What an amazing story! I tell you, I should write a book about the misdiagnosed people out there.

ARCHIVED Why Go Through Endoscopy?
Nancym replied to radman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the reason is because the diagnostic tests are too archaic. They're not catching the people before the disease has progressed to a severe point. The dietary test, if you've got GI symptoms, is too difficult or theyr'e too addicted to grains, for people to really do. Its like asking someone to give up cigarettes for a couple of weeks to see... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Nancym replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, here's the interesting thing about that, Dr. Fine's stool tests finds antibodies to gluten in the intestines long, long after you've last consumed it. So what sort of long term damage does having an immune response going off periodically do to your body? Since gluten sensitivity is linked to a lot of autoimmune diseases... (I have a couple of them... -
ARCHIVED Why Go Through Endoscopy?
Nancym replied to radman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you can get the best treatment by finding the doctor with the same diseases that you have. -
ARCHIVED I Am So Confused :(
Nancym replied to Laura--G's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hopefully it is just the gluten causing his bones to hurt but if you put him on a gluten-free diet and they still hurt, mention it to your Pediatrician and have him checked for ankylosing spondylitis. It causes joints to fuse, starts in the spine. Boys get it worse and more often than females. It is good to get an early diagnosis so you can start treatment... -
ARCHIVED Problems W/friends And Family
Nancym replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know, I think the problem is a lack of support for people. If you don't have the internet resources of even a support group, you're so alone with this disease. Nothing helps like being able to talk over these issues and have other people help ground you in reality of dealing with the diet and social issues. My first thought when I get diagnosed... -
You could make your own almond milk if you can tolerate nuts. There's a ton of recipes on the Internet just search for "nut milk recipe" and you should be able to find them. They're really easy to make too.

ARCHIVED Omg - Could I Have Lupus?
Nancym replied to jnclelland's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a drug induced Lupus too, so perhaps you were reacting to a drug you were taking? Talk to your doctor, he'll probably order a few tests. Do you have other symptoms? I thought I had Lupus too, turned out I had a different autoimmune disease. :\ -
So if you have a reaction to it... the implications are frightening! Oops, sorry for the irreverence.

ARCHIVED To All Of You Who Are Still Sick Despite Being gluten-free
Nancym replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I like the SCD diet on many levels, but my understanding of gluten sensitivity is that we lack the enzyme need to digest certain proteins. I don't think any diet can make you create what you don't have. -
ARCHIVED Help In Decifering Test Results
Nancym replied to kempy99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Its my opinion that the best way to support your son is for your entire family to adopt a gluten-free/dairy free diet. You might be surprised at how much better you feel as well! Oats are controverial for celiacs. Most oats are at high risk of cross contamination with wheat or other grains due to the way they're raised and stored and processed. ... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Result
Nancym replied to gabby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your intestines were badly damaged it might take awhile for them to heal up. I have no idea how long it takes. Also, I wonder if perhaps there might be more things you're sensitive to, eggs, soy, nuts? -
ARCHIVED Dismissed By Doctor
Nancym replied to megsylvan2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're probably wasting your time with another endoscopy if you're already off the gluten. Why not just get a diagnosis from Enterolab.com? They can test you for other sensitivities too. -
ARCHIVED Whether To Pursue Diagnosis
Nancym replied to indigoani's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're gluten free it is too late for an "official" diagnosis because you have to have been eating gluten all along to have any shot at all as showing up celiac... unless you use enterolab.com. What I did was just give it up and noted how much better I did. Then I did the enterolab testing, got told about my casein intolerance, gave it up too. I... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
Nancym replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm fasting to help my other disease, ankylosing spondylitis. Just drinking tea, coffee and water. It is sort of related because it may be due to a bad gut bacteria and leaky gut which feeds on starch. I'm waiting for my tummy to go down too. I think I might also have either colitis or Crohn's disease, which goes along with this diagnosis. But any time... -
ARCHIVED We Had A Scope And Biopsy....now What?
Nancym replied to crstnol's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just a suggestion but until you identify exactly what she is sensitive to, can you keep her on a very simple diet of fruits, veggies and meats? I'd avoid all grains and beans and nuts and dairy, including soy, rice and corn. I think a lot of us are sensitive to mulitple things and it takes a really minimalistic diet to eliminate them all, at first. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
Nancym replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I bloat up it is a sign I've eaten something that is disagreeing with me. I don't know any other way of getting rid of it other than waiting it out and figuring out the culprit. Even though I've been fasting for 18 hours, I've got a lot of bloating still from the macadamia nuts I had been eating. :\ -
ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
Nancym replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just wanted to mention a cookbook that would fit in really nicely with this diet. I just got mine yesterday. It is called "The Garden of Eating". The inspiration for the diet is the paleo type diet which means no grains or sugar or dairy. The only exception I see is there are some recipes that include potatoes and sweet potatoes, which wouldn't be allowed... -
ARCHIVED Doctors Vs. Pharmaceutical Companies
Nancym replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Doctors
With something like potentially 30% of the population being suspectible to food intolerances to wheat... I'm thinking maybe the human race took a wrong turn a few thousand years ago when it got addicted to gluey grains. In my fantasy I'd like to see it acknowledged that eating wheat is unhealthy and see the human race change its collective diet back to pre... -
ARCHIVED How Do U Know U Have An Intolerance?
Nancym replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Everyone is different and has different symptoms. I'd suggest excluding foods you think you're intolerant to, go on a simple, basic diet, then add those foods in gradually and take note of how you feel. -
ARCHIVED Really Need A Supoort System
Nancym replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately untreated celiac disease leads to other autoimmune conditions quite often. Glad you're following the diet! I suggest finding a local celiac patient group and go to meetings. I haven't done that yet but I just got a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease and I have gone to one of their meetings. They're people you can learn from where to eat... -
Dairy was pretty hard, but not impossible. I've always been a cream-in-coffee drinker and it took me a few weeks to adjust to black coffee. But now it tastes fine to me. I miss cheese the most I suppose, but I just changed my eating 100%. Instead of cereal, I have very yummy sausages I can microwave to heat up. Or eggs. I eat fruit instead of dairy...

ARCHIVED Why Go Through Endoscopy?
Nancym replied to radman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I often felt the same way! If diet does the trick, that seems like a pretty clear diagnosis. I wonder how much of the diagnosis of IBS is actually a food intolerance? I diagnosed myself with diet, within 2 days I was like you, my GI tract was well behaved and quiet. But I decided to have followup testing done at Enterolab.com simply because I was... -
I started feeding my cat raw meats and he has finally stopped vomiting! He always vomited, even when I found all-meat cans of food in the grocery store, he'd vomit that too. It is more expensive but my puddy tat is so wort it.

Amen sister! My Mom's doctor is that way. I suggested that anti deppressants were not appropriate for my Mom because of her heart condition and the recent study that showed patients with cardiac problems died a lot more when they were taking AD's. She had no clue, absolutely no clue! She said, "Oh no. They're perfectly safe! We've been prescribing them...
