  1. I have had Hashi's for 16 years. Was diagnosed when the nodules were found during a routine exam. They have never changed. Hope that gives you more piece of mind.
  2. Just touching it. One less thing to worry about especially with kids in the house. We do not have a cat anymore, but our dog is grain free.
  3. Xanthan gum does not agree with me which makes it hard to purchase commercially baked products. I get good results using guar gum.
  4. My husband found that many restaurants use oil that contain barley. Ask for a clean frying pan (no grille) and butter. That said, Karen is right, you should get tested. I am officially diagnosed, but my husband is not. He refuses to get tested now that he has been gluten free for 13 years. He would tell you that I have had so much more support from...
  5. Google Find Me Gluten Free or Yelp to find restaurants and read the reviews. You can always grab a protein-style burger at In-n-Out. Request wheat allergy and have them cook it on a separate grille. If they do no have a second grille, do not eat a burger. Enjoy Las Vegas!
  6. Suave kids products are gluten-free. They are inexpensive -- perfect for kids who tend to waste shampoo. Check the label though as ingredients do change.
  7. I suffered a vertebrae fracture three months after my diagnosis in March, 2013. I am 52 so building bone is going to be tough. I take calcium, vit. D, and magnesium, plus I am on hormones. From my research, the bone drugs do a good job, but they build on bad bone --no cleaning of the bone that your body normally does. Next, I walked and walked. Lifted...
  8. It should. Mt hair came in thick again along with my eyebrows when my thyroid stabilized.
  9. Yes, this runs in our family. It affects their hands and a few have what we term "Bobble Head Syndrome". celiac disease runs in our family, but the folks who have it do not shake.
  10. Everyone going into the hospital should: be armed with a device that can access the internet to check all meds and procedures (or access to a friend who does), confirm with your own eyes what is in your chart, talk to the dietician directly, bring in food if possible, and post a big sign stating your insurance and that if they do not accept it, to treat you...
  11. Yep, increasing coconut (yogurts, milk) into my diet (just shredded in cookies occasionally before) did not agree with me at all!
  12. Besides having Hashi's, my only symptom was anemia. I did not have digestive issues. I have been gluten-free for 9 months and my next physical is scheduled this month. My thyroid antibodies were over 2000 (yes, that is right!) and I am curious to see I'd they have come down dramatically. So, do not dismiss celiac disease yet!
  13. First, do not give up hope finding a diagnosis. Many here have taken decades to find the cause of their symptoms. Are you sure you had a complete blood panel? Here is a site from the U of Chicago Celiac center regarding testing: Open Original Shared Link This site has lots of info about celiac disease. Checking your colon will not diagnosis celiac...
  14. Sorry to hear about your glutening and possible flu. I have been away from home for over a week. Luckily, I have not been glutened yet! My extended family cringes when I request to see the head chef. I find that I do better with nicer restaurants, but again it all depends on the food preparers and whether or not they will follow procedures. I usually...
  15. Ugh, healing from celiac disease can take months to several years, especially if you have food intolerances/allergies! My husband is lucky. He can eat everything except chocolate (intolerance) and gluten (no formal diagnosis). I have celiac disease but identified most of my intolerances and allergies long ago. My list includes garlic, milk (allergy...
  16. Have you considered getting a Celiac blood panel? It often helps to get a formal diagnosis (like me). My husband has not been formally tested and has been gluten free for 12 years. He does think that I have received much more support having the diagnosis, plus it may help someone else in our family since celiac disease is genetic. To make the transition...
  17. Xanthan gum has been bothering me, so I have switched to guar gum. It makes it difficult to travel and purchase commercial gluten-free products though. Glad to here that your gum and oat issues have resolved. It gives me hope!
  18. I buy all kinds of brands of canned garbanzo beans and I have never had a gluten reaction.
  19. Sorry to hear about your baking problems. Here are some suggestions: 1. Butter soft enough to be blended but not too soft. I never use shortening ever -- it is not real! I use lard for pie crusts or butter. 2. After mixing chill the dough for at least one hour. This helps everything to blend and bind -- especially for gluten-free doughs. 3. I only...
  20. Can she get tested for celiac?
  21. Merry Christmas! Hubby and I just finished playing Santa. Our family gathering was great. Now for some much needed rest! Morning comes fast on Christmas Day!
  22. Ha! I think the tequila solution is the best (though I would be pouring vodka.....)
  23. I did not bother to look, but feces that are not normal can be a symptom of so many illnesses like celiac, food intolerances, allergies......the list goes on! Be patient, mom (I know that it is so hard to do when your sweet baby is sick!). If she tests negative for celiac disease, ask for allergy testing. In any case, continue to be her advocate. Do...
  24. I do not have gastroparesis, but I think that there have been a few others who have posted in the past. Try doing a search within this forum. It is hard waiting for test results. Assuming your doctor took plenty so samples during your endoscopy, you could start the gluten free diet or enjoy gluten until you get the results ( that is what I did since my...
  25. I have resorted to pressing it in the pie plate. No one was the wiser. Topping? I make them as crumbles. I wish I had a good response. Looking forward to a better solution....
