  1. Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you've been through a lot, and I'm glad that you may have finally found some answers. I also agree with you that IBS is a "easy" diagnosis that should require futher investigation to find the root of the problem. 1. She wants to give me a biopsy now... I don’t see the point, I am not eating gluten. Could this m...
  2. Ooooh, I have some of those! They're so boring and plain that I find them super yummy They might make a really good crust, though, once you put a ton of butter and chocolate and peanut butter all over them.
  3. At my parent's house, my dad has one counter that he uses for gluten foods, one cutting board, one knife. His gluten things are not allowed on the gluten-free side of the kitchen. My dad is also fantastic about wiping up after himself. Even with all the precautions, I still get nervous when I visit. I live alone right now in an entirely gluten-free apartment...
  4. Sounds like things are looking up for you! I'm glad you've found another boy with celiac that your son can meet. That might really help him. If your family doesn't like gluten-free pasta, you should try a different brand. I buy DeBoles brand and anyone I feed it to can't tell the difference. I think it's a pretty common brand since I've found it...
  5. Yes, that will be enough to make you sick. At least you realized your spices have wheat in them now rather than later. I screwed up a lot in the first six months so you're certainly not alone. I agree that it's silly for spices to have gluten in them. Most spices are gluten-free, you must have just gotten unlucky with your brand.
  6. I've been gluten-free for 14 months and I think my glutenings are less severe now. I still get all my old symptoms back but I'm still able to function and live my life. The symptoms can drag on for two weeks, though.
  7. Wal-Mart brand candy corn is gluten-free. [i do want to say that I didn't call and ask, though. The ingredients were all gluten-free and I didn't get sick from them, but you may want to call aout CC]. I have some lists of gluten-free candy that I copied from this site. Here they are: Gluten Free Candy List For Halloween October 2005 Master Foods...
  8. I agree with everyone else that having a gluten-free household would mean that he doesn't have the option to eat anything else and will lessen his feeling "different" than other people. If the gluten food isn't there, he can't eat it. Is the problem that he wants to be "rebellious" and not listen to you or is it that he really doesn't like the gluten-free...
  9. I'll check out knickiknick.com. Seems like I could also use my "failed" crumbling cookie experiments. Unfortunately I've gotten much better at baking and I don't have as many crumbling messes. Here's the gluten recipe. I probably should have thought to post this in the first place. Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars - GLUTEN VERSION 2 Cups Peanut Butter...
  10. Maybe he meant that he's interested to see what the results are. Which would make sense because why would anyone run a test if they didn't care about the result. Happy Birthday, Alivia!
  11. My grandmother recently passed away, so I can't ask her about her diverticulitus diet. As far as I know, I don't think she had a specific diet to help with it, though. I saw someone posted about not eating nuts and I know my Grannie ate those. She would often visit for six weeks at a time and I never once remember making any alterations in what we ate...
  12. I love this grocery store. They stopped selling my favorite black rice bread due to low demand, but if you call them and say you'll buy the whole case (6 loaves) they'll order it special for you. I went here a few days after I went gluten-free and the manager must have noticed me and my mum wandering around confused. He spent a good twenty minutes with...

    ARCHIVED Question

Maalox is NOT gluten-free. I don't know what the gluten-containing ingredient is, but I've got a giant YES/NO list of brands I read about on this message board, and it's in the NO column.
  14. Testing is going to be extremely inaccurate since your son is so young. (Which is a good thing - it means he's too young to have much damage yet). You might want to get the enterolab genetic testing done. If he's got the gene and wheat and oatmeal makes him vomit, I think you have your answer. I don't have any kids, but if I did I don't think I'd be able...
  15. I've been gluten-free for 14 months and although my brain fog is much improved, I do occasionally still get it for no good reason. All of a sudden I'll just draw a giant blank on very simple things. I do, however, suspect other food intolerances so that could be the reason.
  16. I'm glad you were able to make such a fantastic sounding lunch on short notice. Have fun at the harvest fair!
  17. I used to love my Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars. They are the kind with the smashed graham cracker crust mixed with PB, butter and powdered sugar with melted PB and chocloate on top. I'd love to make them again, but I haven't found any good gluten-free graham cracker substitutes. Does anyone have any ideas for what I could use instead? Or any similar gluten...
  18. Thanks for sharing! I just made pumpkin cupcakes last night. I'll probably try these when the cupcakes are gone.
  19. Taking Omega-3 supplements can help, too. From my understanding - your brain needs "good" fats to function but most of us don't get enough good fats so our brain can't work properly. We mostly get Omega-6s. I don't remember the exact statistics, but way back in the day humans used to eat about 50% Omega-3 and 50% Omega-6. Now we eat maybe 5% Omega-3s...
  20. You have a panic attack when your manager puts the meeting sign-in sheet on the table next to the bagels and donuts... And you spend a good five minutes trying to figure out if you should ask a coworker to sign in for you or email your manager to tell him you were there before finally signing the sheet... using your own pen of course and being ever so careful...
  21. If it is the yeast that's a problem, it might not be unusual that you're reacting to it now when you didn't before. Before your body was so overloaded from all the gluten it probably didn't have much left to fight the yeast but now that it's healed the yeast is starting to become the "dominant" food intolerance. I sometimes get random symptoms, too. ...
  22. Yes, you can either be allergic to wheat/gluten or have an intolerance (which I consider the same as celiac, just not as advanced in the damage done to the body). These are two very different reactions in the body. Think about people with peanut allergies (I just pick this because it's so well known). These are often anaphalatic reactions. I have a peanut...
  23. My grandmother also had diverticulitus and I suspect celiac as well. My mother has celiac and this is her mother so tracing the genetics and the symptoms, I'd say my grandmother had celiac. Sorry I can't be of more help. It seems like most people here know someone diagnosed with diverticulitus and undiagnosed celiac.
  24. At the store today I noticed they were selling chlorine-free disposable diapers, so maybe chlorine could be the problem?
  25. You should still go. I go out to lunch with my coworkers all the time and bring my own food. No one cares; they're all just hapy I can make it. The restaurants don't mind either. If they don't let me bring my own food they know we'd have to go somewhere that can accomodate me and they don't want to lose the business of all my friends. It's a little strange...
