ARCHIVED Aww, Man! I Forgot About Gsc Season!
cyclinglady replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I have eaten the cookies and they are certified gluten free in a dedicated facility. -
My hips and rib cage really bothered me and I never made the connection to bone loss. It was so bad that I hade to get out of bed because I could not stand it, but it has resolved. I hope this is a sign that I am building bone! From my research, I don't think teeth will recover, gum disease yes, but not the actual teeth.

ARCHIVED Glutened By Eos Lip Balm?
cyclinglady replied to brooklyngal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use that same strawberry one. I do not get glutened. -
Yep! Me too. celiac disease has impacted my bones. I have osteopenia and osteoporosis (vertebrae fracture this past year). Have you had a bone scan?

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Linked To Asthma And Possibly Ischemic Heart Disease
cyclinglady replied to answerseeker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good to hear about your asthma improving by going gluten-free! Here's my two cents about your upcoming stress test. Will be it be nuclear or on a treadmill? The nuclear test is tough. I got pretty sick and afterwards they didn't even have any gluten-free for me in the department of the hospital. I had to do the nuclear since I had just fractured... -

What does hubs say about storing in plastic? I have never heated in plastic thanks to Dad who did not want plastic in his leftovers. -

ARCHIVED Lulu's In Palm Springs? Disneyland?
cyclinglady replied to Nikki2777's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Checkout websites like Find-Me-Gluten Free. Are there any others? Disneyland is pretty good bout offering gluten-free. There is a PF Chang's within a mile of the park. There is an In-N-Out four miles north on Harbor Blvd. -- just ask them to cook your burger on a separate grille, mention gluten allergy and their fries are cooked in a dedicated fryer... -
ARCHIVED Am I Likely To Be Dx-Ed? Please Help!
cyclinglady replied to Justscared's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not have much time but my husband is gluten-free, overweight and out of shape. He has been gluten-free for 13 years. He consumes ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, chips, candy besides the heathy foods that I push. Going gluten-free does not mean that you will eat healthy whole foods! He did get rid of his gluten-free symptoms: snoring, sinus infections... -
ARCHIVED Cleaning An Oven-Is It Necessary
cyclinglady replied to Jackie F's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If your oven is self-cleaning, DO NOT USE OVEN cleaner or you will damage your oven! Just run the clean cycle and wipe up the crumbs and wash off the walls and ceiling with mild soap and water. -
ARCHIVED Am I Likely To Be Dx-Ed? Please Help!

That is why our Heath care system is so messed up! Well, one of the reasons. Labs typically charge much less if you are paying cash. -
ARCHIVED Am I Likely To Be Dx-Ed? Please Help!
cyclinglady replied to Justscared's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If both tests are negative, you can NOT be assured that you do not have NCGI! Some people do not have intestinal damage, but the feel better on a gluten-free diet that relieves them of many symptoms. There is no test to diagnose (dx) NCGI. Only strictly adhering to the diet for six to nine months will help you and your doctor make the NCGI dx. Beyond... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis Received
cyclinglady replied to SimonSez0721's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would try the gluten-free diet for six months before messing with my gut with surgery. I am not a doctor, just passing information about my aunt. We have a gallbladder curse in our family and since I am the first to get a dx with celiac disease, I think the root cause has been gluten. Two more members are gluten free even though they did not test for...- 15 replies

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Received
cyclinglady replied to SimonSez0721's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would certainly consider going gluten-free for six months. It certainly can not hurt and your doc did give you the NCGI diagnosis. I was formally diagnosed last year, but my husband has been gluten-free for 13 years. He went gluten-free at the advice of his GP and felt great. No more snoring, chronic sinus infections, bad body aches (like the flu...- 15 replies

ARCHIVED To Anyone In Moab, Ut!
cyclinglady replied to MissHaberdasher's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We always travel with a cooler -- even before we went gluten-free. We now travel in a RV which makes it super easy, but I went on girl's weekend (kids too) and I was the only one who had celiac disease. I brought the cooler, used the hotel frig and tailgates when I was not able to find safe food. I also kept a GO Picnic and other shelf stable foods in... -
ARCHIVED Dating Thoughts And Profile Help
cyclinglady replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hooked the most guys with picnic dates. We would pick a park to hike, go to a museum and then picnic or hang at the beach. Everyone begged for repeat picnics. A cute basket with real plates and glasses, nice blanket, bottle of wine, brownies, chicken salad and whatever takes your imagination! My husband still requests picnic dates! Good luck and... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Feeling Desperate. How Long Before I See Improvement?
cyclinglady replied to BeckyB.'s topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Welcome to the forum, Crazyitch! I do not have DH, so I can't offer any insight. I do have celiac disease and have been gluten-free for almost a year. Please take some time to read all about DH from some of our old pros. If you do not get a quick response to your posting, try creating a new thread. I hope you find your answers! -
ARCHIVED Milk Allergy And Celiac Proving To Be Quite Difficult :(

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies - Horrible!
cyclinglady replied to sschevychevelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have the new gluten-free chocolate chip Shortbread cookies. Our troop is selling them. I admit, the are not as good as my homemade chocolate chip cookies, but the are not bad for a commercially baked cookie. The bakery did use two gums which affect the texture a bit, but I suspect that they were trying to kids from pulverizing them. I ate one and... -
ARCHIVED Muffin Tin Breakfast Quiches?
cyclinglady replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No quiche recipe, but I just sent my husband off with a ham and egg sandwich in hand. Takes about five minutes to prepare. I take a variety of porridges to go cooked in a mini crockpot overnight or on the stove which takes less than 10 minutes. At work, I used to nuke sweet potatoes or butternut squash with cinnamon etc. and have a defrosted chicken breast... -
ARCHIVED Red Velvet Cupcakes

I agree! It's so much easier typing on my laptop (like I'm doing now)! I confess the convenience of the ipad is really nice! Maybe I should spring for a wireless keyboard for my ipad -- but it's got to be laptop-sized and not one of those tiny keyboards. Sorry, the for confusion!- 20 replies

ARCHIVED Needing Words Of Advice/encouragement
cyclinglady replied to CajunChic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like Nicole suggested, wait for six months before attempting to make or eat a King's Cake. That way you'll "forget" what the wheat version tastes like. It's bound to be good. I just served homemade gluten-free chocolate mayonnaise cupcakes to three gluten eaters and they couldn't even tell the difference. I was in a totally gluten-free restaurant this... -

ARCHIVED Needing Words Of Advice/encouragement
cyclinglady replied to CajunChic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ah, King cake! I have not tried a GFversion yet, but it should not only be possible, but delicious. Start a separate thread and I bet someone has a good recipe or google it. There are several gluten-free recipes available. They all use for yeast and will take a little time, but perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
