Hiya @LabLynnie My sympathies, this is such a thing for us coeliacs. Mine tend to be the aura variety these days but occasionally I still get the strangest migraine where I feel quite nauseous with generalised pain at the back of my neck, and light sensitivity. I've come to the conclusion that that type really responds well to lying down, if...

Seems like I can't tolerate any sort of PPIcristiana replied to BeccaBees's topic in Super Sensitive People I think getting your own pans may help. Good idea. It is great you are having an endoscopy as you should get some answers then. If it isn't gluten a problem like a hiatal hernia could be causing the issues, quite a common issue. Do keep us posted.

CELIAC DISEASE AND POLYCYTHEMA VERAcristiana replied to SamIPD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders @Sledwards I wouldn't worry unduly if the numbers are only slight, and don't keep rising - some people run at higher levels. Good to run past your doctor but as plumbago says, it could just be that you were dehydrated. @plumbago I think this topic was started by someone trying to find an association between polycythemia vera and celiac disease....

Seems like I can't tolerate any sort of PPIcristiana replied to BeccaBees's topic in Super Sensitive People Hello Becca and welcome to the forum It sounds like you have done the right thing to come off your PPI if it is causing tingling in your mouth. I have a dear friend who struggles with chronic gastritis and also the PPIs she's been prescribed over the years to combat it. Eventually she found relief with Ranitidine, a different class of drug, which...

Hello there. I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering from these headaches, the throbbing type are horrible. Just one other thought - might be worth doing a food diary in case anything new that you have added to your diet as a substitute, such as gluten free bread for normal bread, contains an ingredient which is causing these headaches. Reading your...

Celiac Sprue, Or Latex Allergy?cristiana replied to michelleL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Hello @Dionysus and welcome to the Forum. I am so sorry to hear about all your issues. When you say you have seen a lot of specialists in the past, did that ever include a gastroenterologist or any other specialist who has run a coeliac panel, which would include these important blood tests: Total immunoglobulin A (IgA) IgA Tissue...

Shingrix Vaccine for UK Coeliacs?cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders @icelandgirl It will be interesting to see what the booster is like! Mine is in February so I'll beat you to it and will report back! @Scott Adams I agree, my experience of it is a burning pain along the lines of bad sunburn which interestingly sometimes comes back from time to time. I had it yesterday. Do you ever find it comes back, too?

Accidental Glutening and Mental Health Symptoms?cristiana replied to RiskAssessed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I ought to point out that many people find sensitivity does worsen, this isn't always the case. I have one acquaintance who never reacts and another whose brother was diagnosed with coeliac disease and for whatever reason now no longer reacts in an obvious way to gluten, so has gone back to eating it. However, this is not a good idea. Whether you can see...

Accidental Glutening and Mental Health Symptoms?cristiana replied to RiskAssessed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Vent away, @Roberta RabbitMum, and welcome to the forum! It is always good to hear the experiences of others. but I'm sorry you've had another bout of anxiety. The problem with coeliac disease is it seems to have so many manifestations, it is so easy for the medical community to misdiagnose. It is one of those diseases that has been called, "the...

Accidental Glutening and Mental Health Symptoms?cristiana replied to RiskAssessed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Good morning Risk Assessed and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this but rest assured that you are not alone. Just one quick search of this forum has turned up this thread and others: Anxiety can arise following a glutening purely of itself, and/or perhaps, as in my case, another type can arise - a fear of what symptoms...

Bloods positive, no symptomscristiana replied to OhDeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Poor you, @trents, that sounds really tough. I am glad you have found something that helps you. Interesting, @RMJ Thanks for the tip, @knitty kitty. I never really thought about migraines being caused by deficiencies before.

Shingrix Vaccine for UK Coeliacs?cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I didn't realise you had had shingles, Scott. Some years ago someone posted on this forum ( @Mimsy) that they had had repeated bouts of shingles as a child. I wonder if coeliacs are more prone to it? My first two suspected episodes did not have the accompanying rash (therefore it could have been zoster sine herpete) but during a third bout my doctor...

Bloods positive, no symptomscristiana replied to OhDeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Also re: migraines, oddly, although the painful ones left me I still get auras which affect my vision for about 15 mins, sometimes less, but I'll settle for those instead of the painful ones.

Bloods positive, no symptomscristiana replied to OhDeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hello @OhDeer and Welcome to the Forum The diagnostic journey varies enormously, depending on where you live. In my own case, and I am posting from England, from memory I think I got the positive blood test results back in March and then had a biopsy in May. However, this was over ten years ago and pre-COVID, and waiting lists in gastroenterology may...

Just to let UK Coeliacs know that today I was given part one of the two part Shingrix Vaccine and was told it was because I was a coeliac. I am in my mid-fifties, had I not had coeliac disease I would have had to wait until I was 65. I wondered if any other UK coeliacs reading this have been offered Shingrix? I cannot say whether this is now standard...

You are more than welcome - happy reading! But without wanting to sound biased, as I am a Mod, I think this website was just as helpful, if not moreso, so stick around! 😉

I bought a book called "Celiac Disease for Dummies" when I was first diagnosed. Found it very helpful. We're going back ten years now, so I expect it's been revised since then. I'm in the UK - but pretty sure the authors were Americans. Sometimes celiacs suffer from Anxiety and/or Depression at the time of diagnosis. I did and found The Depression...

Sorry - we say this in the UK, put food into a blender, or put a hand held blender into food, to make a puree. Probably an new application of a word we used a lot in WWII, although I wasn't there at the time!😄 I am sorry as I am short of time so I can't read this thread properly, @Always-Hungry-Kate. But certain foods affected me around the time I ...

I have had bouts of nausea when I have accidentally ingested gluten, and when I was first diagnosed. It was pretty miserable at first. I've since concluded that gastritis-like symptoms related to gluten is an issue for me. Worth looking into the symptoms and if you think it could be an issue for, look up some of the gastritis threads in this forum. ...

"Patients with iron deficiency anemia - Affects approximately 1 in 31 celiac disease patients" When I asked a doctor recently if my father could be tested, I was told, words to the effect, 'no point' as he was not iron anaemic it was unlikely he had coeliac disease. But this study would seem to indicate otherwise. However, I am truly astounded...

Transitioning to a gluten-free restocristiana replied to koreanresto's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants Congratulations @koreanresto on this venture, I wish you every success. I am from the UK. In this country, as a result of some tragic cases where a number of people have been taken ill or worse due to nut and sesame allergies, food standard regulations regarding the preparation of food have tightened up significantly to protect the customer. ...

Recovery from stomach bug with Celiaccristiana replied to Msteele's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I once took 2 weeks to recover from an episode of diarrhea caused I think by food poisoning before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. It was during my first pregnancy, around the time when I was beginning to get all sorts of strange symptoms which I now attribute to coeliac disease, such as mouth ulcers and aura migraines. Quite often, even now...

Could this be celiac?cristiana replied to Fsmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Definitely try your utmost with the NHS, even if it means asking to see another GP within the practice for a second opinion if needs be. There are huge benefits in this country from obtaining a proper NHS diagnosis. I wish you all the very best. Do come back to us if you have any questions.

Could this be celiac?cristiana replied to Fsmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You may be pleasantly surprised. Through a GP brother-in-law I've been made aware that in recent years there has been a real drive to educate health professionals,. The "Think Coeliac!" is one initiative that comes to mind - have a google and see the material that has been put together expressly to inform medical professionals. Coeliac disease affects...

Could this be celiac?cristiana replied to Fsmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hello @Fsmith and welcome to the forum I think you are very wise to consider the possibility of coeliac disease. Often people think coeliac disease = diarrhea, but in fact for some people the opposite is the case and constipation is an issue. The symptoms you mention there could certainly point to coeliac disease. Definitely approach your GP...
