  1. When I was a teenager I suffered from a lot of migraines which left me with a headache, light sensitivity and very nauseous. I found certain light conditions triggered and exacerbated the issue, particularly strip lighting, and sun shining through a window in a stuffy classroom. Since going gluten free I've had a type of migraine from time to time...
  2. Yes, the only major glutening episode I've had in recent years resulted in chills and vomiting two hours after eating. I was so surprised, I hadn't been that sick since I was a child. When I first went gluten free I just got diarrhea and a sore stomach after a substantial glutening. It seems the reaction is far worse now.
  3. Hello @whaleroad - I'm from the UK, and a fellow crumpet-eater! (You will be glad to know if you do ever have to go gluten free, Warburtons make some delicious gluten free crumpets, and I actually prefer them to the normal ones!) I think you need to see what your results are. It could be that despite your gluten avoidance your results are still positive...
  4. Just chiming into say I think mine took 8 years to get down to normal levels from memory. I tried so hard to get my numbers down, I rarely ate out, never cheated etc. I did make the odd mistake along the way but I think in my own case cross contamination at home must have been happening. I share the house with gluten eaters and we had a very suspect...
  5. Tanja... it's now just gone eight in the morning here in the UK so I thought I'd check in. Do get the book - if you can't get it at the library, I'd say it's worth getting it online or from your local bookshop. A relative of mine is a GP and has a background in psychology and thinks it is fantastic. It has helped me, and I've given it to others, and...
  6. Hi Tanja Definitely keep an eye out for changes in BMs and see a doctor if they persist, but it does sound likely that you can blame the blueberries on this occasion.😊 Just rereading your questions, yes, that hard area I have (the trapped fatty tissue) is always there, but I am only really aware of it, as I say, when I am putting on weight - th...
  7. Perhaps rapid transit time is the reason you are having this at the moment and haven't experienced it before. The amount of time food takes to pass through the gut can make a big difference to the appearance of a stool. Anxiety is a common reason why food passes too fast through the gut too quickly, food intolerance and glutening, a stomach virus too. ...
  8. Hi Tanja In answer to your question, on occasion I have pain around the trapped fatty tissue but only rarely - tends to be if I start putting on weight! It's normally the way I know I have to cut back! I don't know the answer to your last question - hopefully someone else will be able to help. Hugs Cristiana
  9. Hi Acacia There are so many questions I have, about oats, ten years in from adopting a gluten-free diet, that are still unanswered. It took me several years before I could consume them again, and although they don't appear to affect my TTG numbers, they can still make me feel uncomfortable if I eat too many. I would say it would be worth trying...
  10. Hi Tanja Congratulations on the birth of your baby! How old? I echo @trents advice, and @RMJ's thoughts. It is so tough that you have to cope with these concerns, so soon after having a baby which can be a challenging time for a new mum at the best of times. Thoughts: I wonder the lumps might turn out to be lipomas, which are benign...
  11. Thanks for posting this, Jefferson. I have been wondering if he was a coeliac for some time, there has been a lot of talk about it.
  12. You are welcome, Allegria. Should your blood tests come back negative it is worth remembering that a very small number of coeliacs test negative in blood tests, so if you have ongoing symptoms your gastroenterologist may wish to conduct an endoscopy just to be sure. The two other main reasons for a negative test could be insufficient consumption of...
  13. Sorry - I meant to add, is your doctor going to be sending you for more tests? If so, do make sure you are consuming at least 2 slices of glutenous bread or the equivalent per day for 6-8 weeks prior to your blood test, for the coeliac antibodies to show in your blood.
  14. Hello Allegria and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you have these ongoing symptoms. You have a good doctor: Yes, absolutely, coeliac disease can develop in that time. By way of an illustration, my nephew is type 1 diabetic and has to be tested for coeliac disease every three years here in the UK, as part of his ongoing care, as according...
  15. Hi Chillycat. My symptoms were pretty similar to yours, except I also had terrible anxiety, and was very anaemic.
  16. Hello Ginger38 I am sorry you have had such a rough ride of things. I have had similar experiences, such as, the time was taking an iron supplement that wasn't gluten free (I mistook Floradix for Floravital) a trip to France where I found the labelling very lax (it may have changed more recently) and I felt dreadful. Had a TTG test...
  17. Welcome @louai1920 I think it is brilliant that you have been able to achieve so much i.e. five years of medical school under so much pressure, well done. Like Scott, I think the hybrid solution makes the most sense of all. It must be difficult always having to cook food from scratch, with no gluten free pre-prepared food available. I have stayed...
  18. I think seeking medical advice is very important if things continue much longer. In the meantime, keep hydrated and rest as much as you can. I am turning in soon, it's 9.30 pm here in the UK so things will go quiet from me now. Take care, and hope things improve soon.
  19. I am sorry - I live in the UK so I don't know what services exist in Florida. If I was in your situation and was worried, here I'd be inclined, on a Sunday, to ring an out of hours medical line, it's called 111. Or if I was really worried take myself to Accident and Emergency at my local hospital. Is there any sort of out of hours service you can...
  20. A pleasure. You may not have the same issue, but there is one symptom that I find follows on from a glutening - I get a burning sensation in my stomach for a few days. If this happens to you, what I do is try to follow a gastritis/reflux diet for a while, avoiding spicy and fatty food, acid fruit, alcohol and caffeine. Small regular meals are helpful...
  21. I'm so sorry to hear this. I'd say drink lots of water, and get as much rest as you can. Someone on this forum once advised me to keep eating, they felt it helped move things along faster, and I would agree with that. If the diarrhea continues for a while, you may wish to get some gluten free rehydration salts to replace salts and sugars lost...
  22. This is so interesting, thanks for sharing.
  23. Hi @momashes Have you ever measured your BMI? If so, how does it compare now with what it was before you put on this weight? Cristiana
  24. Just a hunch, but perhaps because you are eating less/skipping meals, your stomach will still be making the acid it normally makes, and the accumulated excess acid, which isn't being used for digestion, might be causing these symptoms? Try to not skip meals and perhaps in the short term look into adopting a reflux or gastritis diet, avoiding spicy,...
  25. This is very true, and it happened to me. When first diagnosed dairy = diarrhea. I couldn't even tolerate lactose free milk. Now I drink normal milk and eat yoghurt and only if I have too much will it cause issues. Some coeliacs do have problems with all manner of dairy while they are healing, but I noticed hard cheese like Cheddar wasn't a problem...
