ARCHIVED Enterolab Tests In For Daughter
Nancym replied to sore joints's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Those are some pretty good symptoms. Try the diet you have a lot to gain and nothing to lose. -
ARCHIVED Coughing When Eating...
Nancym replied to super-sally888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, there's an allergic condition called Eosinophilic esophagitis. Here's an article about that, maybe you've got a weird presentation: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Update On Mom Accused Of Msbp
Nancym replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Can you sue that doctor? He sure deserves it! I'm so sorry your daughter has that genetic condition. I think I recall hearing that they can give bone marrow transplants or stem cells or something to treat it, have you heard about that? -
ARCHIVED Gene Information Wanted! Please!
Nancym replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've got DQ8 (celiac) and DQ1 (gluten sensitivity) and I had symptoms of both, I think. The DQ1 seems to be brain related, I'm not sure if intestinal related. I didn't have a biopsy so don't know how bad things were, I suspect they were a little bad. Was the A1 a typo? I thought they only looked at the HLA B genes. -
ARCHIVED Sound Like Celiac To You?
Nancym replied to chocolatelover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The test is a endoscopy for celiac, not a colonoscopy. There are cases of people having negative bloodwork but positive biopsy so if you do decide to go for traditional testing, don't let them put you off on negative bloodwork. Just remember to keep eating the gluten (and lots of it) until you're done testing. And no matter the results, try the diet... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia?
Nancym replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have akylosing spondylitis which exhibits as FM, as is typical for women. Anyway, my rhuemy doctor thoroughly believes the issue starts in the gut and his treatment for me is sulfasalazine (or another drug whose name I forgot) which treats the leaky gut. But he said a lot of his patients have issues with gluten. I must say that I feel vastly better... -
ARCHIVED Coughing When Eating...
Nancym replied to super-sally888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just found out that a chronic bronchial cough is one of the symptoms of an autoimmune disease I have and wonder if that is what afflicted my Mom for so many years. Oh well, hard to say. But there is a link between celiac and pulmonary issues, someone just posted a list on another message forum. Open Original Shared Link Another thing to think of... -
I think eating chocolate can be a healthy thing to do if you eat the dark chocolate where sugar isn't the first ingredient on the list. I have a square or two every day, I'm eating Lindt 85% now.

ARCHIVED Some Urgent Questions.. Please Help
Nancym replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It helped me to start looking at gluten foods as poisonous. Then it didn't become a matter of will-power, it was more like survival. Replace "I can't have that" with "That will poison me" and I think it is easier. -
ARCHIVED Gas, Gas, Gas - Is This Celiac's?
Nancym replied to laglut's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was a big symptom for me. Now that I'm gluten-free and CF I rarely toot and when I do it doesn't smell like something crawled up there and died two weeks ago. -
ARCHIVED Can My Symtoms Be Celiac Related?
Nancym replied to LLfrom Texas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Even if you don't have celiac disease, you could have gluten sensitivity. Probably best to get tested for celiac but even if you don't have positive results, give the diet a good solid try. You might be surprised how great you'll feel! -
Well, I have had to battle a few autoimmune diseases so staying healthy is near and dear to my heart. First I make sure I get enough Vit. D. Low levels of D3 seems to be implicated in a LOT of illness, from flu to cancer and heart disease. This site has a lot of info: Open Original Shared Link. Right now I'm taking 4000 iu of oily D3 and intend to get...

ARCHIVED Are There Any Good Ricecakes Out There?
Nancym replied to darlindeb25's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've gotten some at Trader Joe's that were TOO good, I could eat a whole bag almost in one sitting. They've got added salt and a kind of buttery flavor. They didn't taste like drywall, which is what I always thought rice cakes pretty much tasted like. -
ARCHIVED I'm Seeing The Gi Today For The First Time And I'm Petrified
Nancym replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well cool, if you're doing the bookkeeping anyway you might as well take the deduction! I still have nightmares of preparing my taxes when I was self-employed. -
ARCHIVED The Girl Who Cried "not Glutened"
Nancym replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree, confess to the problem. Its the only way they'll really understand how serious it is. -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Depression And Celiac...
Nancym replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, yeah there is that whole peptide thing but then there's also direct damage to the brain. Who knows what else is going on! I think medical science is really in its infancy about this issue. -
ARCHIVED Everything Comes Down To Poo
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
"Do you have a hemmorroid, or is it rectal cancer? When you flush your dukie down you flush away the answer!" -
hmmm... I wonder if a good lawyer could help you out with this? You might be able to get some of the research from Pub Med or hire an expert witness of your own. But you'd be going up against mainstream medicine and its like trying to move a mountain.

ARCHIVED I'm Seeing The Gi Today For The First Time And I'm Petrified
Nancym replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just for the record, you have to have expenses that are greater than 7.5% of your AGI and you can only deduct the difference between the gluten-free food and the non-gluten-free food you would have eaten. The amount of bookkeeping to actually take the deduction, for probably the amount of return, is absurd. -
I think this should be Enterolab's theme song. Its a song from the show Scrubs about... stool samples. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Weight Gain Gluten Free And Ulcerative Colitis
Nancym replied to KIRK's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Try using coconut milk instead of milk. It seems like it should be pretty tasty in shakes and it is loaded with wonderful coconut oil. -
Unless you get really crazy with the magnesium you should be fine. Usually your body will let you know by giving you lots of diarrhea if you get too much.

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Have A "reaction"
Nancym replied to Piesmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Even if you don't have a noticable reaction it can still be doing silent, insidious damage to you that won't show up until years later in the form of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, lymphoma and other cancers, MS... the list goes on and on. You really don't want to tempt fate. -
ARCHIVED Retested After 29 Years- ? About Tests- Please Help
Nancym replied to kbkbab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I think once you get healed it can take years of full time gluten eating to get back to the serious damage they can detect with an endoscopy or blood tests. Meanwhile, what if you are and eating wheat causes enough damage that you're not getting as much nutrition as you need, especially while pregnant? A gluten free diet never hurt anyone... if...
