxiety and reduce or eliminate perimenopausal symptoms. I get mine from a compounding pharmacy. It is a lifesaver. But, not everyone can use it. -- Cortisol for adrenal fatigue, but that requires a prescription. -- Stop...
  5. Hey, my husband does not have a formal diagnosis. My allergist and his GP suggested 13 years ago that he give up gluten just to see if he felt better -- and he did! No more hellish snoring ( that affected me), no more body aches, and fatigue! He knows when he gets glutened too! Even though I was only diagnosed in March of 2013, I have dealt with allergies...
  6. That cereal has just wheat, barley extract, sugar and some vitamins. Besides wheat, oil, salt and possibly eggs, bread contains yeast and other ingredients to make it shelf stable. I would suspect yeast or one of the other ingredients over gluten.
  7. The anemia resolved in six months. I will not get another bone scan until July 2015. I am on HRT, calcium, vit. D, Magnesium and exercise to build bone. My ribs and hips no longer ache when sleeping on my side, so I think I am building bone!
  8. Some doctors can not get past the fact that some patients have symptoms that do not involve the intestinal tract! They just are not educated about celiac disease!
  9. My 13 year has not tested positive for celiac disease, but I give her gluten-free Gummie type Vitamins (e.g. Calicum, multi and omega-3). But, even though your son is a kid and they can heal faster, I think you need more time for healing. I would ask your doctor to check for deficiencies before adding single ingredient type vitamins. It can be easy to...
  10. I agree! Why bother? You have a positive biopsy. No sense making you sicker! But...I am not a doctor, that is certain. I went for a routine colonoscopy when during my pre-op consult, my GI suspected celiac disease based on anemia. I was shocked! Blood test was positive but I waited 7 weeks for the biopsy. I went gluten crazy as a final farewell...
  11. What? I have a 13 year old who eats gluten, but outside of my house! Literally, it is eaten at school, at a friends or in the backyard and then she must wash her hands! Sounds crazy, but my husband and I need a safe zone away from gluten. No extended family or friends bring gluten into our house. Those are our rules. There are a few exceptions (like...
  12. My ferritin started at a 2 and went to 55 with supplementation after my diagnosis. Prior to my dx, with supplementation, it would increase to, say 22. If I stopped the iron supplements, it dropped back to single digits. Anemia was my only known symptom at the time of my diagnosis.
  13. Hang in there! Looks like you will have a diagnosis soon. Be sure to take a look at the newbie thread located on this forum under "Coping": https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ Moms with small children will show up to comment -- they are probably getting their little ones ready for bed now! Hope your son feels better fast.
  14. Eat more fat and protein even while you are doing a gluten challenge. I am a diabetic (not typed yet) and I eat a low carb-high fat diet. Eat fish, meats, oils, cheese (though new celiacs often have issues with dairy temporarily due to intestinal damage), add coconut oil to your coffee, add butter to your veggies. Lots of olive oil on your greens. Fat...
  15. That fun loving person will be back! Geez, you still have a little one and you are sick on top of it! I am no longer that crazy menopausal, celiac-damaged, anemic, back-fractured, thyroid-swinging maniac that I once was! It is great having a 13 year (who is food prepping and loading up the RV as I type). Though I miss her being a cute 4year old. Schools...
  16. I guess I better get a pig and keep him in the backyard in case of earthquakes! I suppose I could dry out his thyroid.......ha! Seriously, I get 100 tablets of my Armour Thyroid to have on hand. I pay cash as it is so cheap. My dosage changed over the last two years so much that I have extra on hand...
  17. Welcome! Here is a link to our newbie thread: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ My only symptom was anemia. I was shocked. But later found out that I had other issues like Osteoporosis. It seems like your doctor is willing to go with the blood test alone instead of doing a biopsy, but that is okay! Let us know if you...
  18. Hey, that perimenopause thing? It can last up to 10 years! I started with severe night sweats six months after my daughter's birth (at 40). Doc said I was lucky that I had my daughter. I have had every peri menopausal symptom on and off over the course of 12 years. What did help was additional hormones. My cancer risk was low and the HRT (by a compounding...
  19. Cholesterol going up? That could be a sign of healing! All those years of a low cholesterol levels (116 total) and doctors congratulating me for managing it so well and it was Celiac Disease! My check-up last January showed a score of 132. I have been consuming more fats to increase the total and my HDL. The latest research indicates that really low...
  20. I still think you need time to heal, but....you may have developed food intolerances. Start a food journal. I have had allergies all my life, but have developed a few intolerances since I have been diagnosed with celiac disease. For example, Xanthan gum affects me intestinally just the way gluten does. I kept eating gluten-free bread that would affect...
  21. NSAIDs are fine for those with celiac disease. Everything in moderation. It should be okay while your foot is healing. Check the label for any gluten fillers as always. I can not take them because I am allergic to them -- not because I have celiac disease. You may have read about others having issues on this forum, but I think that is due to long term...
  22. I am not a DH expert (since I have not experienced it), but previous posters have described it as being insanely itchy. So, it could be DH. Cold compresses can help. Do not take steroids (even topically) and search within this forum for proper testing procedures you can share with your doctor. It is tricky to get a skin biopsy. Continue to consume...
  23. 10 days after a glutening is normal, to me at least! Hope you feel better soon!
  24. Have you checked the newbie section (see the link below)? It has some helpful tips. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ I have a non-celiac 13 old daughter who lives in a gluten free household. She loves my gluten free cakes and cookies. Do you bake? Other than those items, she eats gluten-free bread and pasta, but we are big...
  25. Could be neuropathy as a result of celiac disease.
