ARCHIVED Anemia And Celiac
cristiana replied to MariandMe's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mari&me - in response to your B12 question, again, that is something that can be assessed with a specific B12 blood test. My B12 was low on Dx, but I think I have a continuing problem as I get prolonged pins and needles and I start taking B12 sublinguals with large doses and this really seems to help. Reading mrsrag's comment about gluten-free oatmeal... -

ARCHIVED Anemia And Celiac
cristiana replied to MariandMe's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the Forum. When I was first found to be anemic it was blamed on the usual women's issues rather than celiac disease. How old is your daughter? Did your doctor actually provide the latest iron and B12 readings from the lab - wondered if you could share them? -
ARCHIVED Pale / Light Yellow Stools
cristiana replied to Brit1612's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry as I haven't got the time to read your previous posts just now but I am wondering if your son has a dairy intolerance? I think I read somewhere that that can cause pale, yellow stools. Worth discussing with your doctor. -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Your Neuro Symptoms Last After Glutening?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Colleen - and I thought you were winking at me! Haha! Just out of interest, neural symptoms... aside Ataxia, which is a whole subject on its own, and vitamin/mineral deficiencies, why do we get neuro symptoms? Does the gluten actually cause demyelination or inflammation or what? Just wondering if anyone knows? -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Your Neuro Symptoms Last After Glutening?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Colleen...I',m very interested in what you are saying. Around the time of my DX I had what felt like twitching in my face. I was stressed at that time and suffering from all sorts of deficiencies, including iron. A close relative actually suffers from a twitch in his left eye area which sometimes causes one side of his face to contort. He is... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Your Neuro Symptoms Last After Glutening?
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks CarC - that is interesting and I think would tie in. Colleen - I have no excuse, really, as I have (since recovery) put on ten pounds so should be cutting back. Next time I shall use that excuse rather than the, "Are you sure that is a gluten free biscuit?" - as we call cookies in the UK- as my reason not to eat it. It did taste nice though...... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do Your Neuro Symptoms Last After Glutening?
cristiana posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I must accept that two years after giving up gluten some of my tingles and buzzes are here to stay. However, someone offered me a gluten free cookie the other day which was, alas, nothing of the sort. About two days latter my face was twitching and buzzing. Now it feels stiff but now my tongue feels slightly tingly. Does anyone know how long... -
ARCHIVED Flaxseed Oil
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Colleen! In the UK we use an oil derived from the linseed plant for conditioning cricket bats, our national 'bat and ball' game. Perhaps it should be better reserved for something along those lines... -
ARCHIVED Flaxseed Oil
cristiana posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone here use Flaxseed Oil? In my search for good oils to help my buzzing nerves I thought I would give some a try. However, I had some this afternoon and whether it was related to a delayed reaction to glutening a week ago or just because it or something else disagreed with my I now have stomach ache. Should we seek out gluten-free Flaxseed Oil... -

Colleen - thanks so much for thinking to post this here. It is very helpful. -
ARCHIVED Iron Tablets & Medication
cristiana replied to CurrantCottage's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi CurrantCottage Love your user name! Just to say that I was taking iron tablets prescribed by my GP when I was referred to my BUPA gastroenterologist as I was recovering from iron anemia - and he (the gastroenterologist) told me post diagnosis to keep taking them, too. I was taking something called ferrous gluconate. Do check with your GP... -
ARCHIVED Abdominal Pain That Hurts When I Walk?
cristiana replied to beadgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had some pain, in the groin area and a bit further up, I think where you are referring to, but on the left side. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound scan just to check ovaries etc - all OK. I mentioned to the doctor who did the scan that the pain seemed worse when I moved. She thought it might be mechanical. I am going to put this past my gastroenteroligist... -
ARCHIVED Longer Term Recovery - Neuro Setbacks
cristiana replied to cristiana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Colleen - thank you so much for that reply, I find it v. reassuring. Looking back the latest stuff came along with some stressful hospital tests, a new job and a nasty virus. You have really helped me. xx -
ARCHIVED Longer Term Recovery - Neuro Setbacks
cristiana posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This quesiton is for anyone who has recovered from neurological symptoms. I often read on celiac posts online that neuro symptoms are often the last to clear up. I am trying my hardest to stay clear of gluten but the neuro problems persist, two years gluten-free. They almost seem to disappear, then start off again. Same things - buzzy ankle, tingling... -
ARCHIVED Wish Me Luck With The Doctor
cristiana replied to nvsmom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My cousin has just been telling me how helpful Pilates has been. When I was having some work on my hips and neck my physio said I needed to do it - to do with core strength or something - but I am afraid I still haven't booked onto a course. But my cousin put another light on it for me - she is a farmer and is always hauling heavy weights about. But how... -
ARCHIVED Differential Diagnosis
cristiana replied to dancingmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My own nutritionalist actually saw someone who had been told she had MS and, being a very well-read and informed nutritionalist, just happened to ask this lady if she had been tested for celiac disease. Apparently she hadn't - and guess what, it was celiac disease all along! In the last decade or so have had four MRI brain scans but they have all been... -
ARCHIVED Joint/muscle Pain
cristiana replied to dancingmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and welcome to the forum. I think, knowing what I now know about celiac disease, I would probably go for the testing. Some of your symptoms sound rather like mine. I had anxiety, brain fog, joint pain (althought mainly around the sacrolilac joint) muscle twitching (and for me eye twitching) and headaches of all varieties. I also had had... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Mental Disorientation And/or Vertigo?
cristiana replied to StClair's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
First aura migraine I ever had, whilst expecting my first child, I could hardly speak, and my hands felt like they weren't mine. Very disorientating. I thought I was having a stroke too. MRI scans showed nothing of concern. This was preceded a few months before with a mouthful of awful ulcers (which now I totally attribute to being a celiac). There were... -
Unfortunately due to senior moment syndrome I am not sure where I found it.... but 2013 sounds strangely familiar! I have been watering down my coffee significantly recently as it does seem to aggravate what I hope is the last of my gluten related tingles. I had a large cup when severely dehydrated the other day and my cheek felt like there was an electrical...

Thanks for explaining this as I have just read the same research that Zebra shared and I was wondering, too. I had some problems on holiday and think it was due to the fact that the coffee from the vending machines must have been dispensed from the same nozzle as the hot chocolate, which I suspect had a wheat thickener in it.

ARCHIVED Generalized Inflammation As A Symptom? (Plus, My Story)
cristiana replied to dopaminegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for posting this. It would be interesting to see what it looks like now, as you say. I think your doctor didn't do the exact same tests as my own, so I can't compare those readings with my own, but hopefully someone who knows about these particular tests might chime in.- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Generalized Inflammation As A Symptom? (Plus, My Story)
cristiana replied to dopaminegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definitely. When you get a breakdown of your Liver Enzyme Tests you may see the words albumin and globulin. Human blood contains blood protein - albumin and globulin. As I understand it if globulin is above normal levels it might indicate chronic inflammation in an auto-immune condition or can simply be a response to an infection. If either of these...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Generalized Inflammation As A Symptom? (Plus, My Story)
cristiana replied to dopaminegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the Forum. Did your doctor say what level was high to indicate inflammation? In my case it was elevated globulin levels which I think is a pretty odd presentation for celiacs, but my gastroenterologist said it was unusual but it did happen. At the time my obvious symptoms were anxiety and anemia. I had suffered from migraines for years...- 7 replies

New To This! Any Celiacs/gluten Free In Uk?
cristiana replied to Emma-jane88's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome to the Forum, Emma! I, too, am British - and there are several of us that use and contribute to this site, although you will notice most contributors are from the States, so I tend to drop the mystery 'o' in the British spelling of Coeliac when I type (and after all this time I am not sure why we include it!) Are you a member of Coeliac...
