  1. We have done Hemp milk.....I think it tastes better than any other milk sub, my kids LOVE this milk. I love it b/c in my opinion it is nutritionally superior to any other milk sub out there. Look up Nature's Harvest hemp milk, and take a look at everything it is fortified with. It has 46% RDA Calcium, Omega 3 & 6's, 4 grams of protein per serving...
  2. Oh how awful.....poor thing. I'll be saying prayers for him too. I'll be giving my kids some extra cuddles today.....sometimes life gets so hectic and chaotic, I take for granted that they'll be here another day. Hearing a story like this just makes me want to savor every moment with them. Keep us updated, I hope the little guy is able to pull...
  3. Just wanted to chime in here.....I also can verify that Rice Dream still has the .002% barley in it, their formula has not changed, they are just legally allowed to claim it is gluten free now. I received an e-mail from them regarding this last week. This just infuriates me to no end. It seems as if we can't even trust the "gluten free" label anymore.
  4. See, I've tried this before. I tried mixing my own flours for baking mixes, and I find it to be the biggest pain in the a$$! It's probably just me, but I figured it up once, and I really didn't save that much money making my own flour mixtures. Not to mention I just hate the actual process of mixing....I never feel like I get it all evenly distributed...
  5. Just thought I'd share this with everyone.....if you haven't tried Quinoa flakes, definately give them a shot. The added perk is that they are CHEAP! I bough a box for $3, and it's lasted two weeks. I've used Quinoa flakes for mock oatmeal cookies before, but this week I used them to make hot cereal. It has a texture similar to grits or cream of wheat...
  6. I don't think it would hurt to go back and get his levels checked.....but if he was negative in the first place, chances are it will be negative again and probably won't tell you much. My 8 year old has had psoriasis since age 3. He's been gluten free for 18 months, and casein free for about 6 months. It has helped some, but hasn't cleared it up by any...
  7. I can relate......my little girl is really sensitive. She has been gluten free (along with our entire house) for over 2 years now, if anything she gets more sensitive with time. I wish I had some words of advice, but the only thing I know to do is just wash their hands as much as possible when out and about. We avoid all the fast food play areas, we...
  8. My daughter's was 124, she was 3 years old at the time. 6 months later, we had it down to a 4....I was pretty happy about our progress! I don't know what stage villous atrophy she had though, our GI just said she had flattened villi. I didn't know there were different stages at the time or I would have asked. She was one sick little puppy.
  9. Thank you for posting this! We have all been on this diet for over two years, but baking still terrifies me. We haven't had actual bread (besides the Kinnikinnick sandwhiches my kids eat) since going on the diet. I seem to mess up even the simplest recipes! But this, I might actually be able to bake this. Thanks again.
  10. I've tried adding variety to my son's meal as well.....but then I finally realized that he didn't want variety! He has a sandwhich every day, and had a sandwhich every day pretty much all of last year, lol. The only thing I change it up with is brown rice tortillas, I'll also get those to make sandwhich rolls. As far as sides go....here are a few of...
  11. Yeah, I need something chewable that has a kid friendly flavor. It seems to be tricky finding something that tastes good, is chewable, but also casein free.
  12. I have some Nature's Way for kids.... when I called regarding their gluten free status, the girl on the phone said "it looks like it's gluten free, I don't see any gluten" So, that's a big NO! What brand of probiotics for your kids do you use? I've also noticed that alot of the kid friendly pro-b's use lactobacillus, which has traces of milk. So, I...
  13. I know what you mean......my daughter does not have an autism diagnosis, but I truly believe it is only b/c she was lucky enough to be diagnosed with Celiac early on. She is still in therapy for speech and language, but she is making fast progress. In going to her therapies, I've come across families with autistic kids, and the diet has come up a few...
  14. Thanks for reporting this......I usually avoid Whole Foods like the plague b/c of the prices! I might give these mixes a shot though. I still have yet to have really good gluten-free/casein free cookies, and I feel like I've tried nearly everything.

    ARCHIVED Good News

Yay! I plan on doing this as well....I work in healthcare now, and I often see the need for a well informed dietician. You would think a hospital dietician (especially at a children's hospital) would have more of a clue, but I've seen mistakes happen quite often. I saw one patient who had "GLUTEN FREE DIET" in big bold print underlined twice on his chart...
  16. I think it is wise to keep her gluten free....it seems to be working, and at this crucial devlopmental stage, priority number one should be to keep her healthy. If you ever decide to put gluten back into her diet for the blood test, I would at least wait until she is past her milestones, and until she is old enough to verbally explain to you how she feels...
  17. Well, add me to the confused list, lol. SO...the new "Organic" Rice dream that says gluten free, still has 20ppm of gluten in it? Nothing actually changed except for their label? That's a bit scary if we can't really trust things that actually say gluten free. I also wanted to mention for people looking for a different milk alternative, you could...
  18. I don't have any recipes right now, but I am cracking up at your title. We eat SO much chicken, and I have yet to tire of it. I can eat small amounts of red meat, but ever since my 3rd child, something changed, and red meat just didn't seem appealing anymore. So it's chicken at least 4 times a week here! I could go down the long list of chicken meals...
  19. Has anyone ever got sick from Pei Wei??? I've always felt pretty safe getting food for my daughter there, but she got really sick last night. I noticed I felt a little funny after eating, so I double checked the ticket (my husband brought it home) and I noticed one of the meals said "NO gluten free" instead of the "gluten free" like the other one said....
  20. 1. How often does your child get glutened? Big glutenings....maybe 1 or 2 a year. 2. How long do symptoms usually last? Vomiting for 2 or 3 hours, then fever, D sometimes (not usually), then fatigue and irritability for two weeks 3. Can you always identify where the gluten came from? The big accidents, I have always known. Like when the church...
  21. Where are you located? I don't know your whole story, but after 4 weeks in the hospital, you should have more answers than that, or at least a solid plan in place. What will your son eat, and what kind of texture food can he tolerate? I could give you some ideas if I had more of an idea of what foods he does eat. Another idea.....do you have access...
  22. I just realized I made it sound like the glutening was why I am pulling her out, lol.....it's not just that, I think it just helped me make my decision. She's been behind for her age, and is starting to catch up. Her dev. Ped told me that she thought K this year was not a good idea, she thought that Emmie would get overwhelmed and wouldn't say a word. ...
  23. It hasn't even been two weeks at public school, and my dd is sick. She is SO sensitive, she seems to get sick just from being near the stuff, lol. I don't think she actually ate anything with gluten, b/c she didn't start throwing up right away. It started a few hours later with a fever first (which is common for her when glutened) then the vomiting, now...
  24. I've had the same dilemma regarding how long to keep my oldest son on the diet. With my younger children, I'm so worried about them reaching their milestones, that putting gluten back into their diet hasn't even crossed my mind. I have found though, that with time, those thoughts have really dissipated. The longer he stayed on the diet, the more severe...
  25. Sex works.......not exactly thrilling when you are 9 months preggo, but totally worth it if it gets some contractions going! Good luck, hope you are holding your baby boy soon!
