ARCHIVED Millet Pillow
LauraTX replied to across's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think you are fine to keep using those. As karen said, buckwheat isn't a concern. If you are concerned with tiny levels of CC on them, I think your solution of washing and refilling it is great! -
ARCHIVED Pancakes& Waffles?
LauraTX replied to Andykat39's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Welcome, Andy! What flour/mix are you using right now? If you frequently shop at Walmart, check out gluten-free Bisquick. I like the pancake recipe, very basic and good. It is also good for making cookies and breading fried stuff. The other two things I always keep in my pantry are King Arthur Flour(KAF) gluten-free Baking mix, and Pamelas gluten... -
Welcome, Jessica. I understand the difficulty of trying to lose weight while on steroids. At the moment I am on prednisone for my lupus, and no matter what I do, I cannot lose weight. I am starting to wean off them but it will take a very long time. There is a point where you just have to focus on survival and put your body insecurities to the side until...

Hi Canuck, I just wanted to add that it is pertinent to take all the medicine for the H Pylori eradication as prescribed, don't stop the antibiotics early. If you choose to do some kind of alternative treatment, let your doctor know. I highly recommend doing the recommended course of meds the doctor prescribed.

I heard somewhere... I don't recall now, some gluten-free blog... but Aldi decided to make the gluten-free items permanent and they will be back near the end of the year, and a few stores in the Northeast will permanently have them starting now.

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
LauraTX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Today for lunch we had hot dogs and oven baked sweet potato fries. Went out for ice cream after. Then for dinner I had worked up a big appetite reorganizing closets, so I made grilled pork tenderloin with Stubbs BBQ seasoning (certified gluten-free and awesome btw) with corn on the cob and green beans. At the grocery store today(well technically yesterday... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bbq In The Southern States
LauraTX replied to jddh's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have seen BBQ places with gluten in the sauce.. a lot of times I have asked if it is soy sauce, and they say yes. I wouldn't put it past them to have malt in the sauce, but it seems soy sauce is more common. Usually it is the crap chain places that has that in their sauce anyways. Dickeys BBQ is a popular chain around here and I don't know why because... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Good On Gluten?
LauraTX replied to dania's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, Dania When I was diagnosed with celiac disease they found it by accident when looking at my gallbladder problems. I currently am what they call a silent Celiac who does not get definite symptoms when gluten is ingested. I did, however, have unexplicable mild anemia which my doctor at the time thought was from menstruation, but it resolved with... -

I have heard it is good, but I still have yet to see it anywhere in North Texas. -

I agree that if it has been a while and it is thoroughly cleaned in between uses you should be fine. Ice cream makers wouldn't be ideal if they had nooks and crannies for things to hide in and not get churned with the rest of the batch. Almost all commercial ice creams are made on shared equipment, since there is no poofy flour factor going on, it is much...

ARCHIVED Wal Mart's gluten-free Good Value Line
LauraTX replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I miss the annies white cheddar sauce, too! I saw the products at walmart this week, I normally don't shop there. Picked up a deluxe shells n cheese and I 100% agree with you, Chocominties. It does make a good amount so if you have a lot of mouths to feed it may be good. -
Glad to hear you finally had a good experience somewhere! Mellow Mushroom is awesome with their gluten-free pizza handling and such. The location by me has great salads and does not have gluteny stuff near the salad station, so I can get a gluten-free salad loaded with veggies and a really good creamy ranch dressing.

I think your comment was a perfect retort and wasn't over the top at all

ARCHIVED Soy- And Gluten-Free Granola/breakfast Bars?

Their Smores bars are so addicting!!! -
As raven said, it is very likely people are putting their crummy gluten hands all over the coffee cups. I would start there.

I don't do well with artificial sweeteners, and I also hate the taste. Splenda tastes so bad to me, in the past before I read labels, if something had it in it, I could tell just by taste. Splenda gives me a bunch of nondescript GI symptoms if I consume it... I have never consumed a lot, though, because of the horrible taste.

Tonight will be black eyed peas with ham and spinach. Have a happy and safe holiday tomorrow, don't drink and drive, and don't hold fireworks in your hand when lighting them. -
ARCHIVED Intolerant Of Cane Sugar And Yeast
LauraTX replied to bluelove's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would very much like to see some links to research supporting all your claims. Natural health websites that try to sell you something "Before the drug companies catch on and charge you more for it" generally don't have much else to go on if they are using that. Also, the "nerdalert" was referring to myself and the information I tend to bestow on unsuspecting... -
ARCHIVED Seronegative; What Should I Tell My Gastroenterologist?
LauraTX replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just tell your GI your acid reflux is really bad lately and you feel like something is going on... upper endoscopy is useful in diagnosing stomach pain. Only if you need leverage, of course. You are not currently eating gluten-free, right? If you feel like the doctor would be receptive to research papers, you can present him/her with some printouts. But... -
ARCHIVED How Can I Thicken My Mac N Cheese Sauce?
LauraTX replied to user001's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the 1:1 proportion. There are probably slight differences in the amount of freed starches each individual flour puts off, so just eyeball it. -
ARCHIVED Intolerant Of Cane Sugar And Yeast
LauraTX replied to bluelove's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Off label is referring to a non-FDA approved use, sorry, nerd alert here. It will have the same effects regardless of package labeling, and it also interacts with antifungal medications in the "azole" family and can be bad for people who don't need to be having extra magnesium in their diet... so just check for interactions with every single drug you take...
